There are some REALLY bad posts in this thread. If you are clueless about the marvel and insist on posting at least give us some kind of disclaimer. Something like "please note: I don’t know shit and I’m a fucking idiot " would probably work okay.
Overall I have to give it to the EC. There are some very talented players on the west coast, but over the last couple of years it seems like the EC players have just had more passion for playing and competing. This is important because at this stage of the games lifespan, the overall strength of a given area will be determined more by the number of active players that are practicing together, running tournanments, and trying to improve than the total number of talented players in an area. This, of course, was always the case to some degree, but with the waning popularity of the game I feel its even more relevent than before.
I’m not taking aything away from that 5 on 5. Wc won more than convincingly. But that 5 on 5 didnt really prove shit IMO. Thats like me saying if we beat the wc team this year we own wc or we’re better than wc. Shit doesnt work like that. Its crazy because I was just talking to potter about this the other day. I got SCRAPED in that 5 on 5. Team tourneys aint my thing. I hate one game setups and it showed. However, the next day in final 16 I placed over damn near everyone I’d lost to the night before in the 5 on 5. Does that make me better? No. Does that make them better? No. That tourney proved nothing.
As far people in the west falling off from not play/lack of arcades give me a break with that shit.I dont know how things work on the west but outside of yipes,sanford and a handful of others (that dont even place high in tourneys) ec doesnt play all that much. I cant speak for everyone but I know I almost always place high in ALL tournaments I enter and I probally play the least of everyone in my area. Not playing marvel does not = not being good in marvel. Shit I remember at PSM last year the best match of the whole tourney was me vs Soo. 2 dudes that work and go to school and play the shit once in a while. That shit was the best match of the tourney. David lee Plays next to never and he won that tourney. Duc won evo and he had just started playing again. All Justin plays is 3s and he wins 99% of the tourneys he enters. Marvel is like riding a bike bro. If you’ve ever played that shit and were good you’ll stay good.
As far as which coast is better. Im gonna say Ec all day. West has some killers. Imo the best the west ever had are still the best in cali. Duc,david,soo,potter,ruin,combo,Chris Schimt. I know I leaving some heads out but there are too many of you fuckers. But over ec is better imo. Yes I am biase but look where I live.

You’re right. You talked about Soo, David Lee and you not playing often and being good…the same goes for guys like Rowtron. From what I’ve heard, he didn’t even play that much when he was taking 2nd at Evo and placing closer to Justin than anyone else.
It’s true that the good players are still gonna be good even if they aren’t practicing, but a (insert name of good player here) who is playing everyday is going to beat up a (insert name of same player) that doesn’t pracitce.

back in its prime, SHGL tournies got more players than ECC Marvel…
Sanford made it down for a tournament which had IIRC 120+ players, and he didnt place top 3… (or maybe it was 3rd)…
CA back then had atleast 15-20 good marvel players, where as NY had about 5.
So yes, winning a SHGL tournament back then had more value, in terms of player skill and player base.
SHGL tournaments were so big that they needed to cap it at 128 and that happened easily every month.
