BTW, maybe the “Conclusions” chapter could have a section for $150-200 sticks in case you don’t plan to mod? Or they’re all equivalent in that case?
I think they didn’t make a session for that because once you are talking about major brand full Sanwa or Seimitsu you can’t go wrong anymore. It becomes a taste thing, if you prefer your star button here or there, if you like the aesthetics etc… Just get what you like, or what seems appealing.
I bought my Madcatz Soul Calibur V sticks just because they were dirt cheap. But now looking back I’m really glad I did, cause i really really love the Namco layout. Although the Hori SCV have the same layout. So that would probably have worked too.
Get the point?
Yeah, but at some point it got hard to tell apart TE, TE S, TE S+, and the equivalent but slightly better than one but not the other, for Mad Catz, say.
Also, obviously, all bets are off once you’re willing to mod - for instance, I can get SCV for $160 or SFxT for $100, I’m sure for $60 I can get the plexi I need to have the SFxT look like the SCV stick - but I’d rather not, and I heard the insides aren’t exactly the same - is there a serious difference in the innards?
Etc. Even after you read all the post information, and there’s a lot of information there, a conclusion is nice - if these sticks were 100% interchangeable it’d be a non-issue, but there are differences.
Only Darksakul can answer his own opinion on the matter. But I believe there is no possible universal conclusion to the matter. As I just said, you can’t do wrong buying either stick. Just for you to have an Idea, Daigo Umehara uses the SFxT stick because he likes the design. He could obviously choose any Madcatz stick he wants. He can NOT chose anything else. It gets to a point where you have to choose yourself what to buy based on all the infos given.
But for 60 dollars difference i would probably go for the SFxT. Specially if I had no preference for the Namco Noir layout.
If you never played on any of these sticks you can’t really know what you prefer…
Tough choice, there is no Right Decision between the Soul Calibur V stick and the Street Fighter X Tekken Stick.
It boils down to personal aesthetics and budget. And which of those two are more valuable to you, your own personal aesthetics or your wallet.
The Soul Calibur V Soul Edition stick is essentially a rebranded TE-S. If you going to mod it later on the TE/TE-S is the best to mod as per modding options available, but that is only if the ability to mod the stick is valuable to you.
I believe Daigo Umehara’s only real preference is a stick to be Full Sanwa because that is what he used to playing with (from what I remember in an interview). Yes Daigo plays with a SFxT stick, but I believe it was given to him by Mad Catz when they are still testing out the sticks final design and they want Daigo’s input. Prior to that I believe Diago played with a older Hori Real Arcade Pro 2 or 3 (I forgot which) thats modded to be/or came as full Sanwa.
Arcadeshock has a promo running until the end of today. 10% off with the NCR2013 code. Thinking about the PS3/360/PC Qanba Q4 RAF Black. It is $150 shipped. I’ve been wanting a stick that can play on all systems. Is this a good price considering the occasional reports of bad buttons on the Q4?
Are you talking about this stick?
http://www.arcadeshock.com/items/qanba-professional-joysticks/qanba-q4-raf-xbox360-ps3-pc-3-in1-joystick-q4-3in1-detail.htm
It has all Sanwa parts except for that little START button. Sanwa parts are the standard in authentic arcade parts. The Start button is the only issue and that can be swapped out for something else.
And if you really do not like Sanwa Buttons you can swap them out for other ones, for $40 more you can get your Q4 RAF as full Seimitsu.
It is the Older pre-Q3 Qanba sticks, the Newer Q1 and the parts in PDP’s Injustice Stick (they used Qanba made parts) that got the sucky buttons.
$150 for a Qanba Q4 RAF with an additional 10% off I say its worth it
I should of worded my post better. It is a grand total of $150 with the promo code applied.
Woah, I take an hour to research sticks before buying my first and am rewarded with learning about a promo for one of them ^ ^
I’m deciding between two sticks someone already asked about on this page: the Hori Real Arcade Pro Sa Kai (PS3_ and the Qanba Q4 RAF. I understand that the Qanba is more reported to have issues, but I like the idea of something guaranteed to work universally. Were I to get the HRAP Sa Kai I’d be at the mercy of a converter for tournaments on the 360 so I’d like to know if anyone knows what works better, the Qanba with its general flaws or a HRAP Sa Kai PS3 converted into a 360 by like, a Mayflash or something?
Lets see
$149.99 for the Q4
- 12% for the Promo code (the website said 12% not 10)
12% of 149.99 is 17.99
plus $18.00 for shipping
So 149.99 - 17.99 = 132. 132.00 + 18.00 = 150.00
Yeah I was not factoring your shipping cost, assuming you live in the continental US.
Still the price is worth it
Well, went with the Soul Calibur Soul, let’s hope all goes well (after factoring in that one side’s costs include customs and the other side could still get slapped with them, I just went with it.)
Thanks for the input guys.
Two questions:
- I’m looking for a inexpensive dualmodded stick that is high quality at the lowest price. The only ones I know of after skimming everything is the Qanba’s/eightarc’s, and I was also looking at the Omni from Etokki. The Omni is expensive but i like that its a little smaller, and the Qanba’s are nice and inexpensive, but dont look very cool and are large. Any other places I should check out?
2)My friend plays on a pad and is fond of the SFxT fight pad from Madcatz but owns like 4 of them because they break so easy. Are their high quality fight pads in that style anywhere?
Thanks for your help!
It’s a long read, but the following topic has been discussing pads right now:
Haven’t used any of the new Madcatz controllers but that’s sad to hear the new versions aren’t as good. I remember liking the old Blanka one I had
Then again I’ve had significant issues with several new (official) colored Sony DS3 controllers (the ones that come with a game) too. The direction pads on them are terrible compared to the original DS3’s that I got with my fat and slim PS3’s as well as the separately sold (older) black DS3’s. Which is really why I moved back to usi…
Long story short, there are no really good (reliable and inexpensive) pads in production right now. A cost effective solution is a Sega Saturn pad with an usb adapter. (the Sega Saturn pad is actually what the madcatz SFxT pads are based on)
On the stick side I can only say that I have a Q4Raf and find it to be a good stick. But I don’t know any alternatives for it. Be aware that this Omni stick is said to be even heavier, and is actually not that much smaller than the Qanba.
If you don’t really need the dual mod it might be a good idea to look at the the Horis and MCZ. I feel that my Madcatz stick is more reliable than the Qanba, although construction of the Qanba is really high quality too.
If the SFxT fight pads break easy, how are the older SFIV pads? I’m very new to fighting games and I’m looking for a controller/fight pad that’s inexpensive and reliable.
You know what? I’m starting to think that for fighting games in the long run the cheapest alternative is actually a good arcade stick. One used or a promo will go for 60-80 dollars. And it will last you 10x longer than any modern pad… Not to mention they are generally better… But if it has to be a pad, than I’m unsure what to say… I’m looking for some solution myself, but it’s quite hard.
80 dollars might seem a lot, but if you consider how long it lasts, and that you can easily swap parts that are relatively cheap, it’s a lot more value for your money than a pad that will break and become completely useless in one year or so. And unfortunately I haven’t seen new pads that are good and durable for fighting games. For any price.
You can get the Sega Saturn pad, that people say is great. I have a couple ascii playstation fightpads that seem to be durable, but are not that precise. I would say they are fine, but not great. Got them on the cheap though. If you keep an eye out for old stuff like old hori commanders, Saturn pads, you’re eventually going to find something. But i know of nothing you can just get brand new out of a store that’s going to be an optimal solution.
I make the same question myself. Is there anything good in production?
I notice that the start of this thread says that the Qanba Q4 RAF have dropped inputs, but I know lots of people who own them and love them. Have you guys heard that as well? Whats the deal? I was looking at the Fusions or the Q4s.
It also looks like the Q4 Black has the same parts as the Fusions, but is just cheaper because its a little uglier? Is that true?

That info is based off of unofficial reports other modders had at tournaments. A lot of the modders who had these reports comes from what I consider credible sources as I accept their word, but this is soft evidence l not hard evidence. I am also holding Qanba’s grey market status against them.
The issue is Does this represent the majority or a vocal minority. Airing on the side of caution I decide to put it as part of the review.
Is dropped input like a buton press that does not register? I might try again to see, but I also have the impression that sometimes the input on the qanba might show some problem. The reason I say that is that my execution is more solid on the madcatz. But as Darksakul said, that is very subjective. It might be ergonomics… Is there an easy way to test for input drops?
Are we sure that the people testing the Qanbas weren’t playing Marvel on the PS3?

Don’t be silly.
Everyone already knows that the PS3 has no games.
