WHATAMIFIGHTINGFOOOOOOOOO!: the MvC3 Zero Thread

I can’t believe I just read through this entire thread for answers. So much whining about completely irrelevant shit for the first 15 pages. At least the last few pages have been informative though. Coming from TvC though there’s some very important questions that I haven’t seen answered in this thread yet and I was wondering if anyone who’s been able to try the game could give some insight on them:

 1. Can you still switch charge buttons without releasing the charge shot? This is extremely important to all of Zero’s advanced combos in TvC and tbh I can’t believe no one has mentioned testing it.

 2. Does 3C (launcher) cancelled into light Ryuenjin still extend some extra hitstun to the Ryuenjin? (See the TvC combo videos posted by me or OmegaZero to get what I mean). In TvC you could go 3C xx l.Ryuenjin 5A, but if you tried to do this without the 3C first then you couldn’t combo 5A from Ryuenjin.

 3. Along the same line as the second question, can you still combo 2A (and/or 5A) in the corner after 6C if 6C catches them midair? Again, in TvC you could do something like 5C 3C xx l.Ryuenjin 5A 6C 2A 5B 2B (…rest of BnB) in midscreen.

 4. Does Zero’s sword still have projectile negating properties? In TvC you could negate most projectiles mainly with 5C or 6C; it was a good way to get through them while covering your approach and building a little meter at the same time.

 5. Do level 2 and 3 mid-air charge shots still put the opponent into free-fall? I.E. Can you still mid-air level 3 charge shot in corner, fall, j.B just before hitting the ground to juggle the opponent and then followup with another relaunch combo?

 6. Is level 1 charge shot Sougenmu loop still possible? Easiest method for the corner loop in TvC was: [5B 2B 5C (3-hit) {wait just about until you hear the charge sound} release charge shot]

 7. Can you still cancel 2C into 6C?

AvariceX: It’s exactly how I felt when the game just revealed Zero, I was fiending for actual game knowledge and saw pages of shit about stuff like Johnny Yong Bosch. I think that’s discussion’s fine for fun, but it shouldn’t be that many pages into it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, most of the stuff you’re asking for hasn’t been tested specifically, since only 2 (or is it three?) times have been shown with a build of Zero that was available, but there is some gameplay footage answering some of your questions in the first page, but lemme see what I can find.

1 and 7.

Multiple times you see in this video are charge shot combos with all the attack buttons, as well as 2C and 6C. You can apparently do 2C, 6C, 5A, 5B, 5C, into launcher without using a cancel which will be dope.

 1. Really wish I could tell you, I used this combo way longer than most people.

 2. Level 2 I think from the videos I’ve seen don’t really do much, level three according to the earlier video lets you do stuff like 5A, 5B, 5C, charge shot, repeat into launch (opponent was airborne in this case so I dunno if you can do it when they’re grounded). In the air it’s not shown how far it lets you drop, since instead the player does air charge shot into air 623+A into relaunch.

I hope I answered your questions a bit, but to test your questions in-depth we’ll have to either wait till someone will test with just Zero (and everyone wants to see the new characters more, so it’ll be hard) or just wait till the full version of the game comes out.

Thanks ken. I’ll of course be testing all of this the minute I grab this game, but I’m just trying to get a mental idea of what I should be trying first or what I might be able to carry over from TvC. Zero’s honestly the only character I’m 100% sure I’m playing (even if he’s the worst character in the game) so whatever info I can get on him is golden. Other characters I’m looking at are Iron Man, X23, Deadpool, Wesker, Amaterasu and maybe Dante or Captain America, not that it really matters as far as this discussion is concerned (unless anyone knows if any of them have any decent assist synergy with Zero I guess).

Yeah, I think Phoenix will have to go away simply because she IS a glass cannon like you said.

I’m willing to be ballsy and try Sentinel with Zero, if only to see how Sent’s ground or Projectile assist holds up with Zero on point.

How well does Ryuuenjin function as a DP? since I’m running Zero/Morr, if Zero’s DP is good enough I might just use Morrigan’s meter gain assist instead of Shadow Blade and use Zero as my AAA…

It looked pretty good, went forward a decent distance but we have to see if it has other great uses, maybe some invisibility.

It’s not bad but not as good Morrigan’s. Personally I’d only use Ryuenjin if no one else on your team has a better AAA, otherwise go with Handangeki which is actually pretty good. Morrigan’s meter assist, from what I remember, only gives about 1/3 of a bar, maybe slightly less. I reckon it’d be better to make use of her Shadow Blade assist instead. I’m thinking of a Zero/Morrigan combination myself

I will probably personally use Shippuga assist for pressure/mixup/combo extender, Hadangeki only hits once so as a projectile I don’t think it’ll hold up for too long as a projectile assist IMO.

I’m scouring the bad play of the Gamespot tournament for anything. :stuck_out_tongue:

:f::h: lets you combo into :l: on a standing opponent by itself, so you don’t have to do a sweep to get it to combo. I assume you probably want to anyway to use up time for a longer charge though.

Errrmm. What’s stopping something like a [:l: :m: :h: :f::h:] loop in the corner then? Or perhaps more appropriately; how long would it take for hitstun scaling to make that loop impossible? Or did Capcom just say “fuck it, let’s give him the Sougenmu loop with no meter”?

well that was interesting shippuga to 5a

The game has something in the combo system called “hit stun decay” where the more hits in a combo, the subsequent hits do less hit stun to the point where the same normals/specials might not combo anymore.

So basically, even if you can do the loop two or three times, it’ll stop comboing at a certain point.

sigh no mmzero outfit makes me a sad panda

I specifically mentioned hitstun scaling in my post. TvC had it too; it didn’t stop the Sougenmu loop from being possible 12 times (which was only the maximum actually possible between 1x DHC, 1x assist, and 1x Baroque - if it were possible to Sougenmu again in that combo the loop might have even been able to repeat further, especially considering you can still do a full corner combo after that).

Zero is looking like he still has that crazy lockdown from tvc, I can only imagine what he would do with a really good lock down/chip assist.

I’m surprised so many people wanted his Mega Man Zero look. I mean, the games were amazing, but in terms of appearance, I didn’t think Zero looked very cool. Now, if we’re talking the MMZ armor design, but with the X-series face and body-style? I’d be sold. But as much as we joke about “Zero boobs”, MMZ Zero looked exactly like a girl.

I’m still amazed, though, that they didn’t give Zero his real Black armor. I mean, his armor is already Black; why not just give him white hair, just for perfectionists’ sake? And for that matter, why doesn’t his “Axl” color have red/orange hair?

On a more serious note, I’m thinking that Zero would pair up nicely with MODOK and one other. Use MODOK to chip away at the opponents keep-away character, and combo into Zero when they come in to counter. Arthur seems a semi-logical choice, if only to add to MODOK’s chip damage, but I would hesitate would have an entire team of hit-me-not’s.

I hope this is the case. Judging by the length of his combos in MvC3 already, if this simple loop does exist it should be able to go on for quite some time.

Also, if the loop is lacking damage or is difficult without Sougenmu, then I wonder how powerful/easy it would be with Sougenmu, considering it affects normals now.

anyone find out whether or not Zero loses Sougenmu when tagged out? I get the feeling it does, but Shippugga sounds like a much better assist if it’s pumped by Sougenmu… so I’m hoping it does

He loses it on tag-out in TvC, so I’d go with ‘probably’.

Or Hadangeki. I really don’t think he keeps it, but don’t have any basis for that other than it would be insanely good.
