"WHAT'S MY NAME NYKUGH!" Boondocks Season 4 thread

Not really feeling this season so far.

The Fox News parody was good, but the whole Good Times parody felt forced after the 4th and 5th times.

And please don’t equate me seeing differences in the approach of the show with trying to hate just because McGruder isn’t there. It’s not like there weren’t staff writers in previous seasons, but just like when your girlfriend that tells you “nothing wrong”, you can definitely feel something ain’t right.

I’m trying to remain optimistic since we’re only two episodes in but it’s starting to feel like Ben 10 : Omniverse to me y’all. That’s not a good thing.

:frowning: yeah…I felt the same, wasnt feeling this episode either, ed wuncler II just comes off as a generic loan shark

episode 1 was decent, 2 was boring… damn son :frowning:

The Uncle Ruckus bits were top notch, but everything else was kinda eh. The Good Times reference was funny until they started milking it too hard.

Okay…I didn’t like this one…

I partially blame it on me not knowing about the good times reference. But I also felt like they could have done much more with Ed the 3rd’s dad imo.

The difference between the 1st 3 seasons and this one (oops DISCLAIMER, with only 2 eps in) is the 22 minutes in its prime was LITTERED with jokes, good music, transitions, worthwhile side conversations, etc. in a rapid-fire succession, even in the carefully paced 1st season. You didn’t want the episode to end because it felt like they could easily make a fucking movie out of them.

Fast forward to S4, the episodes are pure torture to sit through. 22 minutes of forceful typecasting.

-It was nice to finally see Ed Wuncler’s son, but again, with the exception of his “Robert Motherfuckin’ Freeman! My nigga! I can say that, right? Of course I can!” he’s another example of a male character this season having a nervous tone when they deliver their lines when they should exemplify toughness. Both his father and son never acted like that (correction: III would at times, but it was usually full of hilarity, and not as normal conversation)

-Ruckus is single-handedly trying to maneuver this sinking ship. Mind-boggling how his live action Kickstarter project failed. In other news, Shaq Fu 2 looks like it’s gonna fail as well, so I can’t be too mad. But what could’ve been man…

-I screencapped the mural at the end lol.

-Look at Terry Crews’ character yelling at Tom before he gets possessed by Stinkmeaner in S2. That was a funny as fuck tirade. The Nigga Moment in “Good Times” was something you’d see on WSHH. Translation: not funny.

-Grandad’s ineptness in earlier seasons usually was a result of his ego taking over. Here they made him uncharacteristically ultra-dumb.

-Riley and Huey are just there. Nothing quotable.

-The “Good Times” should’ve been used again after Grandad got laid off from the car wash and that’s it. But nope, someone thought it’d be funny to litter the episode with it. Again, shit like this is eating into the time.

-Since I watched this on AS’s site without a preview to Ep. 3 I assume the next episode is the Freemans escaping Ed Wuncler’s Jr.'s slave camp in its Django parody. I guess that explains why I saw Tom there in the trailer despite Ruckus having a somewhat positive relationship with his mixed race family in the past but I think his recent comments on Pretty Boy Flizzy made him eradicate those feelings heh.

I’m watching this season only for completeness sakes, but I’m not getting the DVD even if 10 of these 20 episodes somehow become classics. S4 = Flat white booty butt cheeks.

I still don’t know WTF “Hanging in a Jury” is. And these bitches pussyfooted around it.

I knew they would.

watched it, laughed a little in the beginning, thought maybe this one will get it poppin, then found myself not laughing the other 80 percent of the episode, and just had this face at the end -_’

think you @Autocrat1 for typing what i would have, but didnt have the energy too. too saddened by the current season.

this is the boondocks i know and love. ahem… spear chucker. lol

**The Boondocks - Season 2 Episode 11 - The S Word **

They did cover that line in the Good Times song. It’s ***“hanging in a chow line”***, and Grandad, Huey, and Riley were literally in a line for Chow’s BBQ…

You probably missed while you were raging about how shitty two episodes of a 20-episode season have been below the quality of the platinum status of Season Two.**

its been rather meh IMO, haven’t been any laugh out loud moments yet, you’d expect the first episode to kick off the season in style, remember last season with the dodgeball ep I was laughing for days after that aired.

I dont like the tweak to the art style, almost looks like works in progress.

I am not feeling this season either. Granted it is still early but damn man, I struggled really hard wondering why Grandad was broke in the second episode? Like the problem came out of nowhere. The art style definitely took a drop in the first episode. Everyone got “stinkmeaner”-ized with the possessed angry black man look.

From what the next episode looks like it is going to be a Breaking Bad parody. Kinda feels too soon to be ripping off other media this early in the season.

Ah so that’s the next episode. Didn’t know since I didn’t watch a preview or bothered to look for one. So the Freemans are gonna be homeless for several episodes now?

Also Michael B. Jordan (Flizzy) revealed that McGruder got straight up fired

Now that sheds some light on a few things.

First off, before anyone starts flying off the handle, or calling up Sharpton and Jackson to boycott Adult Swim, let’s be clear on some things:

SONY PICTURES is the studio that is in charge of decisions involving The Boondocks TV series. If you’re going to rage, at least point it in the right direction…
Trust me, I’ve got enough beef with CN to open my own burger place, but Adult Swim is its own entity and I know they wouldn’t do something as stupid as to run off the creative mind behind such a culturally relevant and popular show as the Boondocks.

Also, it seems like even though Mcgruder was forced out, it may have been for the best for him, as he was clearly tired of working on the show, as many episodes of Season Three seemed to be attempting to tie up some loose ends.
*
Now you may begin your regularly scheduled internet raging…*

I’ve been raging against Sony Pictures ever since they had their grubby hands on this show. I think Regina King name dropped them on her frustration of how incognito the handling of the show has been overall.

SP probably got many Sterlings calling the shots TBH

EDIT: This is a good read. Apparently last week was scheduled to be the 2nd episode and next week is the 4th episode. WTF

http://www.vulture.com/m/2014/04/seitz-the-boondocks-season-4-review.html

Nah what really happened was Tyler Perry was pissed at that parody episode, so he somehow forced McGruder out and took over writing duties in secret to ruin Boondocks .

Rolled up on him like

Kinda looks like a darker skin McGruder now that I think about it…

You guys are on point with the criticism right now. Hope it picks up or it’ll be a long season.

At least Stinkmeaner IV will come. Since the season isn’t really hittin they may move it up.

I still think last week’s episode was so-so. This week’s one dropped the ball in the first 2 minutes. Imma still watch em, like the rest of yall are. Don’t lie.

I’m not gonna sit up here and get mad at a set-up episode. Looking forward to future episodes. The struggle is real again.

I forgot to mention Grandad’s new level of ineptitude. They him almost as retarded as Randy on South Park. Never go full retard.

Let’s be real here. They’re not just trying to use black pop culture references as a platform to provide entertainment this season, they’re using it as their sole means of filling up 22 minutes because they simply have weak direction. This episode was evidence of that.

I didn’t want to get too comprehensive, but the whole “Hanging in the chow line” ref is clearly stolen from the Chappelle’s Show “Do You Know Black People?” Sketch. The writers are just backtracking for any relevant pop culture material to siphon in some creativity into the episodes.

The Good Times parodies were uncomfortably extended to waste airtime and they wanted to create a façade of a “Nigga Moment” to just make us say- “See guys! We still are the Boondocks!”

Gary Anthony Williams aka Uncle Ruckus is pretty much the one consistent element because he’s the hardest one to mess up, he’s literally the embodiment of coonery. I wouldn’t be surprised if he and Stinkmeaner aka Cedric Yarborough get some creative license with their lines, so they still can provide some laughs.

Keep in mind, I’m not looking to hate this season, but I’m not above calling a spade a spade.

GS, @Autocrat1‌

If the show doesn’t improve by next week I’ll officially call it Boondocks GT.

Yeah, how many people have even seen Good Times? The show ended in 1979, and though it’s apparently been syndicated some I never saw it on Nick at Nite. I’d hazard that the theme song is the only thing most people know about the show, and about 80% of them only know about it because of Chappelle’s Show.
Also, I could be wrong but I think the Good Times bit was the first instance of the Boondocks breaking the 4th wall (other than narration). It feels very uncharacteristic.
