What's the beef with MK?

Imagine a bell curve. Bottom tiers on the left, mid tiers in the middle (obviously), and top tiers on the right. For a balanced game, that bell curve should have a pretty fat middle section and be very slim on the sides. In other words, very few top tier characters and very few bottom tier characters. That’s balance.

Don’t get me wrong. Like I said, I played the shit out of UMK3, and I can still play a pretty good Human Smoke. I’m not trying to bash it. But claiming that it’s more balanced than any SF game is a bit rash.

MKT is along the lines of MvC2 in the sense it’s not a broken game by design, but there are broken characters added to an existing roster that other than a few annoying top tiers, is a very playable game for most of the roster, although I would argue that the assist system in MvC2 is broke as a joke. Also there are some things that were tweaked about other characters that had they not been, would be able to compete with the God Tier a little more. As for Noob, he is as far away from Kabal as Kabal is from anyone under #10. Noob’s Disabler must be treated like Kabal’s spin when defending, except Noob can be very far away and it’s still a threat, on top of that, his recovery is so fast from it and the start is instantaneous. It’s a monsterous move that sets up infinites, plus his combos set up his infinites, and aaHP sets up his infinite, etc.

Kabal’s relaunch combo, which can be done by several other characters as well, requires very specific, practically just frames timing, while Noob’s infinites are incredibly easy to perform, on top of that Noob can also do relaunch combos. Even worse, Kabal can’t relaunch every character anyway. Noob never has to do the relaunch combos because anytime they are available, an easier infinite is available.

UMK3 is far from broke as hell. There are a few broken elements here and there that are not easy to abuse, but they are there. There are very few infinites as well. I can think of a lot of 2D fighters I’ve played that are far more broken than UMK3.

MK yes, UMK3 is not MK. lol

MKII is not a good game, and MK didn’t decline after MKII by any stretch of the imagination. If you think it did, then you are no better than the casual MK fans who only like the violence and can’t see that there’s gameplay offered in UMK3.

Since UMK3 gets the most, albeit very little still, respect you might want to head over to ultimatemk to talk about the games because most players here don’t know what they are talking about, or just relay info from our site. Expalin why SF2 is deep by the way, I see SF2 as the franchise equivalent to MKII. Turtlefest 2 character God Tier fireball anti air fest. If you get a chance to break through and combo, the options are limited, big damage is easy. That’s not very deep, I mean…you can’t even dash yet in either game. Yeah I played SF2, a lot.

He’s not 100% unbeatable even in the hands of the best players though, so that’s not God tier, I always like showing these matches as examples of harsh Kabal rushdown vs a character several ranks lower:

Kabal vs Reptile - http://youtube.com/results?search_query=ewashock+bill&search=Search

As for tiers, there are high level players who go as far as to say Human Smoke is better than Kabal, also, a good Kung Lao can be unbeliable.

Top Tier:

  1. Kabal
  2. Human Smoke
  3. Kung Lao

Mid Tier:

  1. Kano
  2. Reptile
  3. Ermac
  4. Nightwolf
  5. Robo Smoke
  6. Sindel
  7. Jax
  8. Sonya
  9. Kitana
  10. Stryker
  11. Scorpion
  12. Unmasked Sub-Zero
  13. Jade
  14. Liu Kang
  15. Sektor

Bottom Tier:

  1. Classic Sub-Zero
  2. Cyrax
  3. Shang Tsung
  4. Mileena
  5. Sheeva

Boy do you suck for posting at all.

Not only that, but the players who have tiered MK games also have experience in other games and that’s important when recognizing strengths and weaknesses in characters. It seems on here that players who haven’t even touched an MK seriously think they can tier up the list.

It’s definitely not a better game than say, SF3 3rd Striker, but UMK3 IS the 3rd Strike of the franchise.

Make sure you get your discount from ultimatemk.

Kabal has a hard time vs teleporters who anticipate the counter throws from the other side of landing, and Reptile is a rough competitor for Kabal. Nightwolf can also hand Kabal his ass from time to time.

The top 10 are usable, and you do see them frequently in finals for tournaments, however the top 3 most often seen are Kabal Smoke Kung and Nightwolf. Ermac Reptile and Robot Smoke get a lot of use too. All these characters can mess eachother up, but Kabal overall is the best, but not God.

Having a lot of usable tournament characters means there’s something inherent to the game’s system that allows for potential to win with a larger cast. In MKT, even though it adds some broken characters, you will see that there are still about 10 charcters who can be used. If you eliminate the bosses by default and Noob Saibot a la ST AKuma, 15.

If you look at the tier list I categorized before I read this post, you will see just that.

EWAShock, FTW

Quoted for truth.

Also quoted for truth.

Homing Missile is an extremely slow, dotish move.
Anybody who gets trapped by that needs to be shot. Seriously.
Sektor could probably take an entire combo to face before that thing even hits, anyway. And, in some cases, a person can even combo Sektor and just block the missle afterwards.

You can also use other moves like sweeps, standing LKs and HKs to avoid homing missile contact, these moves can be timed in conjuction with your opponents attacks to counter and not be hit by missiles.

Hey Shock, when do you and the other expert players get on Live? I want to level up.

but somethings bug me… Shock you always blah blah blah and in tourney vids you look like an average layer. In fact, you dont demonstrate most of your knowledge. Why? Are you just pure theory and nothing in practice? Compared to the Chilean vids, Venezuelan or even the old Chicago footage, you show that you got nothing to show. If you always have encouraged how good UMK3 is, you sure dont show it in your matches.

At least you looked pretty bad at EVO. I have never understood why you encourage ppl to play agressively when you are one of the more defensive players.

With the new UMK for NDS I ve played many good players, and between them, some of the best are MOE30W, umk killer, Crazy Dominican, hanzo, and a guy called humberto. They really seem to know for what they are playing. They play TO WIN.

Side note: if you guys want serious MK action look for the Chicago old vids, or ECCX vids, also there should be one UMK3 tourney held in Chile that its very good and the MKK guys seem to play well too.
I readed an interview with Lex (the best UMK player worlwide, period) and he said that the closest thing to them were the MKK team, not my word, check it at ultimatemk.com. He dont even mention Shock.

I actually thought the matches I’ve seen between Shock and Crazy Dominican were pretty interesting. Not sure about the “play TO WIN” stuff. My guess is you saw vids where he played defensively and didn’t realize what was happening, lol.

Shock’s Reptile vs TomBrady’s Kabal was a very fun watch.

But, the real interesting part of this is that you went so far as to make an account just to make this post.

and who are you that know why i post? Do you play by the way?

Edit: im plazmaxd from chile… Do you have DS?

I know because you made an account today and did nothing but make this post.

I have DS without wireless right now. I played while I had it. But if you’re in Chile you’d be too laggy since I’m in US.

Leave it to Team MKK to start shit for non other than starting shit. Jealousy is what I smell.

RZPuta & Hanzo are cool guys, I love 'em, but this shit is beyond you and nobody asked for your opinion.

Edit: HAHA…I just now realized that was you, Dreemer. hehe No wonder that GosBroDansFan knows so much about MK, lol.

LOL should I take it the good way? Love ya Tim.

And to BARAIGHTER (plazmaxd), you said you can beat Ariel and Kabal from chile, till I dont see vids I dont believe a shit.

I rarely get on but once a week on average right now. I have been trying to get on more recently, but if I am on it’s after 1AM EST Monday nights into Tuesday AM more often than not. If you go to ultimatemk you will see tons of players who will help you get better and they are on all hours of the day collectively.

There are only about 5 players I have met who can beat me consistently and out of the players you list, I have not played Hanzo or Humberto for obvious reasons. I have seen all the vids you mention and I host a lot of them on ultimatemk. There is a lot you also don’t know that I will not get into. If I play against incredibly aggressive players, why bother trying to play like that as well? It only causes a great level of uncertainty and chance. It’s like Rocksteady and Bebop charging at eachother and seeing who wins based on physics. Any of the phantom players from Chile who want to come to the US and play some UMK3 I invite them. Don’t bother asking me to play on DS. You come here and start shit with another UMK3 player in a thread that is meant to defend the franchise. I am sickened by the underhandedness of the South American players, as with the exception of Ninja Grinder, that is the only thing I experience from any of you. Don’t expect any respect from me when you put down my game and have no business doing so.

stfu and practice

I just breezed over the last couple pages of this thread, and I wanted to say something.

lol…“Kommunity.”

Meat donut.

Again blah blah blah…

Phantom players? Visit fighterchile.cl and call all members phantoms…

hanso: porque me blocaste del msn man? oie estas molesto o algo? tenes tiempo sin conectarte oie. Wena esa.

Bring your Chilean buddies to the US and play, rather than talk talk talk about how good you are.

All I have to say at this point is that actions speak louder than words.
