What Stick/Controller Should I Buy? Read the Guide on Pg 1 Before Posting

sf5 is coming closer and i still cant decide which way to go so lets hear what you folks
would do.

i for myself at home play on a pc but there is a scene which as it seems
use consoles so i either have to buy a stick which is able to perform on pc and ps4
or i just buy one which works on pc but when i go to them i have to use theire sticks.

ps4/pc options would be the

venom stick for 80-100€uro
New Tes+ for 219,99€
madcatz alpha stick 89,99€
Hori Fighting Stick Mini4 80€

or a used x360 te stick for pc only
for 100-140€uro

but i would rely on others to have a stick to play with…

i play on a hitboxstyle stick with sanwa parts in a te stick case right now
but i am open for new brands n stuff.

I’d take my existing arcade stick and either install a Brook PS4 pcb or use a suitable Brook PS4 adapter (easiest option).

that might be true but i want to get a stick anyway to learn how to play with it so thats no option with my hitbox right now.
hmmmm or i could get a 360te stick and a adapter so that way i would be able to use my hitbox too for the case i want to use it too…
eh…another option :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi, I’m new to this forum. Sorry, if this question has already been answered and my search query was not well thought.

What would you recommend if i want to play with a raspberry pi 2 (using recalbox / retropie to play Street Fighter 2 on SNES and some Neo Geo games like Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Last Resort, Viewpoint) and a PS3 (playing Street Fighter 4).

As far as i have read and judging by the pictures, i tend to buy a MadCatz stick (im confused by the abreviations) or build up one of my own.

When it comes to compatibility i have no clue what to google for. For my understanding i have to build “a dual mod” with “a pcb like zero delay, kitten or brook” or get a xbox 360 version for pi and a ps3 version for the ps3.

Thanks in advance
Hannes

A ZD encoder will work with your emulators and the ps3 (note that the pc version of ZD encoder works on ps3 minus the home button, the ps2/ps3/pc mode adds a home buttons), no need to dual mod. Madcatz ps3 sticks newer than the round 2 TE should also work fine on pc formats.

I have the PS2 Zero Delay Encoder(the one with the home button) and have been using it for a while. It’s alright, but I have some issues on Windows 7 64 bit. For whatever reason it would only work sometimes, and even then only with partial functionality. Then it got to where it wouldn’t work at all. I plugged it into a USB hub(not powered) and that seems to have fixed the issues. I read that some other people have had this problem and have solved it by installing a cheap PCI USB card. I don’t know what OS you’d use to run a Rasberry pi, so you might look into that first before making a purchase. I could also have to do with my motherboard or something(MSI Intel LGA 1150).

Thanks for the tip. I understand that ZD stands for Zero Delay and there is only a version using a pcb that i have to build into the stick. No usb adapter that is inserted between ps3 and the stick, right?

I also read about cthulu supporting a lot of systems. Can you please write why you prefer ZD?

Thanks, i’m using a ready to use distribution named recalbox on the pi. This just needs to be copied to the pi, then copy some roms and bios to it and you can start playing. Its linux thats running in the background

So i need a ps3 + linux solution.

Hey, so like most guys with Sf5 dropping, Looking for a stick. For the past 8 years I have been using a modded madcatz se with sanwa parts,

So what I really need is a smallish stick that I could put my parts into easily

Has anyone tried to use the Sega Virtua Stick High Grade on the Street Fighter V Beta? Wondering if I should buy a new stick, or if I can stick to my favorite. Thank you all so much!

Any stick that works on your PC will work on SFV(If you use a simple one time program like x360ce to map the sticks inputs to the game)

Ah! My apologies, I forgot to note in my post that I’m looking at the Playstation 4 version. Thanks so much!

Oh, currently SFV beta on PS4 only works with PS4 sticks, maybe at release they will work with PS3 sticks too like in USFIV but there’s no info about it(also wouldn’t cross my fingers)

Many thanks!!

The ZD board does not require an adapter. The cthulhu is a great product, I only recommend the zd over it in this case because it’s much cheaper, and includes all the cables and wiring you need to install. The MC cthulhu does support a ton of older consoles, but setting it up for them is a much more technical process involving soldering and more parts to buy. A great choice if you want the legacy console support, but not worth the added cost /labor if you don’t intend on using it with older consoles.

Has anyone play tested the madcatz street fighter 5 pad? im a pad player and ive been using just a regular broken in xbox 360 controller for a while now but i need something for ps4 and imo the official pad is fucking awful. i use control stick though so i cant go for a hori as much as i want to, is the new madcatz pad my only reliable option unless i get a converter?

I’ve only heard of people testing those new Mad Catz pads at events saying they love it(but they never mentioned they will choose or use it over whatever pad they are currently using)
Ever tried the Hori FC4 pads? I’ve heard some people like it but in the end it’s all preference. Most people I know use PS1/PS2/PS3 pads

I find the d-pad to the Hori FC4 not to my liking. I tested it out on my PC with NES, SNES and Genesis emulators and I have a hard time executing certain moves.
I can’t do a Hadoken on the d-pad to save my life, but I am fine on a NES, SNES, Genesis, Saturn and even a PS4 D-pad in comparison.
But then again I think the rotatory mechanism on my Hori FC4’s D-pad is busted.

yes, ive tried the hori pads but for some reason i cant do simple motions on a D-Pad. As scrubby as it sounds i have this weird way of holding a control stick like an arcade stick that helps me do motions. ill have to try a ps3 pad, as ive never owned a ps3 ive never tried one before.

I grabbed a Hori FC4 pad over the weekend for SFV. I’m not usually a fan of cross pads for fighting games, but I was surprised that I was immediately playing Ultra SF4 pretty much as well as if I were using a stick right off the bat. I’m very impressed. Holding it in my hand I wouldn’t necessarily say I love it like I love a Saturn pad, but I can’t argue with the results. My only gripe is that it’s a bit too thick to really be comfortable in my small hands. I wonder if the new revision that Play Asia sells would be more comfortable to me.

Hi guys looking to buy a PS4 stick with the release of SFV on the way.

Currently I’m using a Quanba Q1 and I like the form of that but the stick is a little small and id prefer a bigger one to be honest.

This has brought me to the Hori RAP4 Kai and the Hori RAP.V Hayabusa (actually I also really have been liking the Hori Fighting Edge but I don’t think I’d be able to mod that myself) I’ve read that the only differences between both sticks was the spacing of the ball top and the buttons. I was wondering if anyone knew which one would have the same spacing as say my Q1 cause my friend was in town and he brought his Kai stick and it definitely felt odd but I don’t know if that’s cause he preferred the stock buttons while I always use Sanwa or if it was indeed the spacing.

Also I’ve heard rumors that the sticks have apperantly a lag to them, is there any validity to that and if there is how detrimental is it, like is there lag but it’s so minuscule we shouldn’t even worry about?

Anyways any help would be awesome.
