Well XI doesn’t exist in my eyes (it’s not KOF without Mai)
so 2003 I love the tag system it’s pretty balanced. Ash ROCKS!!! The music is the best the series has had since 2000. The roster is perfect (even the Giffon is useable)
The fact that Athena and Billy are retarded in 2k2 doesn’t make grapplers less stupid. Grapplers in KOF are easy mode, period.
Useless? What the fuck do you think Clark players or Chris players do to get in?
Turtling in KOF is very, very limited. Do you really play this game or what?
CDs were just an example. Jump-ins are usually safe in KOF, specially with the hops. Hell, look at 2k2, Ryo and Blue Mary are probably the only characters with a DP that doesn’t lose or trade with jump-ins.
grapplers are not cheesy nor broken, I’ll use 2k2 as an example. Cause all the grapplers are exactly somewhere between high middle tier and low middle tier. You just suck. And even then, they’re not scrubby cause of the grapple, they’re based on the strength of their normals (Daimon anyone?)
Short hops make the game much more aggressive, I’m sorry if you need SF2 style DP every jump on reaction type play. the hop is very strong yes. But there are solutions. (roll. c.C) like I said, clearly you don’t play much.
Every characters CD attacks serve different purposes. If j. CD was so broken you’d see it all the time, all day as the safest way to pressure. You’re an idiot. I’d also like to note a few more things. Most of KOF happens on the ground with footsie style play. Chris moves in with his tough to read mixups. His teleport and cross up jump move are much better than j. CD. The fact that you can’t DP all jump ins is a poor reason to hate the game. It’s like bitching about having your dragon punch parried. Do you hate 3s as well?
I personally love getting good damage off BnB combos. It means I don’t need to turtle for super in order to win. I don’t hear anyone complain about easy 3 hit combos that practically dizzy in SF2. In fact even without damage scaling the damage usually isn’t more than 1/3 or 1/4. A lot of BnBs won’t get past 1/5 of the bar.
You’re an idiot. KOF is more offense oriented. How can you complain? This complaint of yours is so fucking retarded. I fucking hate shit like cvs2 and 3s cause I find I’m turtling the whole game til I get super than I pull a chun-li on my opponent and win. It’s a different game with a focus on offense and pressure. If you get owned by it it means you’re a) not playing the game properly or b) worse than your opponent. So quit being a fag. It’s not SF.
Of course that’s not to say there’s no defense in this game. A good defense usually just means having a different offense. I’d say Athena, Whip, Vanessa and grapplers can all play excellent defense. It’s just that the defense involves teleporting or poking from far away or punishing everything your opponent does on his offense (which is NOT risk free). So learn the game before you bitch.
Newb is right ur wrong. Grapplers are not god tier in Kof. U just suck for lsoing to them. I never said all jump Cd’s sucked. But some do. Like lets say Kyo His j.CD has like no range. Just because Clark and Chris have good CD’s doesnt mean everyone does. Choi, like the best char in the game in 2k2, ALWAYS JUMP C’s no CD. Who the fuck said all u can do in KOF is turtle, if ur complainin about grapplers getting u all the fuckin time the YOU must either suck ass or turtle too much. And why do dp’s matter to u so much. So Ryo has a GODly dp, then y is he lower-mid tier? By ur reasoning he should rule the game.
Saying every character in 2002 is top-tier doesn’t make any sense. Just because some characters have good tactics doesn’t mean they’re in the same league as ABC. Angel’s kind of down there in the ranks despite the infinite, last I heard.
And what’s this talk about grapplers in KOF being “Easy Mode?” Just fucking poke once in a while and you’re fine, that’s what the grapplers themselves are gonna be doing. Most KOF characters can launch a safe offensive game, and so unless you’re the idiot that thinks he can get away with whiffing DPs, the grapplers don’t hold an advantage outside of games like 2003.
Alot of CD attacks in KoF suck balls too, so I don’t know where that kind of commentary would come from. Wowzers, Chris’s famous j.CD MUST mean the command itself is broken. That’s like saying crouching fierce in Street Fighter is too good using Sagat as the example.
The only thing that actually made sense is the bit about low-jumps being too good, which is actually debatable. Removing them however would morph the game significantly, as they’re a huge part of the offensive formula.
They nerf the potential of DPs because of how fast they are and how low-priority most DPs are, but they help keep the pace of the game rather constant. In other games jumping is a risk, while in KOF it usually is not. That’s a keypoint to offense oriented games. The risk factor.
I still dont really understand your lodgic cause it doesnt make any sense at all. Still people play CVS2 and MVC2 and those games I think are more broken then KOF 2002 or 98 and people play them.
Angel can certainly be top tier. She’s just so god damned hard to play and so much god damned work that it’s usually more than most people can handle. She has the high priority j. command kick (can’t remember input) followed by 4 hit string with ridiculous mixup on each hit. It may not look ridiculous but she has that ABC thing which means it’s not just OH/low/throw/UB/priority mix up anymore. It’s evade and punish and start the damn mixup all over again too. That alone should be top tier. But that’s not all, wait you can combo these strings. Not only that but an infinite which you can pull off in the corner. I’m sorry, if you know what the fuck you’re doing Angel is beast tier.
KOF 99DM for Dreamcast has a few selling points over NEO GEO’s MVS version:
Anime Intro. The game’s playtime is effected by the music reset each round. Tedious.
However, 98’s notice to the old way of business (ADV and Extra bars) was a great thing to have. Everybody likes options. Too bad they took it out post 98 and altered the Extra.
as for Grapplers being easy mode- Lots of chars are decent anti-grappler.
For example, in 98, if someone was to try grappling me to hell, I’d use a Mai/Lucky/Kensou team, just for example. Mai’s air dive, down+A and great ground pokes would give Goro some trouble. Lucky’s the best keep-out char in 98, and Kensou’s a good shoto…
I’d have many more options, and 98 was the game where grapplers were strongest.
I rate 98 over 2k2 because I feel you can use more styles of gameplay in 98, 2k2 has that turtle to big combo feel at times with some chars (esp Vanessa)
I would have liked PS2 2k3 if Duolon hadn’t been so overpowered- outside of that, there weren’t many huge problems- and no game is problem proof. Beni and Malin were retarded, but not unbeatable by any stretch.
I recently played the Neo-Geo ROM for KOF 2001, and it is by far my favorite KOF. Buy 2000/2001…it’s worth your money and then some. The striker system on '01 is the shit, and there’s a HUGE roster.
Wow you are one of the few that like KOF 2001…the only reason I like that game is BC KULA HAS A FUCKING INFINITE…
You got that right…I been playing with Kula and all on her pussy since 2000, even got a Kula statue in my room…so when I play her in XI I won’t be a “TTW”
You know if I know what the fuck I’m doing with Sean in 3rd Strike, Sean is top tier. Please, just because you are a beast with Angel doesn’t mean she’s really a beast.
In an equal skill scenario, Athena will fuck Angel up. I mean, her mix-ups will work if she does manage to get near Athena, but a good Athena won’t do that. She’ll Psycho Ball Angel to death. Same with Billy and Choi.
Um no. Angel is really a beast. Shes just really hard to use. And thats why ABC is the top tier in this game. And i use Sean in 3s alot and get wins but he is NOT top tier. EVER.
ABC are top in the game because they’re really good at locking everybody else down. It’s as simple as that, ease of use isn’t what makes a character the best. Like it was just said, what’s beastly about an Angel that’s been put in a submission hold?
So you’re concurring. Angel is a beast when not in a submission hold. that’s the entire cast - 3. In fact it’s not even that bad cause she’s quite capable of putting the submission hold on billy. And Angel’s lockdown doesn’t force the opponent to stay there and crouch block all day. It forces him to run away, crouch block, high block and jump.
A note: Choi does not lockdown. He runs.
Kane: your logic is faulty. Angel has tools, Sean does not. Let me reiterate. Angel has broken as fuck tools.
Let me use a different example. Magneto Storm Cable and Sentinel are not top tier in low skill matches. If you can’t fast fly/unfly, runaway, AHVB, or infinite. The top tier fucking sucks.
Yes you make sense and I play Angel/Maylee so I agree they are high curve but can beast…but Choi CAN LOCKDOWN…with his Counterhit walk jab setup…but yes he mostly RUNS very true…and jumps with Crossover C to st. jab blah blah blah…
