Vanilla Forums: $49-$549/month
Xenforo: $140-$490
vBulletin: $249 (new), $209 (upgrade)
phpBB: Free
IPS: $175-$349
SMF: Free

He have a license to vBulletin. However, he said he didn’t like how vulnerable the site was. Therefore, he switched to Xenforo, but it was causing slowdown. Now, he’s using a different software plus a host that provides a stable connection.

We shall see how this host handles a traffic.

Some of the most famous and biggest forums on the internet use VB, I can’t imagine it would be That vulnerable if it’s patched and kept the security in check. If the webhosting service is good and gives enough processing power for a high traffic forum, VB runs very smooth and well.

I used to run a forum using IPB which from my experience was pretty good, but that was a very very long time ago so I have no idea how it fares these days.

vBulleting sucks, especially compared to XenForo, which just about every major FG forum uses (8WayRun, FreeStepDodge, VirtuaFighter.com, SkullHeart, All-Star Arena).

The only reason we aren’t on Xen anymore is because the load was too much for SRK’s servers so they simply looked for a forum solution that would host SRK’s forums on their own servers.

Apparently, Xen isn’t in active development anymore. vBulletin is. vBulletin is actually in the process of releasing a huge update to their software (vB5).

Seriously, though. ANYTHING (except maybe phpBB) is better than this garbage. GARBAGE. Did you see what happened in less than 48 hours by ONE user?
