What Stick/Controller Should I Buy? Read the Guide on Pg 1 Before Posting

I went with the Hori Kai as my first stick so I don’t really have anything to compare it to. I’ve had it for a few weeks now and I love it. I don’t really care for the art or the color of the buttons (it’s the 360 version), but it performs perfectly. Buttons feel great as does the stick. The weight is perfect.

Hi guys I would ask you if there is some good arcade stick for ps2 console.

Anyone know the measurements for the Hayabusa stick? Like engage, throw, stuff like that? Is it basically a JLF clone with a different pivot, or is it outright a brand new stick?

I’m actually interested in them, unless they’re too much like JLF then I’m not.

Nothing that isn’t out of production or used.

There the Hrap 1 and 2, the Namco stick, few others here and there.
I recommend just modding a existing stick to work on the PS2 with a MC Cthulhu or PS360+

Hello everyone,

First of all, sorry for my English. I’m from France, and like every Froggies, we are unable to speak another language than our. Moreover, my englsih is a bit rusty.

I browse since 1 week now the internet in order to find some information about “which stick should i buy?”. Santa tell me to sent him a letter with the good reference. At the moment, I’m quite suspicious about Santa, and i think that Santa and my girlfriend are the same person.

Well, of course i read the first page, but still a bit lost.

I’m looking into my first arcade stick, to play fighting game of course, but not only: i’m planning to do some retrogaming via Hyperspin. So the stick must be able to handle both situation.
At the moment, i’ve selected few sticks only:

1.Hori Real Arcade Pro VX or V3 SA “KAI” which seems to be an upgrade version of the HRAP. My first choice.
2.Qanba Q4RAF: don’t ask me why, i don’t like it too much even if it’s a really good stick.
3.Madcatcz Arcade Fighting VS edition (but it seems it disappears, i can’t find it nowhere)

… Killer Instinct Arcade FightStick TE2?

I can’t find any news about future arcade stick, so it’s quite hard to chose to be honest.
My budget in Euros would be around 150-170 euros. The Hori Fighting edge was pretty cool but i can’t find it under 200 euros. What a pity.

Hope you’ll understand what I wrote.

the madcatz scv stick is excellent, goes for around €110 on french or german amazon, might have rised a bit though, i got mine for €107 on amazon, shipped to me in sweden for ~~ €10? i think

@darksakul will probably see this soon and reply with his superb knowledge yet once again

Thanks for your reply and your suggestion.
I have no idea why, but i feel attracted by “heavy” stick, i have the feeling it would be much more stable on my desktop, for example, or during a MAME session. so, if i summarize:
On this website (only in french), they consider the MadCatz Soul Calibur V as a middle range arcade stick. I would prefer to buy a higher range arcade stick.

the MCZ SCV stick is a TE with a noir layout and different sides. it’s as heavy as most around 3.5 kg iirc

it’s full sanwa, so it’s as “good” as it gets. it’s also mod friendly. it looks like crap though

you want the HRAP, just go with it. its your first choice which is almost always the best one.

Thanks again for your reply. More I browse the forum, more I doubt! I’m not the kind of guy who pick up a think without spending 6 months comparate technical sheets and ask advice on almost all the website in the world.

Here in France, there’s only few product available easily. What a shame…

Madcatz Arcade FightStick TTTE S+: i hate the green transparent case. :frowning:

What about the Razer Atrox? That’s quite funny cause on some French forums, people are bashing it. No one seems to like it. And no one seems to have tested it neither.

aaah french people…

I Beta tested the Atrox, and I think its great. its only outdone construction wise by the new TE2.

I would choose the VS stick by madcatz. It’s heavy duty like you wanted. I checked amazon France and it looks like it is out of stock though.

The casing on the TTT2 TE-S+ is not green - only the bezel and the side plates are translucent green (XBox 360 version). The case itself is black (like most TE’s), and the bezel and side plates can be replaced with any of the various colors available separately. You can even replace the TE-S style sides with a classic TE style if you wish… Oh, and the full foam pad on the bottom plate is comfortable on your lap.

The Mad Catz SCV stick is as good as any other TE-S style stick, only difference is that, like the TTT2 above, it features a Noir layout, which is somewhat similar to a Sega/Astro style, but is unique to the Namco licensed sticks that MCZ has released in the past. Like most other MCZ TE sticks, they feature Sanwa parts, and easily accommodate Seimitsu parts as well (LS-32-01 sticks). I’d stand behind either one, as I have both.

Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate.

I’m sorry, i don’t understand exactly what you mean by “outdone construction”. I’ve read the review on Shoryuken, and they seems to talk about the lack of metal in the stick. Am I right? I hope there’s no flex or feel like a toy, cause it’s quite exepensive, but i can’t find it right now for about less than 230$.
I like it even if it’s quite flashy. Is it heavy? When you mean new TE2, you mean the MadCatz fighting TE2 / Killer instinct one?

Yeah, i can’t find it anywhere.

I’m consider it too, that just because i don’t like too much the design i’m still investigating.

What about the pretty soon realesed MadCatz fighting TE2 / Killer instinct ? http://madcatz.com/wp-content/plugins/Premium_Gallery_Manager/cache/pgalleryMad-Catz-FightStick-TE2-003.jpg

I’ve found on Amazon Japan website a cool one, (love the design, especially if it didn’t mention any specific game), the Team Mad Catz Arcade FightStick Versus Series SH ( http://evo.shoryuken.com/2012/08/10/team-mad-catz-arcade-fightstick-versus-series-sh-with-silent-sanwa-parts-releasing-in-japan-at-19800-yen/ ) . Love the design, the metal (?) layout, the color, i’m thinking to order it from Japan.

Once again, i don’t want to bother you asking stupid question, but (i did) it’s quite hard to find relevant information on french website. Don’t know why but many of the announced stick are not available right now.

you can swap out the art very easily with a plexi from tek-innovations.com, you can paint the casing quite easily if you do it correctly (lots of guides here)

so picking one because of art/colour of the plastic is pretty… meh, especially if you’re going to pay A LOT more for it.

remember how much shipping it is from japan, along with the risk of delays in shipping

TE2 is sweet, but won’t work for ps3/360 and xbone only got KI. it should work for pc though

I don’t think it will work for PC just yet - at least not until Microsoft releases their “XBox ONE Controller for Windows” driver, which is expected some time in 2014. Even then, I would not be surprised if it becomes available for Windows 7/8/8.1 only.

I dislike the Aatrox because I inherently dislike Razer for releasing marked up peripherals with substandard drivers (in my opinion) and they get away with it and everyone loves them.
That said, I’m sure the Aatrox is a fine stick but it is marked up in price (in my opinion) which is why I would never buy one.

I also don’t think the Madcatz SCV looks bad (but I don’t like noir layout so I’d never get one)

The Madcatz TE2 is back-ordered still, probably until January I’m assuming (with no evidence to back me up) and as mentioned previously it is only for the xbox one thus making it a stick you probably do not want.

I’m assuming you want this stick for PC play because you list the Hrap VX and V3 (VX means Xbox and V3 means Ps3) at which point I would 100% endorse anything you’re looking at except the Qanba (personal preference) because Hori is good, Madcatz is good. Embrace the JLF (the joystick which is in the Madcatz VS series, the SCV noir, and Fightstick Pros, along with the HrapV3/X).

Although I don’t have Injustice on the PC so if that’s the game you’re interested in I can’t verify what the stick interfacing is like. In SFIV, SFxT and Skullgirls you’re set with basically any stick, but I’m not sure with Nether Realms Studios…

Also if I was wrong in assuming you wanted to play on the PC I apologize and a good amount of my post is kind of useless. However you could consider my intention (of narrowing down what games you want the stick for) and apply that to the console + games you are interested in.

Dej, PlayDoh003, Nsc, thanks for your reply. It helps me to make a choice (which I didn’t right now, too much work, need some time to rest).

I have no pinion about Razer. Many people are saying it’s rubbish, like many people are saying Microsoft sucks. But at the end, eveyone (almost) is running windows! Don’ like too much the green design (I have something against the green color, maybe a traumatism in my childhood, I need to check with my parents…), but on the Razer thread, people are not complaining about this stick: sturdy, easy access, expensive. But I don’t mind to go 50 euros more if the stick worth it.

I definitely prefer a stick “large”, not with a bevel/featheredge in the front to rest the wrist.

There also the problem of availability: Razer, Hori RAP Kai, Hori lower range stick, Hori soulcalibur version, and Qanba Q4RAf are the most easily available. Madcatz TTT2 S+ and Fighting PRO are the only available here in France/Europe.

So, right now it will be between Razer Atrox (that’s funny cause Atrox sounds like a french word which mean “Ugly”), MadCatz TTT2 S+ (didn’t like the color), HRAP KAI, Qanba Q4RAF. That’s it.

I’m still in love the Madcatz Versus Team SH, but not available in my country and price will be around 200€ with delivery.

What about the fighting edge? Can’t see any thread about it. Piece of shit? Or cool stick? (I know, bevel platform for the wrist)…

Again, thanks for your patience, advice, and sense of humour guys.

and yes, it’s for pc gaming and hyperspin orgasm.

I like the fighting edge a lot. I’d buy a white one if I could justify it.

If you haven’t made a decision, I personally would go with the MadCatz Pro. It’s a newer line and the buttons and stick have a smooth feel to them, imo.
The SCV is good, but for me, there are times where my forearms get uncomfortable with the flat edge. Of course, everyone has different ways of hand positioning.

Has anyone gotten their hands on a KE MCZ stick? It’s seemingly disrespectful to Laugh and eTokki for MCZ to do a KE imo, as it could take business away from eTokki and the other Korean stick companies.
I’m still mad curious about the Razer and the Korean sticks, particularly the Crown and Fanta stick gates.

To those in Europe, try eBay. There may be some steals on there. I realize international shipping can be expensive, but if the stick’s price is low it may even out and give you more selection.

Lastly, and I hope I am not breaking thread rule/etiquette, I feel this review by Aris on the Qanba glow stick is good.

That reminds me my Qanba section of the guide is out of date.

Anyone want to pitch in and do a write up for the section, I update the guide and give you full credit.
