What you think is the best KOF version?

Yea Rugal is banned and i never said that the Orochi New Face or Kusanagi are banned. Which is why i never put them in my little no allowed sentence.

Why exactly do they ban these characters in the first place, besides not being in the original arcade version and perhaps potentially being “overpowered”? I never understand why these kind of extra characters are banned. >_>

Ill answer that…Priority…Geese is SVC Geese in KOF2k2…which in the KOF engine is worse…I wish I could show you that…I’D LOVE TO show you…

O.Iori is straight from SVC…which means 96 Scum Gale Infinite.

Goenitz is straight from SVC…not toned down at all…but it hurts him in the KOF engine…so I disagree with banning him…bc in SVC you couldnt roll, or GCFS cost you a meter, so that hurt YOU, helped him. In KOF you can just roll SVC Goenitzs tornadoes (Mind you I said SVC’s NOT 96 BOSS Goenitz’s trust me I know this shit!!!)

Rugal…hes the boss untoned down.

Most tourney rules ban hidden/secret characters as a whole.

BUT…in the new Atomiswave neo games the bosses are all dare I say it “Tournament eligible!!” They have all been given the Garou treatment, where bosses like Kain and Grant have been nerfed from their CPU AI counterparts…

prime example, comparing 2002 Rugal to NeoWave Rugal…NOT EVEN CLOSE. NeoWave Rugal is tournament eligible by far as is Young Aof2 Geese, 2002 RUGAL IS NOT.

I hope that helped explain some things to you. If you look at the NeoWave tiers and NeoGeo Battle Coliseum, you see THE BOSSES ARE IN THE TIERS…which means they are playable AND HAVE BEEN NERFED.

2003 it seems like maki should be banned, I was messing around with. Shes broke as fuck.

I dont understand why King is banned in 2002.

Didn’t you see above? She does ridiculous amounts of damage. Daimon and Chang look like Little Bo Beep aside her. :wasted:

99 King is the best King between all of them! After that immediately would be 2K3 King prolly a tie between Neo Wave and 2001. Her worst and first game was 96.
King is too good!

In 2k3: Maki, Adelhyde (sp?), and Mukai (sp?) are all banned.

And the biggest reason that King is banned in 2k2 is because she isn’t in the arcade version. Console only characters are almost always banned.

Gameplay wise: King of Fighters '98
Storyline wise: King of Fighters '97
Fun Factor: King of Fighters 2000 (IMO)

The game I have the most fun with: 2001(IMO, so don’t bother flamming me)
The best overall: 2002

why 04 neowave, that shit looks broken. Everyone uses Cris.

Well, I think it’s pretty much established that KOF98 and 02 are the top tier ranks as far as KOFs games go. But what about after that? I read this whole thread and have very mixed signals on a general consensus after 98/02.

While I’m at it, what would be considered the worst? Or among the worst?

Mr. Q damn with that av I see why you have a 35-0 win streak.

I can beat Chris…he doesnt phase me…Young Geese owns him for free.

2001= Ultra broke, mainly for the Stryker system (NOT the same as 2000). Charas are very complete (and fun to play), but presentation is the most crappy of all them. One of the worst.

2000= Good, great charas, music, presentation, but the stryker system is broke (not as 2001, but broke).

1999= Crappy as hell, mainly cause all the changes in gameplay, roster AND roll system.

1997= Good, but everything it does, 98 does better. Presentation is a bit crappy.

1996= Very good presentation for its time, interesting system, in general above average. Give this one a chance, you may like it.

1995 & 1994= Cant comment, i dont play those, but the pace of the game is slow, focusing in pokes and punishing, like classic SF, but with different twists.

2003= I dont like all the changes, so im not giving an opinion on this one…

Sup Judgement! If your looking for opinions here than all the KOF’s are good outside of 98 and 2k2. Theyre all different so it all depends on what style you like. 94 has very simple generic gameplay with sidesteping, charge, dash, desperation.
If you like simple oldschool KOF this is the game to play.
95- Pretty much like 94 except now you can team edit. (One of my favs)

96- Large cast of characters, where the rolling system was first introduced and Run along with Tech Roll. They nulified the charging aspect from taunts so you cant just openly charge. Desperation supers. The game is pretty fast paced and is one of the fastest KOF games in terms of speed. Good storyline.Great music (96 is cool)

97- Not alot of characters. They have an Extra mode revamped from the previous games and an unique character alignment element to it where a character is either Likes, dislikes or is neutral about theyre team partners (individually).
(All the females love Benimaru including the Orochi’s lol)
Great storyline. Solid gameplay. My only gripe with this game is the counter hit infinites and lack of music. Other than that its ok.

98- Dont really need to go here too much. 98’s balanced gameplay and cast of characters brought back from the previous KOF’s (Vice and Mature amongst a few with team USA) All around good smooth gameplay. Character alignment changes from a daily basis, like every time the machine (arcade is turned off and restarted all the alignments change) So if Kyo can be happy one day towards everyone and give his left over meter for stock or he can just be angry and not give anyone sh*t lol
I love the system that they used for this because in a way it changes the gameplay slightly. If your main team has all yellow faces that day your at a great advantage but that same team can have all red faces and it can or cannot be a disadvantage depending on your team. Plus if your getting hit with multi hitting grabs and your on your teams side. they wont help you.

99- Now with 99 they tryed to take a slightly different approach by adding Ultimate defense and Advanced Offense. Theres no back rolling, instead they added like a quick hop back dash manuver which is pretty good to utilize in certain situations. I think one of the reasons people didnt like this game to much was because of this aspect. 4 person teams were introduced for the first time with the stryker system (Oh Yuri’s Stryker is the best btw)
New storyline introduced and kinda weak imo but nonetheless 99 is good if your looking for something a little different in KOF.

2K- First off I hate everything about this game and was extremely disappointed in it. They kept the stryker system but the gameplay is slow and sluggish.
Very bad and if you wanna go by worst KOF and alot of ppl will agree this would be my pick!

2k1- They introduced a ratio system to KOF alla CVS so you can have teams of 1( like a ratio 4 from CVS which has strong offense and defense with 3 strykers)
to 2 with 2 strykers etc. Not all that great but better than 2000.
Heidern Top Tier!!!

2k2- Once again no explanation needed really. Great speed, gameplay, balanced.
Pretty much 2k2 is an advanced 98 and is why its so good! Went back a little to oldschool KOF. (One of my favorites)

2k3- The problem with this game mainly is its speed. Its terribly slow from that of normal KOF and I think slower than 2000 which is pretty slow. Other than that the game has some prett solid gameplay. New tag system introduced. Team Leader Supers. I personally like 2k3 its ok

Pretty much you got NeoWave and KOF XI but thats not what this thread is about so I wont get into them but yes it all depends on your style and what you like. I dont think theres really a bad KOF but be weary of 2000!

My vote go’s to KOF 98 and 2002. Although I must say KOF XI is fantastic but I haven’t really gotten into it all that much.

95, old school!! Kickdance combos look too cool

is Angel any good in 2002? Cause im trying to learn her but if shes like low tier, I think it would be a waste of time.

Other thing i was thinking about was why KOF games arent that popular. I guess people dont like them cause there not flashy or someone might think there a ripoff of SF games. Watching the 2002 vids though they use like almost every character, its to bad KOF games dont get enough credit as SF games

Everybody is top tier in 2k2. Everyone has some pretty broken shit. Angel especially. Angel can be fun. She’s definitely the hardest character to learn though. However, she’s got an infinite and various retarded combos. Best mixup in the game. Definitely playable though.

Nobody likes KOF because:

  1. low tier graphics
  2. little to no opportunity to play it
  3. sort of hard to get into.

I love KOF, but I had to do a fair amount of work to get into it.

Hard to get into? KOF is one of the most scrubby games out there.

You automatically “master” KOF when you:

1- realize how cheesy and no-skills-required grapplers are
2- realize how broken short jumps with zero recovery are
3- realize how useless most “anti-air” moves are…jump CDs >>>> DPs
4- realize how retarded is the damage from basic combos because SNK aparently doesn’t know what the fuck is damage scaling
5- realize how KOF in general is all ofense and zero defense because of the reasons above

KOF is not meant to be serious, I guess.

Again why do KOF scrubs complain about grapplers and not chars like Athena or Billy. It just shows u dont know what the fuck ur talking about. And alot of jumping CD are completely useless compared to other moves. U must turtle to all hell to be owned by grapplers and just a fuckin retard in general to say CD’s beat everything. Go back and play ur Yu-Gi-Oh.
