What would it take to have a 3s Tournament of Legends next year?

If I won the lottery I’d make sure 3S had the biggest pot at EVO. Double whatever the biggest games are. >:D

sighs That will probably not happen though. :frowning:

3s players consume approximately 15% of the worlds weed, good luck getting people organized

Put a 10,000 $ prize payout. I’m sure you would get plenty of talent to show up (especially the japanese) money talks. would be nice to see on arcade though. Retsu make it happen somehow (everyone play lotto lol ).

nowadays people are more prone to respond when there’s a pot of money involved. any other way you’re looking at a 8 - 10 man turn out.

After attending 3rd ManiaX last weekend, it really made me think why this tourney won’t and doesn’t need to happen.

Last weekend was a great event. Had more fun than most 3rd Strike tourneys I’ve played in. 10000 times more fun than any evo. This tourney was a monthly regular event that is nothing too special to Tokyo players. What’s the point for Japanese players to come to play in some Frankenstein arcade setup or console?

No one plays 3rd Strike for the money.

Evo doesn’t like 3rd strike. Oh well, fuck em. Why waste tons of effort for them to shit on us again?? I’m not interested.

If you love 3rd Strike and you want there to be a great event, save up the money you’d use to travel to Vegas and come to Japan instead. There can just be an event organized in Japan, on arcade, with the best players. Japan is expensive and guess what, Las Vegas is too.

If you’re not even planning on attending anything and just want to watch a sick stream, well your opinion doesn’t count.

Sorry if this isn’t the optimistic, happy response people want to hear, but this is just the truth.

Damn right. 3rd strike in Japan was never about money, the game is just too damn good to ignore. What saddens me is that it will always be a niche game everywhere except in Japan. Hell even Capcom can’t be arsed to produce a lagless set-up for their official tournaments.

As for people that want to watch high level play there was never a shortage of that on youtube or nico video.

The bottom line is what do people really want out of a tournament of legends?

If you want top level 3rd Strike, then tol will not fulfill that… In America, the level of play is low. Only maybe 5 people in all of America can hang with average to above average Japanese. And no one outside of Japan can really touch the “big boys” of 3rd.

If people want a “hype” tourney, then tol won’t deliver that either. Low level play, with evos staff lack of enthusiasm. The average spectator hating chun, yun, ken, and getting a mean hard on for low tier will be disappointed greatly. Bootleg setups = dropped combos and goof troop 3rd strike.

To me, it seems people want a tournament of legends to try and basically have a “Japanese 3rd Strike” tourney on American soil. What’s the point?

Also how many people picked up ST after watching EVO this year?

Tho i feel like the only reason for a TOL would be to make up for the horrible 3rd Strike exhibition in 2011 :stuck_out_tongue:

I started playing more ST after the ST TOL, so…Atleast one I guess?

I would like to have the opportunity to play in *any *3s tourney in the states. It seems like 3soe was the final nail in the coffin, I haven’t seen 3s in any tourney lineups in quite a while, at least the tourneys in my area anyway.

the bottom line is that money talks here in the states. yes we all love 3rd Strike because of it’s sentiment but the deciding factor which puts the west in a different category is money period. The Japanese have never really geared towards money tournaments and yet there communities have thrived. It is the exact opposite over here. This is simply how it is. Rather than trying to build or revive a community using Japanese values, I’d say to actually go the good old Western Way. Attendance, Money, Marketing will garner attention for our community and allow it to be taken more seriously. The 25th ANNV tourney is a prime example of what money and marketing can do in terms of gathering interest for a big 3s event.

On another note it’s very discouraging to see you degrade the western scene so much ryan. The bottom line is that we have to work with what we have over here and can’t possibly make it out to Japan every time we want to do something for ourselves that’s 3s related. If someone says “oh I’m thinking about throwing a tournament here” and then you say “No the USA sucks, they can’t compete with japan, you have to go to Japan to play” then that diminishes the quality of our scene. It’s a self destructing pattern. As much as we’d all love to play Threez in the East, I think we should be focused more on redeveloping our own scene.

yea its a shame that people play for money… good thing that our group of 3s dedicated people, we dont care bout the money we just wanna play… maybe cause im rich and other people arent. im a fucking zillionaire u know wut i mean… holla at yo boi

Huge prize pots are a moot point because where is this cash gonna come from?

If we have a $500 entry tourney then it’s prob just gonna be 10 entries max. The matches will be not exciting and chun will get booed. Evo strike all over again.

Of course people cannot travel to Japan to play 3rd strike as easy as they’d wish, but realistically there’s only a handful of us who are still that dedicated to 3rd strike. In other words, it’s more realistic for us to travel to Japan that it is for the top Japanese to come to America.

Think about this… $500 entry into a high stakes tourney plus $300 airfare to Vegas means you’re already in the hole for 8 bills. Put that towards a ticket to Japan to play. You wont win cash prizes here but you will not be disappointed. I promise that.

Of course, this is just my opinion Neiman. If you wanna a throw a tol then go for it doggie. I just happen to be a firm believer in evo+3rd= disaster. I would advise to try and have it at another major.

Good luck.

To add something…

I believe throwing a tourney to be more beneficial than a tournament of legends. It seems people just want a serious tourney to play in moreso than an exhibition.

Genki, Deshiken, RX, Kokujin and Pierrot have travelled outside of Japan recently for Tournaments playing on Online Edition

I’d actually like to see something like this happen in France like the European X-Mania, though i’m not sure if Kurahashi etc. were paid to come over or they paid for it off their own backs

find a girlfriend for kuroda

im with you ryan, but i dont know where you came up with 500$ to enter a tournament. w/ tol there was qualifers but wasnt 500 to enter. i understand you are thinking theoretically but pretty extreme number you put. but yes i agree evo shits on 3s even though evo grew cause of 3s and mvc2. mr wizard and that gang hates on 3s more then they hate on clayfighters.

and just throwing tournaments around here… we try but no one even goes cause they are too scared to put in $5 … yes we threw some big 3s tournaments and yet not the expected # we wanted… wut 64 ppl… and we even brought mov over… no one really cared. so throwing a ToL of 3s is stupid. everyone online tries to hype up the game, but in the end they dont want to go to tournaments and just stay online.

someone said something bout the 25th anniversary and how it is making it bigger or something like that… pyrolee doesnt plan on going. 5star plans on not going. they are older 3s heads and they just are turned off on the fact its on console, lag, … they dont care bout the money. they might change their minds on going , but thats the consensus they have told us. even though its a free tournament… so even getting them to go to a TOL in vegas doesnt even appeal to them.

I randomly brought up $500 because Neiman was bringing up big prize pots. The money isn’t gonna just appear out of nowhere, and the only way to get money is huge entry fees. IMO it’s a horrible idea. Just like Matt says ppl won’t even pay $5.

Deemo: When most Japanese players travel outside their country, they are usually given a plane ticket. This is what America did for MOV and UAE did for the others.

Yeah i know it’s usually the case, but did Shadaloo Showdown pay Genki and Deshiken to fly over and play a minor game where only the top 4 was streamed and most of the games were played to the side to a crowd of like 3 people? who bought RX a ticket to Brazil to play on a CRT in some guys house?

X-mania is a Japanese tournament, who paid for their tickets? X-mania? probably was the case but i doubt they were thinking ERRMERRGURRD WATS THE POINT IN PLAYIN OUTSIDE OV JAPAN WAT A BUNCH OF NOOBS111111 (i’m sure Kuroda thinks this tho)

You’d have to ask the tourney organizers for oz and brazil. I’m pretty sure their tickets were paid for.

The point is what’s the draw for Japanese to come to America. I wouldnt feel comfortable inviting players over to spend their own money unless I was 1000% confident that the tourney would be both successful and worth the effort to come. That’s something I have zero confidence evo can deliver.
