Isn’t every single xbox stick PC compatible? Because it registers as an xbox pad?
Yes (at least for officially licensed controllers), BUT - depending on your version of Windows, some people have problems detecting and installing the XBox 360 Controller for Windows driver… It seems like Windows 7 (x64 version) has the most issues based on what I’ve seen posted here.
I personally have had no problems with 2 machines running Windows 8 Pro. With my MacBook Pro running Windows 7 via BootCamp, I had to do a little finagling with the driver install before it recognized my Mad Catz SCV stick.
so,
i just recently purchased a Logitech GX2D11
i had been eyeing these for a LONG time, but never made the purchase. i found a great conditioned one at a game shop near by.
basically, i want to know if anybody ever had responsiveness issues with the controller.
when i was playing Midnight Club 2, it seems that the acceleration wouldn’t go to its highest potential, despite being in analog mode.
however, when i plugged the receiver into the ps2, put the batteries in the controller, it automatically worked. no need for syncing.
what’s going on?
Hey guys, I’m new to fighting games and I’m thinking of buying a fighstick. I live in Canada so selection is somewhat limited, but I’ve found a couple options.
I’m trying to decide between the Hori Real Arcade Pro VX SA “Kai” or the Mad Catz SFxT Fightstick PRO.
It seems they are both pretty similar, but I’ve heard the Hori is unusually wide and some people find that uncomfortable. I have smaller hands so I doubt I would benefit from the increased space, but perhaps it’s more comfortable (I really have no way of knowing).
My only concern about the Mad Catz one is that I don’t like the artwork. Is it fairly simple to swap that out for something different?
Another option would be the new Mad Catz Arcade Fightstick PRO, which appears to be identical to the SFxT version, but with a boring neutral artwork (and a higher price tag).
The only game I play currently is Skullgirls (PC version), but I may end up wanting to dual mod my stick one day. Are the Xbox versions easier to dual mod?
Thanks for the help.
Get an XBox360 stick if you plan on dual modding. It’s much easier to add PS3 support to an XBox360 stick than vice-versa. I personally like the PhreakMods Cerberus for dual-modding, which is a solderless install on any Mad Catz stick.that employs the TE-S board (the Pro is among them). Of course, that’s assuming that you are not squeamish about cutting the USB cord as per the install instructions.
It costs a little more, but you might want to consider a MadCatz SCV stick from the Canadian GameShark Store… That is, if you don’t mind the Noir layout. They also have the generic FightStick Pro, but it costs about $30 more than what Amazon.ca is selling the SFxT Pro for… That’s where you were looking, am I right?!
im pretty sure amazon ships them in canada for $99 and free shipping?
The cheapest tourney stick from Amazon Canada is the HRAP V3/Vx SA Kai because it has free shipping.
The Soul Calibur stick is at $98 with $5 shipping from Japan with a possibility of import tax (probably won’t be since only UPS gouges on that, but you could still be slammed with it) which is techincally cheaper than the HRAP but personally I’m a Vewlix layout kind of guy. Although 12-17 business days isn’t bad if you don’t mind the layout, it’ll be a good stick.
I suggest waiting for Black Friday/Cyber Monday where there will likely be a madcatz sale at gamesharkstore.ca
I wouldn’t suggest any stores other than amazon.ca or gamesharkstore.ca because other places will likely gouge you on shipping.
Be cautious and vigilent.
Man, I hope Hori is going to release a new controller for PS4/XBONE soon. I think the Down on my D-pad is starting to go. If I tap it, it sometimes doesn’t register. If I hold down it’s fine.
And of course the controller I use is no longer being made and some douche is charging $110 for it on Ebay.
Is the HRAP VX SA KAI pretty much equivalent to the Mad Catz Arcade Fighstick Pro?
Any reason why I might pick one over the other? It looks like the Hori is 3 cm wider, which probably doesn’t matter at all. At 2.9kg (6.5lbs) it is lighter than the Mad Catz, by a kilogram, which may affect stability. If I were to play with it on my lap doing 360s (or 720s) would I notice any problems? They both have Sanwa parts and neutral stock art (though I prefer Horis artwork). Is the spacing between the joystick and buttons any different? Judging by the picture it looks like everything is more centred on the Hori.
I will probably go for the Hori because amazon is faster and cheaper with the shipping, but I have the weekend to decide. It’s my first fightstick so I want to make the right decision.
You could look up the mad catz soul calibur 5 version. it’s a TE which is easy to mod. it’s a noir layout which means the joystick is a bit futher away from the buttons. it’s also super cheap but it looks like crap, even if @playdoh003 think it looks decent for some reason.
i do know that many prefer the hori. im very happy with my SCV stick though
What’s the general consensus on noir vs vewlix layout? Vewlix seems more popular from what I’ve gathered.
Vewlix is more popular. I think Noir is more ergonomic since it’s curved. Vexlix lets you play American style with the last six buttons being straight though. IMO they’re pretty interchangeable and I don’t personally care if a stick has either although if you grew up in arcades with one particular layout, generally you’ll favor it. It’s pretty easy to adjust between them though.
Vewlix was in the arcades so it’s “legit” as far as some people are concerned.
If you play KoF Vewlix lets you play KoF Arcade style witha rebind.
Honestly? It sucks shit. I live in Ontario, CJ is out in Vancouver which is across the US, if you live farther East than East coast it’ll be even worse. I was asking about Qanba because there was a decent sale during TFC for CJ but the shipping is like $60 to send a stick
to me. So a q4 on sale was about $200-220.
And for any less I would be paying way more than for a Hrap or Pro and not get Sanwa parts.
Total deal breaker.
Edit:
That said CJ is the best way to get a Qanba if you’re in Canada and into that, I know many people swear by them and if you don’t want to crack open a stick to dual-mod it but often go to tournies which have different setups then you can shell out the dosh which could buy you two madcatz pros during a sale and have one stick for both consoles (not bad not bad).
And of course if you’re west coast or breadbasket then CJ might not be too bad.
And of COURSE noir layout is fine even for KoF since tons of people don’t play arcade layout anyways, it’s all preference.
Hey, at least you’re not a pad player (pad players are legitimate too).
What you mean equivalent of? Quality wise? They both have Sanwa parts, both got decent PCBs and are relatively mod friendly.
its like asking what soda do you want, Coca-cola or Pepsi?
I was wondering if anyone has used this stick (Qanba Q2 Glow)?
http://www.eightarc.com/qanba-q2-glow-xbox360/
I used to have an EightArc Fusion and liked it a lot.
I have the following questions:
-
Does anyone have any experience of the Qanba stick and buttons? Are they as reliable as Sanwa?
-
Can this stick be dual modded?
-
How is the faux leather bottom compared to the felt bottom? Is it a good grip?
Sorry if I’m in the wrong thread…I hope not. I don’t post much.
Cheers!
Well, I auctally just picked up one of these sticks yesterday (Qanba Q2 Glow). The stick and buttons are the same that came on the injustice stick I believe and surprisingly they feel pretty decent for knock off parts. IMO the buttons are more similar to seimitsu than sanwa and the stick is less smooth than a jlf and clicker. One thing I noticed is that it has quite a bit of play in the pivot at neutral position in the joystick and the joystick and buttons can be rather “squeaky” at times. As far as reliability goes I really don’t know. This stick and the injustice stick are still pretty new and I haven’t heard of anything going out yet but the sticks with the parts in them are too new to tell yet. I believe that there is a thread on the forums here about the injustice stick (same Qanba parts) that talks about switching out some of the joystick parts out with jlf parts and using sanwa sw-68 microswitches on the Qanba buttons for a better feeling stick. Dual modding isn’t really feasible if you want to keep the stock Qanba led system because the stock qanba pcb has everything on a one pcb solution (including led controller) So if you get rid of the pcb to put in say a ps360+ you will lose the led’s, unless you add another separate pcb solution for led’s like a FGwidet. If you don’t care about the stock led’s though you should be fine with a pcb replacement for dual modding. The faux leather bottom feels fine but IMO I don’t think it is a grippy as the felt on the Eightarc fusion or Qanba Q4raf. Overall it is a very pretty, flashy stick though. (I believe that most of this info I provided is correct but feel free to correct it if it is incorrect )
The Q2 Qanba parts will accept the same mods that the Injustice stick has.
The Push buttons will accept the sw-68 sanwa push button switches, and the joystick will accept a Sanwa shaft, pivot, actuator and spring (don’t forget the sanwa e-clip)
Thanks both of you. This is very helpful. I’ll check out the Injustice Stick thread. Shame about the modding…
Hello,
So I’ve read over the thread a fair bit but didn’t see anything to reference a question I have and I would like your advice.
So I bought an X-Arcade dual fightstick when I first started(back before I knew about this thread) because I found it at fry’s and thought it would be awesome for different consoles and my PC and playing with my friend who was trying to get me into fighting games.
Long story short, having a lot of compatibility issues with computer fighters(KOF three keys don’t work, SF4 have to use other input for menu’s) from what I can tell this is due to X-arcade firmware when I looked up the issue and there is nothing I can really do, along with the downblock failing semifrequently. Along with that, my workplace loves having a little computer setup and using the two fightstick to play on, which I enjoy letting them do, but its a pain to carry it. So I was just going to get a new fightstick to fix most my problems.
I was thinking Mad Catz, and I am mostly a PC gamer, but with the new consoles coming up brings my next question.
I know the XBOX360 Mad catz are suppose to be good for using on PC and other consoles(from what I read) but I am looking at possibly getting a PS4 and with the backwards compatibility, buying Persona 4 Arena and Marvel(if offered on PS3, not sure) but I don’t know if those will be able to play online multiplayer on the PS4 backwards compatibility. Along with that, I don’t know if the PS4 sticks will work with PC’s and when it will come out. Since I can’t play King of Fighters(which I enjoy the most and really want to learn to play, was taught to seriously play fighters on Street fighter, which I still suck at but wish to transfer to King of Fighters).
Do you happen to know if the PS4 version will work with PC’s when mad catz announces them, and would you recommend mad catz or another brand for my purposes?
