$99 with shipping… i’d suggest a 360 if you want to dualmod it with the cerberus, easy done. ps3 one is trickier to dualmod since you need a ps360+ or similiar unless you’re good
i prefer seimitsu, but its not really groundbreaking, the seimitsu requires a bit more force (very very very little difference) and sanwa is usually used anyway, but i felt hipster so i went with seimitsu
e/ forgot to mentino that it’s a noir layout. the last 2 buttons are bit futher down than the vewlix one
Some 90% (rough estimate) of all Premium joysticks are Sanwas. And most fans of Fighters prefer Sanwas.
Now that is said, if you head over to shmups.system11.org or www.neo-geo.com/forums the community consensus is Seimitsu as the preferred parts for Shmups.
Keep in mind “I find” the Sanwa JLF is too loose and sloppy for Shmups.
These are the options I would offer, other people might have their own opinions. That is the issue, opinions are like ass holes, everyone got one and they all stink.
1. LS-32
I find the Seimitsu LS-32-01 (with the flat mount plate) can install almost anywhere a JLF can. Although some disasembily is required to install the LS-32
LS-32 is flexible enough to be used on fighters and shmups. But some people who hit the gate too hard find a jumping of the gate that some people do not like the feel off.
The other flaw of the LS-32 is that it uses a C- ring clamp instead of a E-clip to hold the shaft Assembly together. The LS-32 is the only stick on the market to do this.
2. LS-56
A 2nd choice would be the LS-56-01, its smaller and more compact that the LS-32, easier to install.
Installs just about anywhere a JLF would,
Seimitsu consider a little bit more precise but unforgiving than the JLF.
3. Sanwa JLW
Here one that I think is too under rated. If you are familiar with the feel of american style parts but want to stick with Japanese parts,** the Sanwa JLW** is nice, its more heavy duty than the JLF and it has a stronger spring. The JLW comes in two versions, The JLW-TM which has a thin shaft and compatible with normal Sanwa/Seimitsu balltops, and the JLW-UM with a thicker shaft is only compatible with Bat tops and the larger 45mm ball tops. (Sanwa 45mm balltops are almost too heavy for the JLF and needs a stronger spring). The idea here why this stick is good is (almost) a complete 180 on the theory why you want a Seimitsu, the JLW have a longer throw than the Seimitsu, a stiffer level, but that is the trade off for someone who might be more comfortable with something more heavy duty. All 3 options have a smaller dead zone (area where movement of the joystick level does not translate into game input) than the rather loose JLF. The JLW does not use a 5 pin joystick harness, you have to either get induvidual .187 sized disconnects and splice your own joystick harness or use existing adapter kits.
4. Sanwa JLF
Didn’t you say the JLF is too loose for Shmups. Yes I did , I think its too loose for fighters too Yes I did say that. But with some minor modding, a larger actuator and stronger spring can overcome some of the JLF’s flaws. It is also a good way to experiment with and get different feels of a joystick with out spending that much money. Odds are you going to buy a stick that comes with a JLF anyways, you are just fine tuning that JLF.
Replacement springs at various strengths are cheap, Paradise Arcade shop offers a Actuator kit, with actuators of various sizes you can try out and see which one you like the best.
I’ve been reading more on parts and I like the sound of seimitsu for both the joystick and buttons. Are there any arcade sticks that come with seimitsu buttons and stick already installed?
Thank for all the valuable information posted here.
I´m new in the arcade´s hardware parts. Since I love games, I want an arcade stick primarly for emulation games in a PC (I do not need dual compability with other consoles) and for games where analog sticks are useless.
I read Seimitsu products are ideal for an action games, adventure, Shmups and Fighting (standard user).
I can buy an arcade stick or made one from scratch. What arcade stick do you recommend to buy for mod?
or, if I decide to build one by myself, (I know how to use soldering iron and made basic electronic circuits)
what do I need? (type of joystick, buttons, microwitches, game control interfaces)
and most important, where do you recommend to buy it?
I let you know right now the DIY approach is not cheap. If you are looking for a PC arcade stick, just about any of the current market (in production) Xbox 360, PS3 and Xbox One sticks would work.
There is not PS4 sticks yet. Note: the older Mad Catz TE the Round 1 and Round 2 sticks have issues with some PC hardware and compatibility.
Get a premium arcade stick, like a Mad Catz TE-S, TE-2, Pro or V.S. or a Hori Fighting Edge, Hori Real Arcade Pro series including the VLX, the Hrap 3, Hrap EX, The V3 SA Pro, VX SA Pro, N3, there UMVC, Gundam and Soul Calibur sticks. The Etokki Omni is nice, and to the lesser extent some people like Qanba sticks (I don’t care for them but that is personal bias).
Its like Coke or Pepsi just pick a brand and a stick that matches your taste and personal style.
Keep in mind all of the above comes with Sanwa parts as stock, except for the Omni which comes in Sanwa and Korean versions. And the Hori Fighting Edge as it comes with their own bran parts.
If you want some more on a budget see if you can find the Mad Catz WWE Brawl stick.
Very few sticks come as full Seimitsu as stock and all of those are limited editions. The good thing is it not hard at all to mod a stick to be full Seimitsu.
Buttons are drop in replacements, get 30 mm buttons to replace 30 mm buttons. For the Joystick it be the easiest to get a Seimitsu joystick which the model number ends with the " -01 " indicator showing it can use the same 5 pin wire-harness that most Sanwa JLF joysticks use.
Where to buy sort of depends on your geographical area, in the US I suggest Paradise Arcade followed by Focus Attack.
Expected is the Key word. Microsoft cut there release from the expected 21 countries down to only 13.
I doubt MS is just going to release a driver like the did the 360, I expecting a connection kit, with a product activation card where you key in a serial that allows you a one-time licences use download of the driver.
Kind of like how MS going with Office 365, you don’t buy MS Office any more you rent it for a year.
Nah, they don’t need to do anything fancy like that… “Genuine Windows” is already baked into the OS. Several free apps that MS has offered for DL in the past are already tied to it. They check your system to verify that it’s a legit copy of Windows, and once they do, the link to download the software appears.
Hi everyone. This is my first post here and I need your help choosing my first fight stick. I read the whole 1st post, which was really useful to know which models had the best quality for the best price. After some research, I have 3 sticks in my price range (not more than 100€, as I live in Europe) but I can’t really decide, they all look fantastic.
The notable differences are in the shapes and layout, the Soul Calibur V is a straight block. I never had my hands on a fight stick so I don’t really know what shape I would prefer to use but I think I’d like to have my wrist resting on the stick. I suppose the SC V one is not the best for that but I guess you can still rest your hand on it since it’s pretty big…
So yeah, I don’t know. Since everybody seems to have MadCatz stuff, I would be happy to buy a Hori as long as the quality is the same. Other than that, would you have advices for me ? I know at this point it’s more a matter of personnal likings but since I can’t really test them, your expertise would help me.
i prefer noir, but i only use 6 buttons because 8 button is dick
hori/madcatz is pretty much a coin toss. some prefer hori and some madcatz
what i can say though is that make sure it’s full sanwa (i think all these are). other than that, it doesn’t really matter.
which do you think looks best? are you planning on modding it later on? the 360 versions are a lot easier to mod with the cerberus, but if you don’t plan to dualmod it ps3 is fine but end up wanting to do it anyway, it’s do-able with a ps360+ or similiar
The only thing that scares me about the layout is the hand/arm position, with the SC V (I think it’s the “noir” if I understand correctly) I feel that the position isn’t very natural. For me the most natural position would be to have the right hand slightly turned left with the arm not restrained by the body.
And for the HRAP it seems really small between the buttons and the bottom, it doens’t seem to have a lot of space for the wrist.
But again I haven’t tested it and I don’t really figure out the dimensions of the stick, even though I watched videos…
Everyone different and have their own preferences.
Only thing I can recommend is experimentation and practice.
Not not know what you like and not like till you try it out.
Now as far as the Noir layout goes its Namco’s version of the Sega Player 2 layout.
The Namco Noir is a few millimeters off here and there so it would not be a exact match to the Sega layout.
Also Sega officially never had a 8 button format for their layout.
Well, surfing news on Internet I found that
The PS4 dual shock 4 controller has basic direct PC compatibility through API XInput**
No driver needed. Obviosly the tactil panel will not work until an specific driver (official or third party) are released
why Micosoft can not do something similar with their own controller and system?
