We’re veterans. Karate champ was the first one I played.
First was Streets of Rage, but first fighting game i think i played was MK1. SFII was the second, followed by Virtua Fighter.
Mine was SF2 WW Arcade in a little store in Mexico City. =)
Street Fighter II: The World Warrior at the Arcade Pool Dome & Ice Cream Parlour at the Bingemans Camping Ground in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.
somewhere between MK1 / Karate Champ / Samurai Spirits…mostly the first SS, that game really made me wanna get good…that and when I saw people getting really good at the first Fatal Fury game. That was in DC, like, way back when they still had an arcade in Georgetown that did good business, plus when I lived in Georgia for a while the racetrack down there had crazy good players at MK2 and that’s where I really started playing SF2CE and SS and MK2. damn, good memories.
karate champ, Yie Ar Kung Fu and SF1… bitches!! old school…
SF2 WW at the Underground in Berkeley, CA was the first. Didn’t fall in love with them until CE and being able to play as Vega though.
Original SF2 WW at a candy shop the first few times.
I used to work in a Church Community Center. They had the machine for the original SF2 WW game for an upcoming bazar turned off, laying in wait for the event. One night they left me watching the place and after everyone left I stayed for 2 hours to play the game alone, really practice the moves in the game using the movelist I had from an old EGM issue. If I would of got caught turning this game on and playing it I would of been fired easy(eventually I did get fired pulling a similar stunt not related to gaming but that’s another story. ). I still had to shove quarters in it so it wasn’t free but back then it was next to imposible to find a machine alone. When I went back to the candy shop my game was a lot better.
Back then I used Ryu and Chun-Li, still my favorite video game characters of all time even after all of these years have past. Memories…
Street Fighter 2 at an old arcade i used to go to back when they were cool. I used to practice and hog the machine when i was four. I always practiced. I have a few memories of me practicing when I was 4 trying to do 360’s. I was into it then as much but I guess it has had some effect on me since when i was a kid I never had a console and the arcade was my only way of playing. I guess I always made the most of it. Good times…
I got started with MK1 when I was… 8 or something.
And then I downloaded Mugen…
…
KOF2k2, then CVS2, and then everything else!
sf2:ww on the snes when i was 14…my friend told me to rent it and i almost didn’t, but i decided to get it and krusty’s fun house. i spent the next two days without sleep trying to learn how to throw fireballs on a snes controller…my thumb was fucking RAW!
Mine was SF2: CE at around 1992 in some random little convenient store right by my house. I remember wondering how some random guy always managed to get to M.Bison w/ just 1 coin w/ Guile who I thought sucked just because he had 2 special moves lol
Ha, I can see that there are a few '70s babies on here (were gettin old!)
My first true experience, SF1 back in '88 at the bowling in Panorama City, CA. I tried Karate Champ before that but I could never get the hang of it.
Karate Champ, and Championship Kung-Fu (on my good old Apple IIc).
Hell yeah, I was a Karate Champ addict…favorite move was to kneel and wait for the other player to come in…then it was the chop to the nuts/midsection and it was all over. Cheap but effective.
And whatever other fighter, can’t remember…that had characters named after their weapons. Fan, chain…I sucked but we loved that game to death!
Mortal Kombat in the arcade, good times. Down, foward, low punch all day long.
Back when I was a kid… Fatal Fury 1 was the game that awaken me to fighting games… and also made me realized I have the knack for making friends.
Oh yeah, and a ton of “Eternal Champions”:lovin:
Heh, mine was Way of the Exploding Fist 1, on my trusty Commodore 64. I played the hell out of Yie Ar Kung Fu on my C64 too, and all you people who say they played the NES version actually played Yie Ar Kung Fu 2. The first one was completely wacky, with crazy jumps; pressing up made you jump to the top of the screen (keep in mind your character was rather small). Diagonal jumps made you jump to the top of the screen AND to the other corner. It was really, really freaky. I beat the damn game, but it took so insanely long since all the characters were hella cheap after the fourth one (who used a giant green wood panel or something). The game rocked.
And the first 3-player fighting game was International Karate 3+ on the C64. 2 player-controller characters + 1 AI at the same time. Ah, the memories…
I’m 27 now, btw.
