I’ve heard a lot of complaints about this game’s roster. So I started thinking, is it even possible to have a roster that would please everybody? Through reading various forums I think I’ve got a handle on which characters are the most popular, so I thought I’d give it a try.
I’ll use the number of characters that are in the game and assume that is all they really had time to include. So now I’ll weed out who stays and who goes, keeping in mind that this is essentially a dream match so no one absolutely has to be included for story purposes. They could have released this game with any characters they wanted and it wouldn’t make a difference to the “story”.
This is not at all my own personal wishlist, this is an experiment to see if there is a roster that could please the majority of the fanbase by including who I’ve deduced are the most popular characters according to them. Indeed I’ve removed a few characters that I love in the current roster but who just aren’t as essential to have as some others are.

I also considered removing Goro and adding King, because I’m not sure how popular Daimon is. However there wouldn’t be many grapplers if I did that and I’m pretty sure he’s more popular than Raiden.
So, if this was the final roster (keeping in mind they only have time to create 22 characters), would you guys be happy with it?

If you want to contribute advice, don’t just say who YOU would want. Say who you think the majority would want.
But he attracts a lot of haters…and in a 22 character game, you know cries of " waste of character spot for kyo clone joke " would arise. I think King would be a much better fit, and has equal popularity.
I like the current cast but i think it needs more people.Shingo and Vannessa definitely but the 97 orochi team(Yashiro,Shermie,Chris) are my favorite characters but they’ve been canon dead for 12 years
hmm… in honesty i love dou lou, i would rather them remove ryo or robert, robert is so simple and boring design character, everyone and everything in the backgrounds are more inspiring then him visually.Or ryo- a fuckin ryu and ken combined together and put into kof, quite honestly im sick of ryu and ken…i dont need to see a version of him in any game but his own.
Yamazaki would be an excellent add and mai should have already fuckin been in the game in the first place. And shen woo definitley doesnt need to be in the games hes pretty basic and lame also. Vanessa would be a good mature replacement. I dont really care for blue mary but mayb a good rep. for elizabeth. But in general very good roster i would be happy with it all but dou lou not be added but…if he was never in the game ever i wouldnt have cared and your roster would be perfect =D
um the quote didnt even say that lol, it says mai , not k and king.but honestly there both cool as hell, but…king isnt essential she not included ina few titles as well as k, but mai has been in every kof since the first one in 94, and shes been in almost all fatal furys. Mai’s is kof leading lady, there female mascot.

If I’m not mistaken, I was under the impression that King of Fighters XII was not really a dream match, but more of a prelude to the next part of the Tales of Ash storyline continuing from XI. In other words, the characters that SNKP decided to put in this game may have a part in the upcoming storyline, and not just because of popularity.
That’s why Iori is de-powered in this game, and also why Duo Lon, Shen Woo, and Elizabeth are in this game. In addition, Sie Kensou’s appearance and fighting style have dramatically changed, so I think that he is probably going to be an important part of the next storyline as well (Duo Lon is searching for Ron, who in turn is interested in Sie Kensou’s Power of the Dragon).
i was just watchin a video of mai on youtube, on capcom vs snk 2 and i miss her, my favorite part as far as character personality that like about mai, is when she dies shes screams andy names, now as far as i know no other character in fighting game history( atleast the popular ones) calles out anyone elses name in the game but mai.
