So uh…I’ve been working on unblockable setups with Zero and I think I found something really, REALLY good.
Basically you end your combo with your typical assist ender (you have to end in the corner). Then you do sougenmu->buster->lightning dive and walk forward. Right before they land you jump and airdash back. Almost immediately after airdashing back you do j.2H, land, 2.M.
When done correctly, you the shadow will catch both backward AND forward rolls with 1 hit of j.2H and you will 2.M them regardless of which side they rolled to. If they do a neutral recovery YOU will catch them with your j.2H (which unfortunately means you won’t unblockable them Q_Q).
Been trying it with training dummy set to random ground recovery and it seems to be working on medium and large width characters. If it is possible on smaller characters, it is definitely a lot more strict as I haven’t been able to consistently cover every recovery option with the same timing.
Thoughts?
edit: recorded myself doing it in training mode and played it back with dummy set to random recovery. Catches both forward and back recovery with unblockable. Neutral recovery gets hit by your j.2H (not your shadow’s). The recording didn’t work on multiple characters, but the setup does work on everybody (as I was able to make another recording for that character and it worked). The difference in timing is likely caused by a different amount of hits from the Lightning dash hitting them.
It certainly works when done properly, the issue is that it’s actually kinda hard (though that’s probably because I’ve only been going at it for less than a few hours). Basically, you have to make sure that Zero is at a specific distance from the corner to cover forward and back techs at the same time, but there’s not enough time to neutral jump to set that up (which is why you come down faster by airdashing, but this makes spacing more difficult).
Definitely something I want to play around with more (like figuring out what to do to mix them up if they neutral tech and advancing guard the j.2H).
can people play zero on xbox 360 pad? I couldn’t use my ps3 controller (pad), and I just thought it was impossible to charge my buster/nervous trying to perform combos on a 360 pad. lol, I choose braindead wesker instead for tournament
for umvc3: vergil, dante, and zero may be the best team in ultimate, due to all of zero’s tough mu’s getting nerfed (magneto, wolverine) and I’ve heard heard vergil is broken in this new game, as he looks like a phoneix, dante, and wolverine character all into one, plus, I think his assists look awesome for zero
It may be easier than ps3 because you can hold the bumpers with your ring finger to charge buster and call both assists. That was a problem for me when I played on ps3 pad.
lol, what? I’m trying to picture what you said, but that sounds pretty uncomfortable on my hand. I like how the ps3 controller has four buttons on top (l1, l2, r1, r2) so that I can charge buster, call an assist, and still zero teleports, where I was trying to do this on the xbox 360 pad, and my hand was crying out in pain.
edit: one more month until zero/dante have a new freind in ultimate,
I play Zero on 360 pad (or rather 360 analog stick, because 360’s d-pad is ass) and it’s not especially difficult. My button setup is
LT-assist 1
LB-light attack
RT-assist 2
RB-Medium+Heavy (yeah make fun of me I have a dash button <_<)
I charge with either L or H (I rarely charge with M but sometimes I’ll do it if I know I won’t need access to S any time soon. I know I can change RB to just M to fix that, but I love having that trigger dash button).
Seriously though, use the analog stick and not the pad. Make sure that you’re charging with a finger other than middle finger (unless your middle finger happens to be strong as fuck. For me, keeping my middle finger down while keeping my index finger up is more taxing than vice versa). That’s…pretty much it.
I don’t really see any disadvantages to playing on Pad as long as your willing to actually use all of the buttons.
Thats some dedication… I gave in and switched to a stick. I just learned the shippuga loop while charging the buster I couldnt figure it out on a pad. I have found that bold canceling was easier when I used a pad.
Shippuga loop isn’t hard on Pad either. Nothing Zero has is harder on pad than it is on stick, you just NEED an extra L button on one of your triggers/bumpers. Then you’ve still got one more button that you can make whatever you want
oh, well I won’t be an issue anymore, as I bought a converter from ps3 to xbox now, whew, I was just curious. btw, having a dash button is actually pretty smart.
but I can’t believe you can have execution play on 360 analong stick, every time I try charging the buster, I wanted to cry. I guess it’s a matter of preference.
