So I’ve been getting into Street Fighter lately and I want to invest in a stick. I’m looking to spend about $130, my requirements are Sanwa Parts or easily moddable, sturdy build quality, and I play Balrog so I’m looking for input on if 6 or 8 buttons make a difference and if I should look to use a square or octagonal gate
Most of the Premium sticks come stock with all Sanwa parts.
The Sanwa JLF Joystick comes stock with a square gate. I would not buy a octagon gate… yet.
Sticks that meets your requirements & needs at your budget.
The Mad Catz Fightstick Pro (for PS3 and Xbox 360) is $129.99 (+ S&H)
Also there the Hori Real Arcade Pro. V3 SA & Real Arcade Pro. VX SA for $129.99 (+ S&H)
I play on PC and haven’t the new Hori sticks had problems on PC? Also is that Mad Catz stick anygood? I haven’t heard much about it but what I have has been bad.
About PC compatibility…
Officially from both Hori and Mad Catz, neither company will guarantee PC compatibility for any Arcade sticks that are meant for game consoles.
New PS3 sticks should be using HID class drivers while the Xbox 360 sticks , do not let Windows Auto-Install. Manually install the stick’s drivers using the Microsoft’s drivers for the Microsoft brand Xbox 360 Game Pad drivers.
A work around is to replace the PCB completely, for PC use I recommend Toodles’ PS3/PC version of the Cthulhu.
The madcatz pro is a good stick. Anyone talking bad about madcatz sticks is living in the past. They’ve stepped up their game since SFIV came out.
I just bought the MadCatz MLG TE on the Microsoft store for $110 after tax. Hopefully it works for me :).
I can’t remember if the MLG stick has a TE-S PCB or not. If the stick has the Newer TE-S PCB then the stick should be fine on the PC.
Street Fighter IV SE. $59.99
A basic 8 button arcade stick controller.Quality: Not bad overall, the stick body is nice and sturdy. The Joystick and buttons are clones of Sanwa Parts so actual Sanwa parts are perfect drop in replacements. Earlier releases of the SFIV SE stick have reported issues with the PCB or Printed Circuit board.
Reliability: Except for the above mentioned PCB this stick is not bad. Perfect for a low cost beginner stick.
Ease of Mods: Difficulty 1. Sanwa parts are perfect drop in replacements and Seimitsu parts would also work well. PCB replacement is do-able because of the space underneath . Only replacement art is for the top panel is difficult to replace due to the bent int he angle of the top panel, plexy is not an option here.
Anyone know a link to one of these? Couldn’t find one anywhere.
The SE is discontinued
Aww…
The SE form factor is still available in the Korean Edition.
Or you can get a WWE Brawl Stick.
Hey, I was looking to pick up a couple PS3 sticks but I’m out of the loop for mods… is there any recommendation for easy to mod sticks for 360 compatibility? Does any PS3 stick work on PS4 now with mods? (The PS3/PS4 stick compatibility seems to imply that’s not possible right now though) Thanks!
The easiest things to dualmod are 360 sticks, so if you want dual mods pickup 360 sticks and then dual mod.
Currently nothing works on the ps4 short of a dual shock 4.

It’s easier to pick up xbox360 sticks and mod it for dual-mod functionality on both xbox360 and ps3. The reason being is that xbox PCB is still required to bypass certain protocols, whereas PS3 doesn’t require this. It basically means you can buy a $30 Cthulu board, pair it together with the xbox pcb, and get a dual-mod. It’s a very solid and popular option.
You can also purchase a PS360+, which can work on xbox, pc, and ps3, and doesn’t require another PCB. It costs $60 though, so it is a bit of a premium extra, but it also allows you to use it on ps2s and dreamcasts with the right cable. And you can update it’s firmware via USB. Very nice functions for the cost.
Currently no mods work with ps4. With a lot of money and a lot of labor, you can dual mod it for xbones. It’ll most likely take quite a bit of time for the aftermarket companies to figure out how to mod it for new gen systems, if it’s even possible at all without first-part hardware.
Thanks for your answers 360 it is then!
It would be a dreamlike if pads had joysticks with angles like the Gamecube controller’s. I’d pay good money for a Xbox 360 pad with a control stick like that.
Hi I’m looking for an at least decent stick for the 360 that works for any of these games (if they can support a stick at all):
Darkstalkers Ressurection
Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition
Street Fighter 3rd Strike Online Edition
Skullgirls
Marvel vs Capcom Origins
Marvel vs Capcom 2
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
Street Fighter X Tekken
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix
Anything less than $100 will do just fine.

you’re lucky. if you look down the first page in tech talk, there’s a sale of high-end madcatz sticsk for $100 (with free shipping i think)
i cant guarantee that it supports them all, but it should atleast
My HRAP EX-SE recently broke (for the second time) and I’m kind of fed up with it. Are there any decent sticks out there using Seimitsu sticks? Bonus points if the buttons mimic the feel of the standard ST cab setup (Astro City?) It doesn’t seem like there are many options though, so I guess I might have to settle with using Sanwa sticks.
