Works or not, us proper Modders get paid.
Laugh.
I just imagined you cosplaying as Balrog saying that.
Really? With the vast majority of Xbox or Dual-Mod sticks involve the Mad Catz 4716 or Mad Catz Fighpad PCB.
More modders would use the Xbox 360 TE PCB is there more available outside of the TE.
So you are telling me Some of the top modders I know are not “proper” modders?
Hey jdm714, b15smd, blind with onearm, Ronin warrior, Gummowned and so on, according to this one dude you all aren’t proper modders since we used Mad Catz PCBs.
The alternatives are a PS360 pcb which who knows when that is available again or a Paewang which is only Available from overseas and the stick is self is more trash than what you consider Mad Catz.
Ok so I made a wrong choice with my words. Madcatz Pcb’s are not trash.
I was just annoyed that for about the 4th different round 1 or round 2 xbox TE I have had the RT and LT buttons cut out. For me this is not acceptable for a premium tournament grade product for RRP of £150.
If I was to get a custom stick from one of those sick stick builders and they said they were going to use R1 or R2 madcatz pcb , I would say no, can you use something else please.
Maybe I have just been unlucky or it might be static building up with where or how I play. I’m not sure. I’m no expert. But when buying a stick consider what I am saying and then your button cuts out. I told you so!
Seems as though you were terribly misfortunate and now you’ve become jaded. I’m not criticizing you though, I would probably be the same if I were in you’re shoes.
Its not that I am defending Mad Catz, it is that you said a “proper modder” wouldn’t touch the stuff. That where the issue got touchy.
As a builder or modder making a stick for a customer/client. We all go where the money is, sadly.
Most the money are in Dual-mod arcade sticks, but there are a degree of technical limitations. For you readers who do not understand Dual-mods go read Dual-Modding 101 for some background information (take note of the number of PS3 PCBs vs Xbox 360 PCBs mentioned).
As most tournaments use PS3 consoles, but many players prefer Xbox 360 consoles there are only 2 solutions. The player would have to buy and maintain 2 different arcade sticks one for each console or have there arcade stick modded with what we call a dual-mod. Dual-mods are the easiest with both boards being common ground. There is alot of good PS3 boards, all easy to use, many made just for custom projects. Our choices in Xbox 360 boards are extremely limited to boards taken from existing controllers with the exception of the PS360 PCB. Which apparently isn’t available at this time.
So take the whole existing stock of XBox 360 Controllers (Sticks and Pads).
Eliminate all the non-common-ground PCBs, you get a very short list of working boards to select on. You got 1 model of Microsoft Xbox 360 controller, Some Hori controllers, the Paewang and Mad Catz (I have yet top see a Common ground PDP/Pelican controller). The most common and easy to access PCB most modders have access to is from Mad Catz when it comes to Xbox 360.
By saying most Proper Modders would touch that trash, I took offense as you just call the vast majority of us trash.
You don’t like Mad Catz because you got faulty TEs that is fine, its your opinion. And if that is how you feel, that you want to avoid more bad experiences, we are behind you on that statement. But please do not go into a thread where we offer help and advice and dictate who is a good modder because we rely on a brand you do not care for.
Hey thanks for writing all that. With the advent of 3S online I was planning on getting my first really heavy dude professional grade big boy stick. Ive been on the fence for them for a long time because even the cheaper ones are pretty pricey (especially if you plan on modding them later) so Ive mostly been torn between picking out one of the bigger sticks witch are pro right out the box or trying to get a SE or something cheaper and modding it.
hahaha when i read his post I was thinking the same thing.
Just my experience…if you don’t have the funds save up some and buy something quality first…dont rush and think it you will be satisfied with a cheaper stick…more than likely modding that cheaper stick will cost you more in the long run…do your homework…realize that regardless of what you buy the moment you open it up to mod you will spend almost double what it is worth once you get done… There are so many amazing things you can do to a stick these days it’s hard to stop at a simple button/joy stick mod…
IIRC PDP’s new fight pad is common ground, but for some technical reason or other, you can’t use it for modding.
Yeah man. I should not of used words like “proper” and “trash”. My mistake. Sorry.
I’m a lurker. I check tech talk everyday but don’t really post.
You guys have great knowledge and are very very helpful at times.
I love the “new arcade stick thread”. I check that everyday.
If anyone is on the fence about getting a stick, just do it. Even if it’s madcatz. End of the day I only love sticks cos madcatz made such a great product to start with. Just a shame with the manufacturing errors with th SE washers and some TE PCB issues.
I got one Hori tekken 6 stick which I modded with sanwa buttons and changed art, but for me it is just way to light and flys around as well as poor battery life, for a one line review.
I got one Chun Li xbox TE-s as well which has never been used. I thought it was too nice for my hands to be all over it.
Does any one know where I can sell it? Is it still worth £150?
Thanks
Hey Noddy
Sorry to hear about your misfortunes of the madcatz sticks. 4 sticks you’ve purchased and they let you down.
I have read many reviews about sticks, and it didnt take long for me to find the problems associated with madcatz pcb’s… very similar to what you’ve mentioned that happened to yours.
Anyways, good luck with your new Qanba.
Im waiting for me Hori’s to arrive. Lets hope our sticks don’t let us down.
I agree with the Tekken stick. I heard nothing but problems with it. I also agree with it being too light as well. But weight is subjective because some people like heavy sticks and some people want there sticks feather light…
As for the Chun Li TE-S, you should be able to get your money back on selling the stick. The Chun Li TE-S is viewed by many as a collectors item (although it really isn’t as it is not that rare). eBay, online classified such as Craigs list or the trading grounds are good places to sell. Keep in mind you need to be a member for 6 months plus 50 post to be eligible to sell on the trading post here.
No need to change your opinion of the Mad Catz brand on my account as I have no brand loyalty.
Hey, my TE arrived today and it’s great! Moves come out with ease. Btw my last stick just so happened to be the Hori Tekken 6 stick and compared to that the Sanwa JLF is a godsend. I can’t begin to tell you how hard srk motions were with the Hori. The buttons are far more responsive too. The Tekken stick is indeed rather poor but I suppose it’s a good beginner stick if you’re a pad player considering a switch over but not quite sure. I was a pad player for a very long time and after playing around with the TE I’m 100% convinced
Just ordered my TE-S white with the CROSSCOUNTER coupon (go mike & gootecks!). gonna be my first stick, can’t wait
thanks for the help everyone ありがとうございます。
how rare are the marvel 3 sticks and how good are they? PCB-wise
the same question applies for the tekken 5 stick (http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/6393/13137159.jpg). also, how easy would it be to mod this tekken 5 stick?
Rare, not at all
PCB - Good. The PCB issues was addressed before MvC 3 was announced
how hard/expensive is it to do a PCB replacement for a SF4 SE stick? i found one in my area for 25 dollars.
PS3 or Xbox 360?
PS3 is easy as you can substitute for a Cthulhu or Dual Strike. Little soldering to do, and what soldering you have to do is well labeled/documented.
Xbox 360, unless you get a paewang or PS360+ you have to cannibalize a Xbox 360 controller
Prices can range from $35 to $55 depending on what PCB you get. Also if you want a dual-mod you need a PS3 and Xbox 360 boards unless you grab a PS360+ or Paewang pcb.
Hello, I am looking to get my first stick and wanted to get a SF4 TE Round 1 Stick for my PS3 (http://store.gameshark.com/viewItem.asp?idProduct=4544&idCategory=203)
But will it eventually have the problems with the PCB?
I was also looking at the SSF4 TE S-Black stick purely for asthetics (http://store.gameshark.com/viewItem.asp?idProduct=4768&idCategory=336)
And was wondering if anyone knows if they will ever have a restock.
Im really just looking for a stick for $150 and under so does anyone have other suggestions?
