Question regarding a stick for the PS2, are there any good cheap options out there or possible to use a PS3/PS4 Venom stick with an adapter to PS2? (Unlikely but worth a try I guess)
No. Most of the Good sticks have become collector items.
There is no market for a PS3/PS4 to PS2 converter.
You could get a PS2 compatible board and mod a more modern stick. Swap out the circuit board or dual mod it.
Why would you say that?
I got those meaty Gorilla hands.
This, I got no real answer for you. When people don’t reply on Tech Talk they often don’t have an answer for you.
I say it depends on how heavy handed and how rough you are on your sticks. The current stock of the Mad Catz TE2 is fine in terms of build quality.
But if you are concern with durability, you want the New TE-S + (out of your choices) or even getting a Hori Hrap.
Now I find that Sanwa joystick is too loose for me and the buttons too sensitive. I usually swap out the joystick and buttons to Seimitsu parts, I go with the LS-40 or sometimes the now elusive Sanwa JLW.
For buttons I go with the larger switch Seimitsu screw in buttons, that uses a plastic nut to hold them into place rather than just snapping in like Sanwa buttons.

Ah, ok, I assumed no reply=smaller handed players. You’re the man I’m looking for then. Local shop recommended the TE2+ so I pre-ordered that. I’ll have to try swapping parts at some point to see what I like stick/button-wise(I can say I prefer a weighted feeling to the stick). Thank you for the advice!
My TE2+ arrived today instead of Monday and initial impressions are this thing is much nicer than the HRAP4. Heavier, no signs of flex, and everything feels like it’s much higher quality.
The stick has a much firmer spring rate without feeling mushy. The return to neutral seems more crisp than the HRAP. The buttons on the HRAP feel a bit “spongier” as well.
Over my 1st gen TE this is a noticeable improvement. I would say the HRAP has a similar feel to the og TE minus the button and stick quality.
Either way, going to Fry’s on Sunday to return the HRAP.
TE1 and TE2+ use the exact same buttons and stick.
Hey man I am having the same problem. I can’t use a balltop square gate joystick for the life of me. I grew up in the 90’s used to american style arcade sticks or nowadays Korean style arcade sticks. However, I cannot find a Korean stick to buy right out of the box…it’s really frustrating. I checked out Etokki, madcatz, ebay, etc etc etc. I was going to get a TE2+ Mad catz and see if I could swap out the joystick for a battop circular gate but they were old sold out. I ended up getting a HRAP4 Kai for the PS4. The joystick feels good overall. I def don’t like the balltop square gate which I kind of knew from the get go. I’ve tried for awhile to get used to it but it’s just not me. I also find that the HRAP 4 doesn’t have a lot of free space to rest your left hand down to hold the joystick. I also feel having the select button so close to your attack buttons is a very bad idea.
Overall a good starter stick but I would much rather prefer having a HRAP 4 VLX with a battop circular gate joystick…sigh…hopefully someone releases more korean sticks soon. I’m not big on modding, rather just pay someone to do it lol.
The Crown 303-FK or Crown 307 series Korean levers are designed for Japanese mounts. Good options for people wanting something closer to the American feel- different and more precise- but much closer than a Japanese lever IMO.
TE2+ now has dead buttons
So I’m thinking of getting a TE2 for SFV but I got a problem… I’m trying to find the RIVALS fightstick that was released for ULTRA. I’ve found one on eBay, but it’s an auction, and the ones on Amazon are like $500. Does yone know know where I might be able to find one at a decent price? Only reason I want this one specifically is the white case is something I want for a mod.
Haven’t been on this forum in a while but I did want to correct some misinformation I have seen regarding the hrap 4 kai. The newer model I believe it is version.2 although it doesnt say it on the box , does include the hayabusa lever and the hayabusa buttons (it clearly states it on the box aND has an illustration showing the buttons and the new slimmer profile) the stick and buttons have been placed slightly further up on the stick to allow more wrist space. Unless you are over 6ft with large hands you should have ample room. The buttons feel great I usually swap out Santa for seimitsu on my arcade sticks but haven’t felt the need. The best way I could describe them would be that they are closer in feel to Sanwa but with some of the seimitsu feedback. They are quality buttons. Definitely don’t feel mushy as others have put it. I think I still prefer seimitsu but I Def like them better than sanwas
You should try placing a WTB in the trading section to see if someone is willing to sell.
I would say that eBay auction is accurately showing the current value.
I haven’t really looked for sticks since I got mine a while ago that have Sanwa sticks and buttons (HRAP SE and the first Madcatz TE). At the time the Sanwa sticks and buttons were regarded as the best from what I recall except for those with preference to the Seimitsu. Is there a consensus of what are the best nowadays? Would Hayabusa be at the top? What about Kuro buttons?
I’m casual player but I was just wondering if an upgrade would make a difference or if I’m good with what I got.

The Hayabusa stick is excellent. I believe the debate between it and the Sanwa JLF is more about preference than overall quality/effectiveness. As far as buttons, I feel safe saying that most people find the Kuro buttons inferior to Sanwas. The plunger travel is pretty deep and the edges are somewhat sharp…that much is fairly objective. I really love Hori products, and happily switched from the JLF to the Hayabusa stick, but like most people, I just can’t do the Kuro buttons. They throw my timing off, badly…the depth just makes them less responsive. They lack rapidity, for me at least, and I don’t think mine is an unusual opinion.
Thanks for the info I’m very lost when it comes to the technical aspect and from what you said I believe I’m fine with what I got at home. I think I will check one of the other threads about the possibility of customizing one of my sticks to Hayabusa.
hated how noisy the kuro buttons are. couldnt use the Hrap4 kai because of that. they sound flimsy and flappy. Argh - I sent it back and bough the silent version.
The Hayabusa stick on the other hand is top notch. I prefer it over the JLF
Thoughts on this stick?
I have heard about it feeling hollow cause of the switch to open the case. Also, I have read about the annoying screw-in wire. Any problems so far?
it does feel some what hollow. whats the screw-in wire you are talking about

The USB cable is removable and has uses a screw in retention system. Kind of like a coax cable.

I would use your Hori for now and save up a little more to buy a better stick out of the gate such as the Hori PS4 RAP4 Kai for $150. Down the line if you ever want to upgrade the parts of alpha and the Hori mini, you’ll end up paying the same amount to bring it up to that quality (as well as finding the time to mod it). You can probably also find a used PS3 high grade stick for cheap nowadays and use it on SFV with the legacy controller support. Again just my opinion, but I feel like you’ll thank me in the future.
