What would be your opinion if the roster is like 70-80% the same as USFIV?

Yeah it’s weird in SF4 it’s like they tried making all the characters feel as similar as possible to their original versions, giving a few exceptions in regard to EX and ultras, and the combo system, and various pokes. Like they didn’t really redesign anybody to where they felt drastically different. I guess it was just the games engine that made characters feel… ineffective, or at least just boring.

Anyway, I liked Remy. He wasn’t a great or original design, but he was enough like Guile to where I can be comfortable playing him. He just didn’t have enough command normals where I felt like I could be offensive and hold charge at the same time. I had to let go of one tool in place of another. But that was fine too given how 3rd Strike’s system allows you to be offensive and defensive at the same time. And the fact that 3S allowed dashing was a way different spin for a designated zoning character. So there was definitely some rebalance. Necro kind of worked the same but I’ve mainly seen him as more rush down than zoning.

I gave them a pass for making SF4 as familiar as it was because it was for all intents and purposes an unofficial reboot of the franchise. It needed to be familiar, even if it was superficial like moves and costumes. I’ll think twice about giving them a pass in SF5 if they repeat that shit.

I like Remy design wise, especially now. Back then he was off, and didn’t really fit the SF mold we were used to, he was very SNK. I liked that SF had a femme male character though (Vega doesn’t count, he’s a psychopath), I’d welcome him back if his moveset was given a more original twist and deviated from the Guile rip-off.

The SF3 characters for the most part aged much better than the SF2 characters, many of whom still feel completely modern; Then again, the SF2 characters don’t age anymore because they have reached iconic status. I’d most want to see Urien (my main there), Necro, Q, Alex, and Oro. Hands down the best original designs to come from SF3 IMO.

Of course I’m hoping for Urien, Necro, Q, and to a lesser extent 12. What was fun about SF3 was just the fact they had all these mutant looking characters. Almost like Darkstalkers got into Street Fighter, without being so derivative from classic horror/thriller movies. Seemed like SF4 was banking on giving the fans all these “cool” or “evil” or “cute” characters to fuel the fighting game resurgence. But me, I like the weird ones.

I hope SF5 is really trimming the fat, so to speak, by reducing the roster size, and giving a well rounded character diversity in playstyle, balance, and personality. It’s funny I didn’t even make the connection between Remy being femme like Vega until now. Or maybe I did a long time ago but forgot about it. I do feel at this point, the community as a whole is owed all or most of the rest of the 3S cast that was suspiciously excluded from SF4.

To go off topic a little bit, I was playing this one Necro player online recently and he seemed new to the game, but also seemed to know some things. The way he was playing kind of made me think how Necro would’ve played if he was in SF4. It was very rushdown and high/low heavy with good corner pressure. Would’ve rivaled Dudley, Rolento, or Elena’s SF4 versions for sure. But I suppose it was for the best Necro wasn’t in, because he would’ve probably felt more redundant than anything. Also his ankle throw would’ve been OP.

I remember that some time ago Harada confirmed Q wasn’t going to appear in TxS. Considering that game has vaporware status, it surprises me that he bothered to make an statement that specific and so out of place. Which could have been his motives? Does Ono / Ayano hate the character with burning passion and told Harada to not include it from the beginning of the deal, or do they fear running into copyright issues?

Its a really hard choice on Capcoms side. Most of the replies are going to go. “Hey Capcom We want new characters , but just leave my main in mmmk?” Which in the end becomes a popularity contest.

That being said , I hope Guy does make it in to this or the 2nd iteration. I keep trying to get myself to enjoy some other character , but I just cant find anyone similar. Their Initial Run character in SF4 (Elf) plays nothing like him and honestly is a terrible design for a character. I really got into the game once Super was out.

The fun thing about maining shotos is that I really don’t have to worry about the roster at all. Sakuras not their? Bummer. Akumas gone? Unlikely, but possible. But hey look its ryu! so I’m not worried about “who am I gonna play”. Looking at it from the perspective of balance and diversity, considering the rumored 16 character roster, I’d like to see 4 brand new characters at the least. And given the assumed place in the timeline I’d love to see oro, Q, and twelve.

New characters? I swear I’ve read this article saying that a new character called Kuan or something is in the roster. Apparently he’s Bisons righthand scientist or something. There was also a new character called Sherry.

Those claims were not true. It got debunk awhile back.

Well shit. I hope there will be Urien or Alex since the article says that ALL of these details were false, which could mean that all the fake rumored characters have a chance of not being in the game.

I’m hoping Eagle returns.

Ahh yes, the gay character. I also think he should return. (Btw I didn’t mean this comment in a negative way).

I think these should be mandatory in a Street Fighter game roster (except for DeeJay).

For the rest of the roster, surprise me. I’m in for anything. I’d like to see Poison and Hugo come back and I’d suregive a try to Sean if he shows up.

They had already pulled out the WW comeback trick twice in a row (minor swap of Cammy for Honda for SxT). Not that they need to ax all of them but the roster is in a serious need of an overhaul.
