What Stick/Controller Should I Buy? Read the Guide on Pg 1 Before Posting

I’d personally go with the Madcatz stick. I’ve haven’t used either of the sticks you listed, but I think the Madcatz stick is probably higher quality.

I’ve got a Hori UMvC3 stick that is pretty much identical to that HRAP Kai posted above (except the Kai has foam on the bottom I think? someone correct me if I’m wrong), and the plastic used on the surface seems very cheap/flimsy compared to what Madcatz uses. Similarly, I don’t think the home button or turbo buttons are as nice as the Madcatz ones, even on an SE. I don’t think the quality of the art in terms of gloss/feel to the touch is as good either. The primary buttons and the stick on the Hori are all fine though since they’re Sanwa. I think it’s marginally wider than Madcatz as well, but I don’t have them sitting here in front of me. Note that the base of Hori isn’t wider, but plastic on top of the stick extends out beyond the sides of the stick, which you can’t see in that picture above.

My verdict: I’d go with the Madcatz.

Will you use this stick for shmups? If so then the hori’s expanded turbo functions might be of use.

Otherwise they’re basically the same, both are from companies that are industry standard, do you want coke or pepsi? (except in this case they taste the same, unlike IRL where coke > pepsi)

thank you for the replies.
barely play shmups anymore, but expanded turbo functions might be important, will have to think about it
i will probably pick the madcatz one, although i prefer the hori artwork / colors
will give it some more thought until tonight
thanks for the help guys, appreciate it =)

I like the Kai’s body more than the pro, personally. Both are great, though.

Well i just got a sf4 se stick and i’m trying to try different grip find one i’m comfortable with but i feel like my hands are to big for the stick or is just me?
My wrist is resting on the edge of the case so it digs into me

The SE body is pretty small, it’s possible that your hands are too big, technically it’s bad ergonomics to wrest your wrist on the stick, just as it’s bad ergonomics to rest your wrist when using a keyboard.

You could try hovering your wrists so that you get better ergonomics and the body won’t dig into them anymore.

I had a stick that had 1/16th plexi and I was regularly playing with the stick rested on a high enough level that my wrist’s only natural feeling position was resting on the edge. I used a terry wristband and put it where the edge rubbed my arm. It worked really well and made me feel like Olivia Newton John an athlete.

You mean your wrist doesn’t have much room to the left of the stick? Unfortunately, that’s just how the SE is - I wouldn’t say your hands are too big for the stick, since I have this problem and my hands are medium sized.

Compact sticks that have 8 button layouts tend to suffer from this, shame though it is.

Come to think of it, a 6 button SE would be an incredible thing (covering up the existing holes doesn’t count).

I think you’re right about stick being small as my practice desk is a bit elevated but raise my chair and training wine glass grip my fingers feel cramped resetting on the board.

Let’s get physical? Might try that wristband technique sounds exciting

Exactly that i never thought myself having big hands but the thing makes me feel a giant XD

First post here at SRK. I’m just here right now because I’m trying to find a Super Famicom stick (for my NA SNES). I’m probably not gonna be able to track down the Hori HSJ-12 any time soon.

Anyway, I’ve been told to avoid Nintendo’s Super Advantage stick, but I just caught a pretty good deal for one at a nearby store. What are the reasons I should avoid it? My only other option seems to be the Capcom stick or modding my PS3 MadCatz TE.

For its time Nintendo’s Super Advantage wasn’t bad. But compared to authentic arcade parts the Super Advantage is lets say lacking, even when compared to other SNES stick of that era.
The Joystick and buttons are really sub par, and the main body too light and flimsy for good-old arcade playing.

Capcom Power uses either a Sanwa JWL or Seimitsu LS-40 and the same switches that Sanwa push buttons use.

Multi console Cthulhu board might be your best bet for snes. It’s common ground and native ps3 so putting it in with your current stick is easy.

I couldn’t find a thread specifically for the joystick part of the arcade stick, and if a make a new thread on this, it’ll get bombed, so I’m posting this here.

So I’ve been using the Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT-SK joystick for a little over a year already and I feel like I need a stick with a little more resistance, the buttons I have no problems with, though. I’ve heard about Seimitsu sticks, but people mentioned shorter throw distance which I do not want. I’ve also been having problems with deflection lately, (I’m the type that lets go of the stick if I need it on neutral) but that may just be because of a worn out spring. I’m only looking for slightly more tension than the JLF, not the amount you would get in a typical movie theater or mall stock arcade cabinet.

So would anyone be kind enough to direct me to a stick(s) with the conditions I’m looking for, or link me a list of specs of different sticks so I could compare them?

Okay for the scope of this thread - There is very little that fits your description.
This is a what controller to buy thread, so mods and customs are off topic

stick(s) with the conditions [you are] looking for:
Hori Fighting Edge

which has the Hayabusa joystick

I would follow @GeorgeC advice from the other thread you posted.

Next time please do not make multiple posts with the same question.

Are there any current fight sticks besides the Killer Instinct one that work on the Xbox One console?

No.

Just mod your own or get someone else to do so.

There’s the madcatz TE2 without killer instinct junk on it that’s up for pre-order, might be sold out though

Its too early in this new console gen to see a huge selection of sticks.

Honestly I am surprised the Xbox One has a stick at this early juncture.
its normally a few years before a console starts to get sticks. its that way with the PS3 and Xbox 360, PS2, Game Cube and OG Xbox (although Dreamcast got there stick kinda early)
PS1 didn’t get there first stick for a few years, I don’t remember if N64 had anything that is worth it. And it was a while till the SNES and Genesis/Mega Drive had a stick.
It was several years before the NES had the NES Advantage. Only the NEO GEO AES console had a stick at launch.

Hey man, 2D fighting game at console launch, that demands stick action!
PS4 sticks will come with xrd.

Essentially the sticks come when they’re needed, and they are never needed until there’s a game, and KI isn’t really an FGC console seller, so when we see the big titles we’ll see sticks.

Ps1 had a hori stick in 1994/early 1995. Iirc it was just called a hori fighting stick. A buddy of mine had one we used for tekken 1 and later on sfa1 and 2 till I got a namco at Wal mart for like 14 bucks at the time. Good memories.
