I would pay anytime if needed, if that will make it so I can find excellent Videos by people like Thongboy in one spot, instead of having to search for it by othermeans. CV is top-tier. :tup: :tup: :tup:
Lol. I must say, I was smiling throughout reading this whole thread. I should be probably be pissed off by kofiend’s post but I’m not - because one thing I realize is some people are always going to talk out of their ass when they think they know what’s going on when yet they don’t have a clue.
kofiend, if you’re the same guy I think you are I hosted a crapload of your 3S videos back in the day at no charge to you or anyone else. When I had a hookup with a huge amount of bandwidth did I charge anything to anyone for months upon months? No. Not until that hookup (with insane bandwidth died) did I have to investigate and brainstorm courses of action to keep the site alive. And if you actually took 2 seconds to read the CV PLUS section I say that I am NOT charging for videos, it’s for the bandwdith your consuming from my servers. I have several dedicated servers, among them on surpasshosting.com and FDCservers.net Check out http://www.fdcservers.net/dedicated.html level 3 plan. This is just a sample of what this shit costs me $ every month.
For those that think I’m making $ out of this let me clear this up right now. I am LOSING $. Not to mention precious time which is worth $. CV is like a full time job really. As I’ve said time and again, this site takes time my friends. Hours and hours on a daily basis go in to talking to people who want to submit stuff (not to mention those that will then in the future make ungrateful ignorant posts such as this one), making updates, downloading and uploading videos, modding forums, site improvements, and more. I assure you this isn’t a site you can build over night. I’m still surprised where it has gotten in under 1 year.
And as Saotome Kaneda said, you need to check the site again - nearly everything has been reopened up due to supporters like Saotome Kaneda, Jechensor, SlimX and many many more - so you can thank them for the site still being open at all at this point.
In respect to people not submitting videos to the site - I get the approval of most of the stuff on there. You’d be surprised with how many people I’ve spoken to. Check the Hall of Fame out. I know like 95% of those people in there. joo, ozy, tosaka, MEM, NKI, Slim X etc. etc. etc. I’ve made the effort and spoken to them all. Fortunately for both me as well as the community, they were actually “honored” as they worded it to have their videos hosted on CV; as I was honored to host them.
One thing is for sure though. Get your ish hosted elsewhere in the future, it’s not welcome on CV.

Not trying to turn this into a flame war (looks around, too late)… Anyway, he charges for the storage and bandwidth. Trust me, it gets expensive, as I ask for donations to keep my site up. You figure at the costs of storage if you are running a dedicated server, then add bandwidth into the factor. So if he has 2000 gigs of traffic over the course of a month, and his limit is only 1200 for the month, he has to pay the cost of .50 on every 100 megs he used up. Do the math, and not saying this happened to him, but it happened to me.
All in all, be grateful there are people like him (and me 0_0) that do this for the fans! :tup:

It belived in the system, until they changed it to 5 dollars a month. It should be 5 dollar donation = lifetime membership.
I love the site, I’m just saying 5 bucks a month is steep for free content.
If not for CV, I’d be selling magazine subscriptions.

People want videos, other people want to provide videos, video creators want credit, it’s not an easy problem to solve. People have tried to approach this in different ways, gamecombos, video-opera, srk sort of had a media section, cv and i’ve even been known to host some vids here and there. Until there is a ‘best’ solution people are just doing the best they can, which seems ok to me. I’m sure if the ‘owner’ of any vid objects to it being on cv they would honor it (not that i speak for them).
Kids think everything should be free. Fucking bums.
I pay a bout 40 dollars for 60GB of bandwidth. And I’m damn sure that CV uses up a lot more bandwidth than that. Heck if you check out CVs front page they show the monthly bandwidth meter in terms of dollars. IIRC its about $450 a month. If no one donates or clicks on ads, thats 450 dollars that Blazd would have to pay out of his own pocket… every month. Fuck, you can get a car for less than that. So asking for 5 dollars a month will hardly put a dent in that bandwidth cost, but it’d be appreciated.
For BT, if perhaps you had a dedicated PC server that had all of those BT files on there and had them running 24/7 then it could work. But given how BT slows your IC. No one would want to network on their home computer to have a BT dedicated PC on there to have everything slown down to slower than having a modem connection. Which BTW would probably mean that if one decides to have have that, that they’d have to get a second internet connection so their main line isn’t congessed with BT. So that’ll still be costing the main host 40-80 dollars a month depending on who you go with. And should anything bad happen to the computer, everyone is fucked.

actually the way it worked in the cs community is we would pay makers to make the movie and they would release it. like atticus presents a forsaken team video. but then again the cs vids are of much more quality then the sf vids. you guys are actually kinda lame is pure showmanship of your craft in making videos. thongboy and maybe a few others are really the only ones who seem to be trying…

Well unless you’re willing to chop up a combo or match in bits and pieces, theres no way its really going to sync to music and things like that. Given the genre it is, deems its going to have to be in its whole as possible.

Not to side with them but maybe the reason people want a cheap price is because they don’t have jobs or simply don’t have enough money to donate (not saying all do but maybe some)
so I can understand them wanting a cheaper price although you don’t “owe it” to them as some try to claim. I wouldn’t take it to heart
There’s still no need for disrespect though, even if he was making a profit i’d still be behind him I mean it helps out the community out and I’d actually feel alot better about it if he was making a profit for the effort he puts in
