WHATAMIFIGHTINGFOOOOOOOOO!: the MvC3 Zero Thread

Happy Turkey day my fellow maverick hunters! ;D

Can someone suggest what a vergil player would consider a tighter strider teleport mixup string? I already got stuff like call dante raw S to use against naked teleport mixups. Trying to find an option against that real shit. The recorded setup beats all of zero’s fast normals/specials including launcher, s.L (teleport dodge), and ryuenjin (trades with strider). I’ve thrown vergil before the teleport comes out but thats a range issue. snapback worked on this setup to hit vergil as he is fading out.

In the setup I tested aside from using normals to move you can also time a dash backwards to narrowly dodge strider. This would be the ideal punish/escape. against this particular setup i mean. Thinking now I don’t know if i tested the dash against stay in front teleport. I did try the shippuga though. one option escapes, one kills vergil.

streaming my zero tech right now. and stuff.

Noticed this the other day. If you air dash low to the ground forward, let the dash complete (no normals). When you land you keep your air momentum. A little hokey but you can use it occasionally to get surprising range on your moves.

Quick help Zero players.

I have an SD TV that only has the 3 little yellow, white, and red cable ports and I have a PS3. What can I use to record footage (like a capture card or the aver media thing)?

You can use this guy: http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hvr950q.html

It’s what I used to use, and there are 2 versions of it; make sure you get the one with the composite/yellow-red-white adapter, I had to return the first one I bought for an exchange. The biggest problem with it is the bulky cable adapter is a little too heavy for that tiny device, so if you have it hanging off of something it will damage the connected port over time (this is what caused the color distortions in my old videos). You’ll need a laptop to connect to it while recording too.

I use the Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle, works with every connection Component, Composite and HDMI but yeah… It’s not a cheap solution at all considering the capture card costs a bit AND it needs a specific type of USB 3.0 to work i.e. new Lappy/ PC v_v

Streaming Zero may cry tonight =)

I figured I would go around and post this on character forums so folks can check it out:

Matches at 16:23, 1:31:51,3:36:22, 3:55:29. Any tips appreciated and or tech with this team that i am not using that i should be. A couple of moments i wasn’t very confident in my button presses as you will notice. Hawk-eye is also relatively new on my team as well.

You guys. Use j.:m:, :m: as a double overhead. It’s really good.

Do any of you Zero mains use predominantly H in the neutral for charging? Really all I play footsies with is cr.M and I don’t really use too often, maybe as an anti-air or just for big space control but it comes out a bit too slow for that.

If I got used it to I can imagine having quicker and more ready access to L Hienkyaku overheads and just his 4 frame light in general would be really useful, its just going to require a bit of me getting used to the charge switching mid confirm/combo. I also plink dash with M~L so I don’t get fucked if I end up throwing out a button on accident.

Am I missing anything here or what? I’ve always been so used to charging with L that I never considered using H for whatever reason, just trying to see if theres some negatives to charging with H.

I just switch somehow to another charge button if I need L.

The main problem with H for charging is that you won’t be able to throw or throw tech.

If I need to do j. L Hienkyaku for the mix up, I’ll just whiff j.M or do a dash with M+H to switch.
If I need to mash cr.L, then it’s usually because I just blocked something that is neutral or unsafe on block and the opponent is next to me. You can just freely switch charge during block stun or just drop it altogether.
If I need to do L Hadangeki, then I just kara cancel s.H into L Hadangeki really quickly.
[S]There’s not really much of a reason to do L. lightning in the neutral game, so I don’t worry about that. [/S] Eh nvm, I guess you can do it for a jump side switch mix up. I’d probably just whiff j.M and cancel into L. lightning though if I was going for this.
L fake dive isn’t really that useful in general. It doesn’t really make over heads much faster. If I need to start whiffing it to stay in the air, then I probably already just used H Hienkyaku and could have switched charge at that time.

The thing that I miss most about not having L button all the time in neutral game is s.L. It’s actually pretty good and fast button, but it’s not a huge deal to not have readily available to me. I’d rather have my buster charged and be able to tech throws and use the good M normals than use s.L.

Also speaking of L. Hadangeki. Totally underused version imo, mostly because of people using L to charge. It’s such a slow fireball that you can pretty much just run behind it. L. Hadangeki + Buster cancel is really good if you can beat the your opponent’s projectiles with just buster. It’s also a full screen hit confirm when your opponent is in the corner. You have plenty of time to just run up and press s.M after you see the opponent got hit by buster.

K so I dont know if this is the Forum to Do this, But Us I guess… ZERO Normal posters or consistent posters should clean up and update the forums a bit. We are getting constant random threads asking questions. I was thinking Update the Q and A thread with constantly asked questions, The Team Thread needs an Update with the main post consisting of staple teams since we are so far into the meta. The Combo thread is fine It just needs all the basic shit on the main page ( if it hasnt already been done ). Just a suggestion, would anyone be willing to help? I can add my Old assist guide to the new team thread or even work on something. I just need help from the rest of the Zero community.

Been meaning to do this for half a year myself but final year of Uni is killing me. I was thinking we should compile all the information on the 1 page to rule them all:
http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Ultimate_Marvel_vs_Capcom_3/Zero

I mean srsly? That Rehab video from Finger Cramp is there but nothing else? But yeah, I just don’t have the time for another 5-6 months to update it =/

yeah Finger cramp is not a good source for info it has DECENT info but we have a lot of info, I was thinking we should make a video like chapters of zero, starting with Buster Charging ( most important IMO ), Combos ( ending with lightning loops ), Movement and neutral game maybe, and last a team building or something. How can we edit the SRK wiki page? I think we should work on it.

Just create a wiki account on the site and you can edit pages IIRC. I asked Keits about it some time ago and they made it open to public editting.

So uh, does anyone here have any good solo Zero incoming mixups they would like to share besides Lightning xx Buster? Because I’m severely lacking in my Zero mixup game and don’t want to resort to using Jam Session as an assist since Bold Cancelling just isn’t my thing.

The idea is to get an inescapable setup using snap against Vergil primarily. Initial testing suggests air dashes don’t get out either, and Phoenix air teleport doesn’t either.

regarding the unblock.
snap sogen jump vertical j.S tele down s.L, walk back.
seems to meet all the requirements to setup unblock on vergil.

it meaties them grounded. cant throw.
shadow s.L counters helm break/super.
s.L recovers so zero can tech trap pushblocks,
most important vergil cant late push to cause s.L to connect while he is airborn. every time i tried it whiffs. so important to keep him from introducing a guess based on pushblocking that s.L .

buster is available for hit confirm/safety.
You need buster if they take the hit on incoming.

the unblock sequence is s.M , s.H kara into up teleport. d.H, c.L c.m (press 5.M again to option select the case when they dont block high on the overhead attack).
I wasnt able to block the unblock sequence at all in training mode.

the incoming routine will only work off snap because it relies on hugging the wall to give shadow s.L its whiff/punish properties.

The tech trap is a punish if they try to pushblock to stay in the air. Done right, there should only one pushblock while they fall in. Using s.L in the corner seems to make it whiff even if they pushblock very very late. This way they can’t do pushblock, pushblock or not and introduce a guess.

The tech trap :
First is to bait a pushblock on reaction call jam session and air throw. They are meant to tech the throw but if not free combo. On tech they fall through jam session because of the way throw breaks work and land grounded into a meaty jam session.
Escapes exist for double jump characters. During the throw tech pressing a button gets you hit by jam, but double jumpers can jump block to stay airborne during jam.

So the tech trap setup is:
Call jam then jump throw.
on tech QCF L for the feint’ then falling d.H overhead
c.L c.M S
If they take the overhead c.l whiffs but S comes out to confirm

If they block they cant push you out and get a low a high then low which should be hard to block.
If they take the jam hit it should be an easy confirm.

The tech trap as written doesnt work on all characters. Wide ones like zero dont get hit by falling d.H . S works except they can take the first overhead and make the confirm difficult.

I recorded video of the three parts of the setup on vergil.

The Ground Drag : force them to land or take a hit
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLvgdLV5thw

The tech trap: Punish air push block
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alnY0anETMQ

Zero unblockable : use your favorite sequence to unblock them
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxzK0euZAY8

Obviously air invincibles get you out. Ground invincibles get you out, though how lenient the game lets you be is unknown. Double jumps escape both the tech trap and ground drag.
Talking strictly Vergil/phoenix anchors though none of that is a problem. Vergil has no invincible supers. You can snap or xfactor against any of his xfactor dimension slash stuff and call it a good trade.
Phoenix has to burn meter to escape, and again is pretty much mission accomplished there. You could trade xfactor to get the kill on her, forcing her to burn xfactor to live. Good trades all around.

I am super thankful to @Chrisis‌ and @Flux‌ for playtesting.
