Now for Backwards compatibility?
That is a Negative for both the PS4 and the Xbone.
Why?
The PS4 and Xbox One are both using custom AMD APU processors instead of their IBM made Power PC processors.
Meaning the new processors can not and will not understand programming instructions meant for the Power PC processor.
Oh I know. But from my understanding they announced they would be porting over a large amount of PS3 games using a streaming system using the proper processors from their own server center as part of the PS4’s functionality. I’ll need to double check that.
Also, had I known about this thread before hand, I wouldn’t have. Usually I do far more research before a purchase but I underestimated how much there is to consider on fight sticks. So, shows me for jumping on something.
Alright so I hate to be back so soon but after reading another ten pages of this thread to try to catch up more modern talk of sticks, I noticed a post saying that there was no point in waiting for the ps4/xboxone for lack of games, which makes sense. So now, looking at the list on the first page, and then the mad catz store and amazon, I noticed something that is bothering me.
Street Fighter X Tekken Fight Stick Pro (PS3/Xbox 360)
Completely different body style from the TE series. The Guide area is moved to the right side of the arcade stick, and the Fight stick Pro is wider.
Quality: Compatible to the TE-S Arcade sticks, Stock sticks are Full Sanwa
Sturdier frame in the main body
Reliability: Better PCB that the TE family
Ease of Mods: Difficulty 1/2 (odd PCB placement compared to the TE).
But any reference to this stick I find has it around 99$ compared to the 129$ of the one I linked. Any attempts to google the linked one, comes up almost blank or references a soul caliber/xtekken version. So I am a bit lost because either I am going insane or this stick is apparently popular, but at the same time an enigma.
I mainly just am trying to find the reason for the price difference and if it is a good stick to get for my PC/Xbox360 with little modding necessary(I am a bit new so I would prefer to not have to replace the buttons/stick, though I may replace the stick or cover(I heard this is moderately easy to do) if I get gutsy enough since I don’t care for the ball tops, I think the ones I like are referred to as bat tops? the xarcade comes stock with the head I am referring too. Unless there is some advantage to the ball stick.)
Reading the specs it has the parts that most the sticks that were considered good quality have, but I wanted to double check I wasn’t missing something about the versions.
Ask away! This is a thread for people to get info on buying sticks. None of us want someone to get something they won’t enjoy for a long time. This is what most people refer to when they talk about the MadCatz “Pro” Fightsticks: http://www.amazon.com/Mad-Catz-Street-Fighter-Tekken-FightStick/dp/B0072A4KYI/. It was the first model they made and was branded with SFxT art. The one you linked is still a Pro Fightstick, but it just has different artwork. There is no difference between the Pro Fightstick that you linked and the one that I linked (including the Line and Cross versions) except for the artwork. There is also the Street Fighter X Sanrio stick made in the same style.
The “Pro” Fightsticks are just an alternative to the TE (Tournament Edition stick). Some prefer the Pro sticks but I think most (including me) prefer the Tournament Edition line of sticks. There’s not a major difference between the Pro sticks and the newer TEs besides the aesthetics (although note that the newer TEs and Pro fightsticks have an improved PCB over older models). The Pro sticks look more plasticky and cheaper while the TEs look sturdy. The Pro sticks feel lighter to me, but I’m not sure if that’s a fact or not.
I believe the SFxT Pro fightstick is no longer sold by the MadCatz store nor is it sold directly from Amazon.com (only 3rd party sellers have it). That’s probably why you are having a hard time finding it. MadCatz just stop producing them and they’ve run out of available stock.
There is no modding necessary with either the TEs or the Pro fightsticks. They both come with sturdy, reliable arcade quality parts. You can change the buttons and balltop very easily if you would prefer other colors or want a battop. The 360 version of either stick will work natively with almost all PCs. The Pro and TE Fightsticks are great sticks for beginners and advanced players. They will last a long time and are easily customizable but definitely can be played with stock parts.
@PlayDoh003: So after 2 months of testing I finally rearranged the button layout for my PS3 SC-V Madcatz stick. It took me about 20 min, because I had to mark the wires to make sure, that everything will be correct. Now the circle,R1 and L2 button got the default position for my Tekken matches. No longer entering options menu for that stuff, which is good for my nerves. But the wiring was a a little bit messy and the wires themself were pretty stiff in my opinion. Some pins of the switches were twisted by default, so I had to fix them. Maybe this was the reason for the low price.
I also read in one of your posts, that the SC-V Madcatz (Xbox-360 version) is easier to mod.
Yes, the 360 version is easier to dual-mod… And solderlessly, using a PhreakMods Cerberus, which I highly recommend. As Darksakul said, any 360 stick is easier to dual mod, given that there aren’t any similar solutions for PS3 sticks short of a full PCB replacement (like the PS360+).
Other than that, the SCV, like all TE based Mad Catz sticks will accept any TE or TE-S based body components, such as bezels, side plates, and plexi/art (for the Noir layout), in bezeled or full face format. Given all of the sticks released in this format, there are probably more modding options for Mad Catz TE-based sticks than any other commercial stick body out there.
Oh you rearranged them that way? I usually just take the QDs off the buttons and rearrange them accordingly. Anyway, weird that you have orange wires. Most of my sticks usually do, but these sticks were like a lighter shade of red lol.
No, the connections are labeled on the distribution block’s PCB. I replaced my buttons with Seimitsus, so I changed the artwork and labeled it with the typical MS button layout… I just reconnected the wires onto the buttons accordingly to match the layout I labeled on the artwork.
Sorry I wasn’t clear and I misunderstood what you posted anyway. What I meant to say was, I thought you had changed the QDs on the distro block, not the buttons themselves.
No, that’s cool… Yeah, of course I disconnected the wires from the buttons - doing it the other way around would’ve been crazy!
Anyway, I posted the wiring schematic for anyone else with this stick to save time. If MCZ isn’t consistent in how they wire their sticks though (especially the same model) that would be weird… :?
Hey guys, I was doing some shopping around and I found 2 particular sticks that were seemingly pretty good and high quality for the price. Madcatz SCV Soul edition or Fightstick PRO with Cross tekken artwork.
Amazon has the SCV for 99 shipped and the Pro is like, 199 or something outrageous. But store.gameshark has them both for 99 plus shiping.
So were looking at 99 shipped for the SCV and 99 plus shipping for the Pro.
Side note why would one place have the Pro for so much cheaper than the other?
I never played a fightstick before so I dont think the vewlix or noir layout will matter either way. Im not head over heels with either of the artworks, so that could go either way also. I do tend to lean towoards heavier devices, but if its relitavly close I could go either way. So my question is in terms of quality and preformance (not button layout) of the above 2 sticks which should I go with? I finally have some expendable money so Im very anxious to get my order in asap lol.
The SCV Soul Edition is pretty much your standard Tournament Edition stick. The SFxT Fightstick Pro is part of the Pro line of sticks. The TEs and Pros are pretty much the same aside from aesthetics (i.e. how the case looks). There were issues with older TEs and certain mobos, but those issues have largely been resolved in newer TE PCBs.
For the price question, it’s $200 on Amazon because it’s not sold by Amazon. It’s sold by a 3rd party seller who sets their own prices which may be much higher than MSRP.
For preference, it all comes down to each person’s individual choice. I personally prefer the SCV stick much more than the SFxT Pro stick and this is coming from someone who originally hated the SCV stick when I first saw pics of it. The TEs have a much more compact and sturdy feel. I don’t know if they’re actually heavier than the Pro sticks, but they feel that way. The Pro sticks feel and look too plasticky while the TEs look like they can handle more damage. That being said, those are mostly cosmetic issues. If you don’t care how the stick looks then it’s really just a coin flip. They both have the same arcade quality parts and so will have equal quality and performance.
For Noir vs Vewlix, this is also player preference. Although Vewlix is far more common on sticks, I always tell first time stick buyers that unless they grew up on one particular arcade cabinet, using the other won’t make a difference. The Vewlix style does have the advantage of offering the American style straight six button layout as its last six buttons, but over my many years of competitive fighting games, I can count on one hand the number of people I know that use only the last six. The Namco Noir (I believe) is supposed to be more ergonomic with its curved layout. Either way, I own and have owned dozens of sticks. Switching between Vewlix and Noir MIGHT take like 30 seconds to get used to, but very few people have trouble adjusting to one from the other. Thus, it’s not really that significant of a difference.
Awesome, I guess Ill just go with the SCV as I actually do play it unlike Xtekken. I was thinking that the transparent parts on the SCV would look cheap but if thats not the case, all the better lol. I got a TE-S back when I had a PS3, but got rid of the PS3 a week or so later so got no chance to use it. Its still sitting in its box actually lol. Im so excited to get a stick for my 360.
the noir isn’t that different form the vewlix. it was also posted earlier. i’ve used both, and i acn say that i do really prefer the noir since the distance between stick and buttons
