WHATAMIFIGHTINGFOOOOOOOOO!: the MvC3 Zero Thread

I still do the dive loop if I confirm a random hit near the corner during Sougenmu (which I use for the cloned Hadangekis) it does good damage and is easy to do (I did it in a tourney after learning it two days prior). DarkDeath’s loop I read about on here. I never thought about using it in a match, but apparently Marn thought it was good, so I’m wondering if it might be something practical. Theory fighter dictates that we should go for optimal meter gain and damage with every combo, but some of the stuff I’ve seen posted here is a bit impractical with regards to extremely specific spacing/timing and hitstun proration. I’m just wondering because you’re being so critical of Marn. I understand Wong because he doesn’t really play Zero and just does ABC super stuff, but Marn looks to be a Zero specialist and the best I’ve seen footage of in tournament so far. Maybe he has a specific reason for using those combos that we don’t know of. Or maybe they really are obsolete, I still see tourney Dantes doing ABC S launcher so I guess it’s not that far off a conjecture.

I’m a perfectionist so I’ll criticize anything short of perfection. I really like Marn as a player and not just in MvC3, and I don’t have any sort of agenda against him. It’s great seeing high-level Zero play and learning from the practical setups he uses, it would just be better if his combo knowledge was a little more refined.

As for tourney level Dantes doing magic series combos - even after many hours of practice over several weeks I still find bold cancel combos with instant air teleport to be extremely difficult and unreliable so going for the easier combo is easily understandable. None of Zero’s combos are difficult though if you know how to button switch your charge, and I know Marn does because he utilized it in TvC.

So I slept in and won’t make it to the tourney I was going to go to today >.>

So that mixup trick I was talking about is nothing necessarily new or super-secret, in fact I wouldn’t be surprised if someone has done this by accident a couple times already (or even beat me to putting it to use). Basically you call a beam assist (Doom works best), jump and :qcb::m: command dash from a distance where the command dash will put you right above the opponent’s head, and you want to time it so the beam hits at about the same time as you cross over the opponent, then Sentsuizan down on top of them. The ambiguity of the crossup combined with the pushback of the beam if they block it make this insanely hard to block every hit, and if the Sentsuizan connects you can easily confirm into c.:l: into a 2 loop version of the BnB.

I do something similar in the corner with h command dash so i have the option to do sentsuizan to go back in front or delay sentsuizan to land in back havent tried any mid screen setups so imma test urs out because i use zero/doom/wesker so i can actually try it

Lol… Perfectionist… Is that why all you do is sit in training mode? Sorry I put less than an hour into this game a week. Tell me when you place in a major before criticizing me and my Zero. My combos and mix ups are all original (excluding dloop)… I don’t watch videos all day unless someone shows me something. You are a prime example of a person who tries to talk like they are good but you really aren’t. So get my name out of your mouth and stop watching me. I’m sorry I’m not a perfect troll like you are. Please forgive my Zero since its not as perfect as yours. Let me know when you can show better ill be sure to praise your perfection.

Don’t get baited by the troll Marn. =/

Ummm he never called you a bad player (think he was trying to say the opposite actually)… Nonetheless, you just proved his point with your post… He said you would benefit from some training mode time, and you answered by saying you don`t play this game enough to get into training mode. Which is a shame really, you would be even more gdlk if you had a chance to get some training time in.

No need to go around calling people trolls just because they don`t worship you… I thought good players were all about absorbing critique?

Anyways, congrats on placing top 3 at Final Round, you had a great showing, keep it up…

Cmon Marn, he didn’t call you bad or anything, we all know you’re amazing, and you probably have 10+ years of experience than me so I would now you probably beat must of us with plain fundamentals. But that’s not the point, he didn’t call you bad, he is just saying there’s better BnBs out there that’s it, not criticizing anything else, and that doesn’t even mean you have to necessarily use them. So this is no “don’t get trolled marn” because there’s no trolls here, few people look up new shit everyday here on this forums and try to discuss ways to get better.

Even do great job Marn, me and my little cousin were cheering for you against Justin and Combofiend, and my cousin doesn’t even watch fighting games. So keep up the good job Marn.

No. its the way he said it that made me mad. I’m sorry but I always feel disrespected when people try to tell me I should do something else when I’m where I am for a reason. I do Dudley combos in SSF4 and they don’t do max damage but I like the way they look. If I wanted to be like everyone else I wouldn’t new the person that I am today. I want to be original and creative with my work. Maybe I did go a little overboard and I’m sorry. I just don’t like doing things everyone else is doing. My personality is in my characters and thats how it will always be.

I respect that, good looking out Marn…

That extra “flavour” you bring is important these days. Especially when high level matches get like 20 000 viewers… gotta bring some entertainment into it…

BTW, the way you talked about zero on the stream, it seemed like he was your main guy, while mags and sent were just there to support him… do you think as the game evolves and you get to spend more time with it, that you`ll build a team AROUND zero, like with optimal assists and whatnot, or do you consider sent and mags a good fit for zero?

I could be wrong of course, maybe you like mags and sent just as much as zero, but Im really curious thats why I`m throwing it out there…

I have a question, do you guys tend to generally let h and 6h hit more then cancel or just h cancel right away into 6h cancel right away into launcher?

if they’re standing and not knocked in the air by a 2h prior, then i always do all the hits. no reason not to.

otherwise, i change the amount depending on what i want. 1/2 hit to not cross up, 3 hit to cross up some characters, etc.

also, consistency>a little amount of extra damage.

i still use my poverty 2 assist zero combo (690k~ dmg) instead of a 780k~ 1 meter combo, but i land my poverty combo 100%, while my success rate with the 780k one in actual matches is pretty low.

@Marn
Oh I see Marn. And that’s cool seeing how much people enjoy your Dudley combos and style. Ok I get it now.

@MajenX
Yeah I would like to know too if Marn has a chance. I find Sent to be very good but Mags I only find him good to deal great damage with a dive kick type combo in the corner, seeing how his assist is only one hit and doesn’t affect damage scaling as much.

Its like i said before its possible that marn doesnt know the combos.

Grats marn on 3rd, but you didnt wear your lets go marn shirt :frowning:

Marn, while you’re still here, can I ask why you stopped doing the L(hold), M, 2H, 6H(hold)… into Rekkosai relaunch BnB? IIRC you were one of the first people who posted it.

lol. That AvariceX guy will pretend that he was never here and just post on the other threads on this board until a few pages pass. It’s kinda like “Oh, what was that?” and getting “Errr, nothing…” as a reply.

Hahaha…

first i wanna give a shoutout to marn good shit at final round your zero was opening people up so easily second i noticed you was doing lvl3 blast into l lighting alot on stream even if they blocked is the l lighting safe on block an third are you looking at other teams to support zero or are u just going to run mag/zero/sent until something catches ur eye

I meant to get a match in with you up at FR Marn. Your Zero stuff was nice, was kinda pissed to see you lose that match to Wong at the end because of the random Tron level 3 X factor death, Zero in the finals would have been hype.

Random question though, do you think Zero needs a beam assist or Sentinel to be effective in getting in? I was playing Zero / Ammy / Dante the whole weekend at FR and it seemed pretty hard to get in with him. Basically got carried by ammy and dante the entire time lol.

There was a guy named D-Dub who won a tournament here this past weekend with that exact team.

Just thought I’d share since he won and all. :karate:

This Helter Skelter guy is a real comedian. If you read my last post on this board you might have noticed the line “when I’m not just about to pass out”.

Anyway, to hopefully clear things up… As others have already mentioned I meant no disrespect to Marn, and I’ve said a few times in here that he’s one of my favorite players. Marn if you have your reasons for choosing your combos I totally respect that, I just had no real way of knowing that myself. I’ve also said in here that I do slightly easier Iron Man and Dante combos just for consistency so I get it. I really need to get in the habit of mentioning 2 things when I criticize people:

  1. I will always be more critical of myself than I am of anyone else
  2. I’m never criticizing to put someone on blast; I do it to hopefully make them aware of something new and helpful. While Marn almost certainly doesn’t need this advice, there’s lots of people who read this thread and who watch Marn play that could make use of it.

As for me playing in training mode all the time - I honestly have no choice in the matter. I live in the middle of nowhere and have one of the worst internet connections on the planet. Right now it’s either play training mode or don’t play. I have a couple people I get to play casuals with when our schedules line up. I’d love to really be good at this game (and I’ve said numerous times on this site that I’m terrible so I don’t know where the idea of me pretending be good at came from) and believe me, when I graduate in just over a month I’ll be moving to where there is competition, because I do plan on actually being good at this game.

tl;dr: Much respect to Marn, I’m bad at this game but there’s nothing that can be done about that yet, eventually I’ll be good and will place at a major
