What were your most highly anticipated fighting game console ports of all time?

Killer Instinct Snes.

yep yep, same for me. Nothing compared to the frenzy for those 2 games. MVC1 for DC as well, I was desperate for that after pumping a year and a half worth of coins in it.

UMK3 for the Genesis. I was a really big MK fan at that time, I had my notebook with all the fatalities and combos

Right now, I’m really hyped for SFIV for PC and KOF XII if it’s true it will come out for PC too.

By far, Arcana Heart. After playing it in Japan and moving back to the states, i was constantly fiending for it, so once the port came out and I got it, i was sooooo happy.

Soul Calibur 2 was also a big one. It meant not paying money to play in arcades anymore. Tekken 5 was also a pretty big deal, especially considering how fast it came out after arcade release (which sucked for arcade owners/operators).

Early 20s old skooler

1. Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting for SNES (called Babbages every hour for two days before the second shipment arrival date just in case… they got it around 10am on a Thursday morning I think…)

  1. Mortal Kombat 1 for SNES (my mom wouldn’t let me buy it even though it was bloodless)

  2. Mortal Kombat II for SNES

  3. Marvel vs. Capcom 1 for Playstation

  4. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for Playstation 2

That about wraps it up.

SNES Street Fighter II Turbo for me.

Probably the ONLY game where we (my brother and I) pre-ordered the game in TWO different video game stores, and then waiting which store would get it first.

It was GET HYPE TIME! :woot:

Street Fighter 2 Turbo. I played the hell out of World Warriors on SNES, but when I went to the arcade, everyone was playing HF if they had the time to stand around in line. And then I hear about it coming to SNES, and I was stoked.

We didn’t end up buying the game cuz it was pricey as hell, but I must’ve rented it a billion times. Man, I was so excited to play as the bosses, and to check out all these brand new moves…

Past that it was probably Mortal Kombat 2. My dad got the first one for SNES, we played it, it was pretty neat. But everything I had read on 2 made it sound so much better, so I was really looking forward to it.

I also recall having a great amount of excitement for CvS2 back in the day. My buddies and I would sit around in class at school and discuss which characters were announced, and what grooves, and all that nifty stuff.

  1. Street Fighter II: Championship Edition (Super Nintendo Entertainment System)
  2. Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Playstation)
  3. Garou Mark of the Wolves (Playstation 2)
  4. King of the Fighter XII (Playstation 3)
  5. Rage of the Dragons (???) I’m still waiting on this one… :frowning:

Street fighter collection for xbox live, followed by sfa3 for ps1

Champion Edition never came out on the SNES, unless you’re counting Normal Mode of Turbo, but that wasn’t quite the same as CE.

KI on SNES. The game blew my mind the first time I saw it in arcades.

Nowadays, SFIV and STHD. They are the reason I bought a 58" hdtv.

Then
Street Fighter II Championship Edition (SNES) - I was all about players being able to use the same character in fights.

Samurai Shodown (SNES) - The first SNK game I loved and it was coming to a system I owned.

Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers (SNES) - Fei Long was playable. Enough said.

Now
KoF XII (PS3) - High-res KoF? Do I even need to explain?

SFIV (PS3) - First new SF in years.

Oops… sorry I must have been thinking of “The New Challengers”. My Bad.

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, by far. It pretty much meant I’d have a chance of possessing an amount of money greater than what was needed to buy a coin at the local saloon, and there were lots of saloons at that time, every single one of them with at least one SF2 cab.

All the alpha games. Me and my brother geeked so hard over SFA that they didn’t have the PS1 version at Block Buster so we rented the SNES one. I also played SFA3 demo on Dreamcast when it first came out and was really interested in trying R.Mika since her picture was shown at even mentioning of the game. Then when I play it I quickly realized I didn’t want to use her and just stuck with Ken and Guy

Mortal Kombat 2 on SNES

IT HAD BLOOD!!!

Street Fighter Alpha 2 on SNES back in Late '96

Look at it through a poor kid’s eyes, first Street Fighter in years!!! (SSFII in '94) we played the living hell out of SSFII in them days.

Street Fighter II Turbo - Though I will admit I wasn’t anticipating it, I was a huge fan of playing SFII at the local “walmart” type store, my father bought it for me when he got the SNES. I was fucking ecstatic that I didn’t have to spend anymore quarters.

MVC2 - I loved playing the original MVC in the arcade, although I usually got my ass kicked up and down, I owned it on PSX but it wasn’t as much fun playing at home by myself. Well when I read that the sequel was coming out on the PS2 with that many characters I was extremely excited but I could never find a place that had it in stock, I went to all the local gaming stores, none of them had it or could order it for me. They all had the dreamcast and xbox version but not the PS2. Needless to say I never did get that game on the PS2. I do have it on my dreamcast now.

I was reeeally young in the fighting game scene, but I was excited with the Dreamcast version of Soul Calibur. Those were good times there.

With my increasing interest of SNK fighters, I was excited to get the KOF 2000/2001 bundle. From what I’ve seen/heard it is an ok port. I’ll still keep it till I get the Nests Collection.

^ This.
I can’t comment on being in Japan having never been there, but ever since I first saw the game in action, I fell in love with it. When I found out about a PS2 port back in July last year, I had to reassure myself that I was dreaming.
