Mad Catz TE S +
Easiest to mod/ repair
^ this
I swapped out plunger colors on my SFxT pro. From my experience with the guts of the SFxT pro and seeing pics of the inside of a TE S+, the TE S+ has more space inside the case so it is easier to replace/swap buttons. Also from the pics, the PCB looks easier to mod.
So my Hori FC3 pad just wore out after 4 or so months of heavy use. This is not the first time this has happened but I hoped that it wouldn’t. So, I’m looking for a PS3 fightpad that can last a while. Preferably it would have the same layout as the hori, I’d rather not learn how to use a joystick. Any recommendations?
a Joystick. If you wore out a Hori pad in 4 months, you are going to do the same to just about any other pad.
I currently have a Hori Fight stick V3, i’ve had it since SF4 came out as my beginner stick, but its always felt a bit cheap in build quality. Some of the buttons are overly sensitive, you could brush a feather over them and they’d detect it as being pressed. Others are under responsive.
I was considering upgrading to a better stick, i noticed Madcatz have Street Fighter X Tekken - Arcade FightStick PRO - Cross sticks for $99, and they look like a very sturdy proper arcade stick.
Would it be worth upgrading to one of these from my fight stick? $99 seems really cheap, is the build quality actually better than the stick i currently have?
Cheers.
Yes, any of the Tournament Edition or Pro Fightsticks are much better than the V3. The V3 does not use Sanwa buttons so they’re not as consistent as you would expect from Sanwa (one of the best in the business). Overly sensitive buttons in and of themselves does not necessarily mean that the stick is cheap. You can practically breathe on Sanwa buttons to activate them and they’re the most popular arcade stick buttons out there. If you have the money, I would definitely recommend upgrading from the V3. I would definitely explore your options though since there’s a lot of great sticks out there. Hori, MadCatz, Qanba, and Eightarc (well, reskinned Qanbas) all have great sticks.
Y’know, I had this long post typed up that compared both the HRAP V3 SA Kai and the TE-S+, but it was basically just a bunch of WORDS WORDS WORDS that said very little. I’ll sum it up like so:
Do you want the familiar Taito Vewlix button layout (if a bit modified, regarding joystick lever and button spacing), L3 and R3 buttons, and a bunch of toggle switches? Get the V3 SA Kai.
Do you want a familiar body style for your stick, more room to put your favorite vidya character’s glutes on your stick’s face for everyone to see, and an easier time modding your arcade stick? Get the TE-S+.
The short answer? Yes.
The long answer? YES! YES! YES!
Regarding the Pro’s body, though, I’ve heard a couple of people say that they felt the case was flimsier than Mad Catz’s older TE body. Now, I can’t verify their claims, as I grabbed the Soul Calibur V TE over it, but I want to say that it’s of little consequence. It’s still a bulky stick, and it’s still got those arcade-quality Sanwa parts. It’ll hold up, as long as you don’t drop it, throw it, or use it as a makeshift bludgeoning implement.
I don’t like the Pro that much. Just feels cheaper than the older TEs. Some people like the Pros though and they’re still quality sticks.
Can anyone here confirm for me if the Hori RAP V3 SA Kai ps3 version works with ps2 game on ps3 backwards compatibility hardware ?. What arcade stick would you guy recommend me to get really interested in modding it with dual mod
Thx for everyone’s help! My SFxTekken Madcatz cross pro stick arrived today.
Hello guys! I got tired of replacing my pads after a few months (madcatz fightpads and Hori fighting commanders constantly break) and i am looking for a stick. The cheapest sanwa equiped stick i could find (money is an issue) is the SFxTekken Pro on amazon.co.uk. The thing is, i am a pc gamer but a friend of mine also has a ps3 so i play SF on both platforms. Will the ps3 version of this stick work without issues on any PC (are the TE2 compatibility problems over)?
My Working List of PS2 compatible PS3 controllers
For Dual-Modding purposes get a Xbox 360 stick. All the toodles boards and the Cerberus used for the PS3 side of dual mods all work with PS2 games.
The Hori Real Arcade Pro V3 SA Kai is more than capable of being modified but it is a cramp fit. Mad Catz TE arcade sticks are the most Mod friendly and has the most mod options.
Thanks for the info and help Darksakul. Just went and pick up a Hori Real Arcade Pro V3 SA Kai its an upgrade from my v3 SA, i think i ll hold off on the dual modding for now.
thanks for the help people. I also decided to get a sfxt pro stick, i’ll comment on it when it arrives compared to my current arcade stick.
Made a Entry for the Injustice Stick.
I will need someone with the Xbox 360 version of the stick to let me know if the PCB is common ground or not.
I was wondering, I am currently using the WWE brawl stick ( this one )
And I’ve been thinking about buying one of the SFxT sticks. My main question was, is the difference really noticeable? I’m about an average Street fighter IV player (below average maybe) and I just picked up KoF XIII. Does it really play better, or is it just a little bit nicer? (I’m not expecting my skill level to drastically get better, that’s not what I mean )
And then a sub-question : How much better is the V.S edition than the pro edition? I read the first page but they are about 30 euro’s more expensive here, so is that worth it? (p.s : I can’t mod at all so I’m not really looking for that)
Thanks in advance, and I’m sorry if the post is too long!
The Parts alone the joystick lever and the buttons are better made, and the stick body has more weight to it.
Hello, I’ve read this thread, and the newbie stick thread, but still have some questions so figured I’d ask.
I mainly play BlazBlue, but I also play a bit of everything else (MK, DOA 5, PS All-Star) - on the PS3, my main console, and most of these games also on my Vita. I play SFxTekken on the computer and SC4 on my baby brother’s X360, but I’m looking to buy my first arcade stick.
I should also get Persona 4 Arena when it releases for Europe in a couple of weeks.
So, how would you guys say the following two sticks match up to one another, assuming both cost the same (as they do on Amazon.com)?
Mad Catz SoulCalibur V Arcade FightStick SOUL Edition
Mad Catz Street Fighter X Tekken - Arcade FightStick PRO
How would you say the two hold up, if you only get one?
I heard the SC one is more cramped within, but I don’t really plan to mod them much, so it’s more an issue in case something breaks and I need to switch it.
Now, the last time I’ve played with an Arcade Stick is probably on an actual quarter arcade machine, about 17 or so years back, so I don’t really know what will be more comfortable to me, but the Namco Noir setup seems a lot more comfortable to me, and moreover, the stick location - to me, from theory-crafting where things should go, the extra distance between the stick and the buttons seems like it’d add quite a bit of comfort (I have relatively large hands) - what are your opinions on the matter?
However, I don’t live in the USA, so shipping costs are a consideration.
My three options and the USD equivalent costs are:
Madcatz WWE Brawlstick - $84, for modding into an actual stick, I feel with the cost of the higher tier sticks in comparison this option really isn’t worth it.
Mad Catz Street Fighter X Tekken - Arcade FightStick PRO - $107 (this is with shipping).
Mad Catz SoulCalibur V Arcade FightStick SOUL Edition - $160.
I feel the SC stick is better for me due to the Namco Noir and the extra distance between the stick and the buttons, but since I hadn’t really had a chance to play with a stick I’m asking for opinions on the matter, and well, the price difference between it and the SFxT stick is not inconsiderable.
Advise me, comrades
Where do you live?
While I personally prefer the SCV stick over the SFxT stick, the difference isn’t worth $50+ dollars.
Israel.
The options are order through a deputy service from the USA, or cheaper - order through amazon.co.uk, which surprisingly is willing to ship these to Israel, and for relatively cheap.
