A guy coded html into his posts that overrode certain pages with a popup. He got IP banned and the forums switched to BBcode in posts instead of html. BBcodeis what we’ve been using for years.
I’ll flag your post to see who can see it. Would be interesting to know, so it can be fixed.
Edit, lol - it shows up just like “like agree bla”. TERRIBLE IDEA.
I think “flag” should be replaced by a proper “REPORT” function. And while we’re at it, kick out “off topic” and “agree” as well. Like and Disagree can stay.
That IS the report function. We get a message in our queue when someone flags something in our section. Off topic has its place as well. Once a post gets a certain amount of flags and off-topic posts, it automatically gets buried. Pretty damn useful, if you ask me.
But yeah, everyone being able to see who flagged what is a bad idea, and encourages trolls to retaliate against people. I’ve put in the suggestion to only allow mods, admins, and those who flagged the posts to be able to see what was flagged.
If anything, people should have to buy premium to see who flagged their shit, just like the good ol’ days with neg repping. >:)
I still think it should work like the old reporting feature where you have to provide an actual reason for why you are doing so. So that way it could at least be manually investigated and a stupid reason for reporting could result in punishment for the reporter. The only reason I think this is because people call foul on shit simply because they can. Like look at probably the first 2 pages of this thread (it might also be the “official complain about the new layout” thread). That one guy marked EVERY post as off-topic.
For this next section, I am assuming that burying a post, means that it gets deleted. Please tell me if this is not the case
Then there is what Duckie just said “It can be AUTOMATICALLY buried”. Meaning that no one actually has to look into it. I imagine people would abuse this to shove unliked opinions out of a thread, no matter how well structured or supported they are. Like for instance if someone went into the DMC thread and somehow managed to give a very well thought out opinion on why all the devil may cry games are bad. Probably most people in there would flag it knowing the site would automatically boot it out for them after a set amount of flags.
And frankly, I’m happy that there isn’t a box to explain why a post got reported. I love you guys and all, but some of you came up with some REALLY shitty reasons for why you reported posts… when it all comes down to it, it’s all either abusive posts, trolling, off-topic, or spam anyway.
I know people like to complain. Hell, I’m about the most change averse guy there is. But since the move I have yet to experience a timeout or a double post. The boards are being hosted by vanillaforums.com now (CNAME for shoryuken.vanillaforums.com) so there’s a good chance they will remain stable.
Hey, and you know what? That’s awesome that they’re hosted on servers that can handle the traffic. My issue is that the forum software that is being hosted on those servers is incredibly poor. Especially considering that there has been minimal customization to differentiate this forum from any other VanillaForum.
You know, I’m willing to bet that if time was taken to actually customize (and test) this place, we wouldn’t even complain. As it stands, we’re complaining.
*Edit: As an example, look at this forum. SRK could be good on this software if they cared about what is good, and not just throwing ads everywhere.
Thanks Duckie, should hopefully cut down on some of the noise.
Now, forgive me if this is in the faq, I just now heard about it, but how can you get rid of the forum auto saving your comment if you decide not to post something? It’s an interesting feature, but I’ve typed things in this box a couple of times, then changed my mind on making a post, and even if I delete it all it’s all still there when I go back in the thread.
*Edit-just went in the faq, it’s mentioned there. Would be nice if there was a better way to handle it though.
