makoto: yes, she’s probably best played when 99% “random”, but she’s so much weaker when not utilized in such a manner. all fighting games require guessing, but makoto is high risk/high reward, so it’s understandable why she’s often called “random”. except for a few examples like sa1 confirms and some moves you can use on reaction, she basically has a very limited way of “safely” dealing significant damage. I think Makoto is interesting because of this and no other character in the game is like her. One strategy you can choose is to fight her in a way to lessen her “random” factor - keep her away from her strengths, and/or another could be to fight her “randomness” head on if you feel you can read your opponent properly/rps/risk vs reward is in your favor. If you’re losing to makoto bs, no matter the Makoto player’s skill level (<,=, or >), it’s legitimate and you can and should make the proper adjustments.

I didn’t see any guessing in that first round, btw. Sometimes you know what your opponent is doing after playing against them for a long time.
the only time i like makoto is when i counter pick with akuma. after hayate, i can avoid giving her the priority of doing whatever she wants and spam them tatsus.
but when using ryu, i have to play turtle which is boring and annoying for everyone.
She’s a doozie but I dunno. Personally I don’t find any matchup annoying/stupid except maybe Twelve.
Who’s going to shit on you if you decide not to turtle and just go for it. I don’t think you can play defensively and win. I always want to play like that but I think really in that matchup you just need to suck it up and go for it. Ryu can threaten her pretty well when she’s cornered and I don’t feel Makoto has a whole lot she can do about it that Ryu doesn’t have some kind of answer for.
Just finding a spot to create that situation takes either impeccable spacing or just balls to the wall gusto.
If Makoto really was that random and hard to deal with just by her “randomness” then she would be number one in the game. She can kill most characters in one combo like she should be in Marvel 3 but it’s not quite that simple either. She doesn’t really have a way to space herself as effectively as the other characters due to her atrocious walk speed and dash that forces her to close in on the opponent no matter where she is. Makoto when she loses will lose to effective spacing from just about any other character that doesn’t just take her shit for free like Q or Hugo. The fact that most of the cast has a better footsie game than she does means she has to approach in ways that are rather predictable and not as based on fundamentals. You just have to keep moving yourself in positions against her where she has to do something that can set her up for parry bait and learning to red parry effectively is a big deterrent from her running c.L, to hayate all day. Plus it’s punishable on block by most of the cast any way.

I like it the way it is. And I wouldn’t have any suggestions for balance changes that haven’t already been said. I think that if they rebalance 3s OE then they should have an option to play the arcade perfect port as well.
