What Stick/Controller Should I Buy? Read the Guide on Pg 1 Before Posting

With few exceptions like some madcatz sticks, PS3 sticks are PC compatible.
Just about all of Hori sticks are PC compatible. Qanba claiming PC compatibility is more of a marketing gimmick as both PS3 and Xbox 360 sticks are PC compatible.

Also if you don’t use the stick on the PC it doesn’t matter.

I rather have the option of playing on the PC because it has better online.
Anyway which one do you think I should get?

Since the difference in the two sticks is about $30, in terms of quality wise, which would be the better stick in the long run, HRAP v3sa or Qanba Q4, sorry i keep asking it’s because it’s going to be my first stick and i dont want to make the wrong choice.

I forgot to ask what is the difference between the HRAP v3 and the kai?

@loleyebrows
I say the Hori Real Arcade Pro V3 SA is better built electronically than the Qanba Q4. I hearing more reports of issues with Qanba than the new Hrap sticks.

The Hrap V3 SA and the The Hrap V3 SA KAI? The KAI is the newer version of the V3 SA with an improved PCB.

@Banglev
If you are avoiding the tax and the freight/shipping cost and such get the cheaper of the 2 sticks.

If I’m right, after reading many posts, both the HRAP Kai and Qanba Q4 use the exact same sanwa buttons and sanwa stick right?

Besides the start button, the qanba q4 is all sanwa.

Yes they are both full Sanwa, except the start button of the Qanba which is a el-cheapo knock off.

  1. I’m deciding between the Xbox 360 Madcatz Soul Caliber V stick and the SFxTekken stick. Description of both was detailed, but this will be my first fight stick. They are the same price currently, any advice? PC compatability is a must, since that is what I would mainly use the stick for.

  2. Any reason that overall Sanwa part using Hori sticks are substantially more expensive than Madcatz ones? Is it shipping costs (from Japanese factories) or is it reputation?

I’ve been looking for my first fightstick, and since I was going to buy Injustice anyways, I decided to pre-order the battle stick edition. Problem is:

*Good morning, I need to address the Injustice fight stick because I am getting several questions daily about it. This is an attempt to stop that, but we shall see.

The stick is OEM, which means Original Equipment Manufacturer. This means that WB outright bought the sticks from us and typically once that happens we aren’t allowed to say anything about them. However, WB/Nether realm was nice enough to let us say that we were the ones producing it. We have had several emails in to WB asking if we are allowed to release anymore information on the stick: Buttons, specs, etc, etc and so far we haven’t heard anything back.

My best guess is that we wont be able to release anymore information on the stick and I am very sorry about that. I know you tournament guys really want to know and I think you need to know, but I need to get the go ahead from them. At this time there is nothing more I can say about the stick and I know this doesn’t help or answer any of your questions, for that I am truly sorry.

  1. Should I trust them? Are they known for producing good sticks?

  2. Will it be easier, and less costly, to get new parts and custom artwork if I just get a madcatz TE?

  3. Even though I’ll be playing Injustice, I’ll be playing mostly “anime” games and SSFIV. Will it be awkward to use a teardrop joystick?

Most likely because MadCatz sells more and can afford to lower their markup. Also, they have more Sanwa equipped sticks on the market, so some models are likely priced lower so they won’t conflict with each other.

I got a friend who ordered this stick and he gave me permission to poke around inside. I will let the community know my findings soon as I can.

PDP’s other sticks were the Mortal Combat Tournament Stick and the Mortal Kombat Klassic Stick.
Problem is the MK sticks are a different beast from the newer Injustice Stick.

The MK stick was Happ parts in a wooded constructed box, The Injustice stick appears to be Japanese style in a plastic housing.

If you are worried about the cost or ease of Modding get the Mad Catz, the PDP Injustice Stick is more of a collectors item.

Regarding the SCV TE and the FS Pro, it depends on if you want your joystick lever / buttons spaced further apart (SCV TE’s Namco Noir layout vs. the Pro’s “standardized” Taito Vewlix layout), or if you want a more unified stock button layout (you won’t have to futz around in the options menu as much with the Pro for games like KOF, Skullgirls, AE, etc.; vs. the SCV TE). I personally own a SCV TE, and I’m really liking the Noir layout over the tried-and-true Vewlix layout, as seen on… well, most of Mad Catz’s arcade sticks since 2009 or so. Windows PC compatibility is a no-brainer for either stick, though; I personally use my TE for Castle Crashers on Steam, as well as the occasional vidya on MAME.

As for the price of Hori’s arcade sticks versus Mad Catz’s products, well, IIRC, a lot of Mad Catz’s stuff is on sale. They usually retail for $150-$160 USD. I dunno if Amazon decided to permanently drop the price of those sticks to move stock, though, to be honest. Just thinking aloud, I guess.

Thanks for the info! The only arcade layout I’m familiar with is the American one, so both would be new to me (though an arcade I went to recently had the viewlix layouts). I guess I’ll have to research both layouts, see what the general consensus is. I would probably use my fingers for the top row and the thumb for the bottom row (at least that is what I have been doing at arcades).

You probably want this link then, goes through most common arcade stick / button layouts along with the distance between stick / buttons:

I’ve been using the PS3 SFxT Pro for a few weeks now. I’m totally happy with it. I popped the case open to swap out the black balltop for a red one. I also replaced the plungers with colors that correspond to the NEO GEO MVS A B C D buttons since I play KoF.

The inside of the case is a bit cramped so it wasn’t super easy to push the buttons out of the case. Still very doable though. If I had disconnected them it might have been easier but I didn’t feel like labeling my wires.

I have no interest in the actual SFxT game so I am going to try my hand at modding the artwork with plexi from tek-innovations. The stick has served me well so far though!

I’m thinking about doing a PCB mod at some point it time so I can use it with my PC for MAME and Xbox so I can use any station at tournaments.

Thx for the link! I already checked that out before I posted, I didn’t know there were so many button layout possabilities.

Nice to hear such a positive response to SFxT stick. I’m leaning towards it as of now.

Hi, I’m probably going to buy a SFXT Pro Stick, but I found out that there are two versions of it: Line and Cross. There are any difference between them (beside the artwork)? And there are any notable cons in this stick that I should know? Thanks.

From previous sources I believe they are the exact same stick with different art. My choice boiled down to which stick was cheaper at the time. There was some odd pricing going on at amazon. MadCatz is selling the Line version for 99.99 and so was amazon but the Cross was 105ish. While the 360 versions where both going for 99.99. Just shop around and see which one you can get cheapest+shipping. Amazon was where I got mine since I am an Amazon Prime member so 2 day shipping is free.

I’m going to buy the Cross then, thanks for the answer.

hey guys if you would choose between hrap v3 sa KAI and any madcatz TE sticks, which one would you get? if a madcatz stick which one because i know there are a few. thanks again
