Anyways, ya EC imo is better. Also remember that alot of ppl dont travel, its easy for a west coast player to make a name for themselves. Where as we had to place while sanford and yipes were entering (at the time) which makes placing high very tough. EC barely has vids so judging EC is unfair imo as WC got new marvel vids every week. I mean WC is serious i show respect, but i think EC>WC. Besides EC has me and im that dude…
EC can claim to be better than WC when they beat WC in a 5 on 5. Which has never happened.
History lesson:
WC has always been better than EC at Marvel, at Capcom stuff in particular. Not hating on EC, but it was always clear that WC was better. After a while Wong started getting good, and WC people didn’t believe the hype. How can some kid from NY be better than all of CA? If WC > EC, then how could Wong be the best? Didn’t make sense.
But it was true. And then when Wong proved it (beat Ricky Ortiz, Valle and finally at B5 he beat Duc), people started talking a bunch of shit about how EC was better. This was back in like 2001/2. World champ was Wong, and he was representing CTF. Another EC player placed high at B5 (2001)(I can’t remember his name for the life of me…no offense. Mike D?), which made people outside of WC believe it.
But, it wasn’t true. For years, it was WC > EC at MvC2. When Wong won, it just switched to Wong > WC > EC. Wong, inexplicably, was ahead of WC and far ahead of EC (though I’m sure he made some matches back in NY look close because people got to play him all of the time). And that’s how it’s been for a long-ass time. SHGL was the best place to play MvC2 at it’s prime, period. Someone said SHGL tournies were like majors…that was true. You had most of the best players in the world going at it and the game was relatively new, and people were coming up with new shit all the time (everything MvC2 players know came from SoCal, for the most part, from AHVB to mashing out of Tempest to guard breaks to guard cancel, unfly etc). SHGL >> CTF. At that time.
The issue wasn’t settled, of course…people were talking maaaad shit. I had the pleasure of being at Evo2k3 for the WC vs EC 5 on 5. The fact is it probably could have been a 3-on-3 and WC still would have taken it. Wong > WC > EC.
But WC has been falling off. At least, relative to how crazy it used to be. SHGL closed, and players stopped playing, etc.
…and I would still put WC over EC in a 5-on-5 if it happens at Evolution this year. I’m not hating on EC, they’re good at the game. If it were a 3-on-3 (and Sanford came), maybe EC would have it, but sleepy WC > improved EC. I have $20 on WC if it happens. Somebody accept.

Once again, not hating…just providing a little perspective, since a lot of people reading this are new.

i still don’t think that evo has been a good way to determine it… as remix1213 said… a lot of WC players show up, cuz it’s right there… not many EC tops show up.

Yes they did, ask Viscant what I told him…at B4 when ALL of socal asked me at that time WHO the best player in NY/EC was. Hint: It wasn’t Eddie Lee or myself, who placed highly at B4 that year in the early days of marvel.
If anything, I didn’t believe in Justin myself when I traveled to SHGL/socal in the years afterward to play top Marvel cats at the time, I actually thought valle/duc/ricky ortiz and others could beat him afterwards when I played ALL of shgl in the marvel e3 (2001) tourney and I couldn’t place higher than t-5th place. Boy, I got proven wrong 3 times that year… lol.
Your history is a bit skewed, but for the most part, I agree with most of it.
edit, if anyone tries to flame me or my perspective, I have been around since the beginning of the marvel scene, and traveled a lot in the early days, but I always sucked at mvc2 and dropped off once everyone truly learned how to play the game lol.

Marvels still got a following a bit tough to get back in to the rythem with all of the snap backs, cross over and Infinites. I can’t say which side is better until there’s a fat as 4 way tourney Mid-west, south, east and west. each side brings 8 scrubs, 8 advanced, 8 intermediate, and the top 8 from each area. 128 man marvel battle… ahhh the good ol’ days that should settle it.
My favrorite player to watch in so cal is soomighty, even back then when my friend and i used to watch vids of soo’s Msp we thought that it was going to be stolen in a matter of months/year… now all i see is washed up combos from the originator of msp whore me resets floating everywhere you go and watch or play marvel… i just wanted to give props n respect to soo’ the Msp Master of altime

yes. if you watch all those matches, the fp was broken on the P2 side so thats why u see messed up AHVB and dashes. and the 7th match, DHC glitch dunno, bommerang is usually done on purpose, and also you can see magneto try to dash through shockwave but does a jumping jab.
