EVO organizers always hated 3s…they didn’t consider it to really be street fighter…even when it was constantly the #1 game at EVO and was bringing all the hype (and that’s not saying much compared to the popularity of 3s in Japan compared to America)…as soon as EVO got big and had a newer and massively mainstream moneymachine (SF4 and the new generation eye-candy console games) they dropped 3s like a bad habit.
I think we all have to accept the concept that 3s is simply not a good fit for America…it’s sophisticated in a way that Americans just can’t understand or don’t like or something…that reminds me of when the Japanese say that no one outside of Japan can truly understand or appreciate manga lol
I’m not really too concerned with evo being on the main stage either. My concern is with the amount of tournaments and their turnouts (Both categories being low) Regardless of what anyone says, and regardless of who enters, I feel this 25th Anniversary Tournament actually shines some light on this game. Didn’t the Austin qualifier pull around 160 entrants? There hasn’t been an American tourney in years that have pulled numbers like that for 3S. (If I’m wrong then please correct me). If we could do numbers even a fraction of that on a regular basis, that’d be awesome.
Just to throw it out there: What about running something similar to the King of GGPO series they’re doing with ST? I know it lags and all that shit but at least it helps show that 3S isn’t quite dead and offers a platform to get people playing.
Well with that, there’s a danger in keeping it only Online. Nothing changes.
Following some of an early King of GGPO, the aftermath spilled over into the forums and made a mess. People really made an ass of themselves, causing the ire of everyone who saw it. The Winner pops off and considers himself God’s gift to fighting games, when to most he had nothing worth bragging about. Nobody can take away his “King of GGPO” title, once. Is he playing in more tournaments? Will he play some guys who weren’t in the Tournament and want to challenge him? Is he playing offline? The answers were all No, and to the offline player he wasn’t all that. He might even be fraudulent garbage aided by fighting both him and the lag. Lag goes both ways, fine, can he prove it Offline? The answer as far as I got to following it was again, No. Nobody saw this guy again. He didn’t make waves in ToLegends. Nobody wants to give an Online King a free ticket, full paid trip to come out and just get smashed, even if only to shut them up. Because it really won’t.
I’m not going to tell anyone not to play GGPO 3rd Strike if that’s what they enjoy doing or is one of their only avenues left to play it, though. Just the same, you might play long sets with someone you’d never be able to, and befriend a stranger fellow fighting game player, like a new kind of “pen pal,” with a lot more punching them in the face.
GGPO 3s doesn’t work that well for any of that to happen like it can sometimes for other games though.
Oh yeah, people still play. & It’ll have some presence at EVO even if its not a main game. So you guys worried about that should just play and try to make it to EVO. People want it at EVO but won’t even go to EVO, whats up with that.

Ryu Final Manga is pretty cool. One of few manga I own. ShunGokuSatsu from the perspective of someone getting hit by it, lifting the veil of that screen going black, spaceman/magneto powered Akuma… just he comes down into the plane from a floating debris rock. Oro teaches Ryu, or is just wandering around bothering him. Dudley crashes his famous car because he’s driving with gloves on, amazing panel and how he comes out unscathed, that’s some boxing chin strength Dudley.
Elena not doing anything, but helping Ryu on his way somehow, he counters a Corkscrew way better than any Cross Counter ever could. And yeah I keep spoiling things. Leave out the other Ryu ones. Ken gets smashed by Gill and has to pick up the pieces. You only exist to help Ryu get better, buddy. Sagat shows up for something, forgot. To fight Hugo maybe.
Forgot to speak up to the other NorCal guys who mentioned possibly going to EVO for this year that it already happened. & NorCal Regionals had no 3s which was a crime against nature SF State college dark cold auditorium(ppl were excited about ahead of time for some reason) still $50-60 venue fee kineda moneys even sherry complained why was she there get out of here sherry. john choi hosts em and doesn’t break even kindof a crime too, so he does less events as its not worth it to do too many and stretch yourself thin. Good guy john choi. wonder whats his SF3 Ryu look like, I don’t like playing Ryu in other games, or maybe just Alpha and EX.
