What was the/your first fighting game?

I believe my first fighter that I played was Street Fighter 2. My brother was a dick whenever we played that… or at least, the times I remember playing together with him on that game.

HYPER!

but what really got me going was cvs2.

Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers for the Sega Genesis. Yeah.

Man feels old posting in a thread like this.

Barbarian on the BBC micro. Took 20 mins to load up the game. Never managed to complete the damn thing, could get onto the 2nd set of backgrounds and that was it.

2 player mode was immense. Mid round fatalities and everything!

Karate Champ (NES version) and Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior (ARC)

It was either Street Fighter II: Champion Edition

or

Fatal Fury I in the Pizza Hut.

(Damn, I miss those days. Going to Pizza Hut cuz they always had a fighting game).

SF2 on the Genesis is where it all started for me

I can’t remember the name of the first fighter I ever played or the system it was on. I do remember it was it was around the early/mid 80s, had a Budha statue in one background and you could do sweep attacks to knock your opponent down. Does anyone know what that game was?

The first I owned at home would be Barbarian on the Amstrad. You could behead your opponent and a little ghoul would come on and drag the body away
while kicking the head along :amazed:. After that there was Yi Are Kung Fu.

WWF Superstars (if that counts) was the 1st I played in the arcades followed later on by SF2 WW.

Does that include beatemup fighting games?

I remember playing Double Dragon and Golden Axe in the arcades back in the late 80’s, then the TMNT arcade game, SF2:WW, Mortal Kombat, and quite a few on the Sega Megadrive.

I remember playing SF2 on the genesis at my cousins house, but he didn’t have a six button controller, so you had to press the start button to switch between punches and kicks, it made me not want to buy a Genesis for a while, that was until I discovered 6 button controllers.

My first fighting game was SF2 for SNES. My brother and his friends would frequent arcades and SF2 was an instant buy for him, thus I was introduced to it.

Karate Champ at the arcade with a dual stick set up. I remember my Mom beating my ass at it when I was like 7. We played that often when we were at a location that had that cabinet. In college, I moved onto Street Fighter II: WW.

I got into the scene really late (and perhaps with the wrong game to start out on) with Super Smash Bros. Melee.

(on that note, can we please forgoe the smash isn’t a fighting game antics?)

Karate Champ followed by Yie Ar Kung-Fu. I also enjoyed playing Violence Fight by Taito. You could fight a friggin’ tiger in that game!

SF2 on SNES, followed by MK1 and Eternal Champions. PS: Anyone remember Primal Rage?

Fatal Fury on the Genesis. I thought Joe was the best character because of his rapid punch move… Good times!

The first one is probably a (crappy) boxing game for the Atari 2600. After that, years later, SF2:WW at the local arcade.

Boxing from Activision for the Atari 2600.
I still play that game, it is so… balanced…

However the most memorable is Street Fighter II.
My sister and I played that every time we could,
and we even let the Super Famicom powered on all weekend for that for no good reason.

SFII: World Warrior

Samurai Showdown/Fatal Fury. I got mocked from kids as school for playing those games but you know it was my introduction to SNK. I ended up getting into SFII afterwards.
