Vanilla characters do wild damage, there are only a few characters in later versions that can keep up.
Instead of relying on what the major TO’s do with this mode, I think it’s better to see what the is done on the grass root level with smaller TO’s. One of the contributing factors that stunted the growth of SFxT was that the local TO’s followed suit with the Majors and did the game in Tag Team mode instead of single player. Now just for see what happens I am going to have the mode playable week one at our weekly AE tournament in Detroit. If it gets a good result and everyone has fun then maybe we will run it once a month.
another option would to make ES available if both players in a tournament match agreed.
I’m just interested to see what Top players would do if Edition Select was the standard. Like Would Daigo use a iteration of Ryu? Super Guile? or AE Yun?, would Gamerbee use a Adon or stick with Elena? Who would Justin pick?!? It would be pretty intense to see what kind of Top 8 would be for Edition Select, especially if characters you wouldn’t think made it up there.
Daigo would use Vanilla Ryu who was a monster, he only used AE Yun cause AE Ryu was his worst iteration.
Justin would use Vanilla Rufus, Rufus’s best iteration.
Deminion would use Ultra or Super Guile.
Tokido and Infiltration would use Vanilla Akuma.
There wouldn’t be that many surprises, except for the high level players who main characters that won’t be able to compete, they would go to one of the handful that could. Top 8s wouldn’t be nearly as diverse as AE 2012, and the lack of diversity would be even clearer when looking at top 16s or top 32s.
And so the characters that were ass since the beginning will still be ass. Wasn’t the point for releasing Ultra was to have a more balanced game? So all the bitching and complaining for buffs from Blanka, T.Hawk, DeeJay, Cody and Gouken players are pointless?

I believe someone on Twitter (that has something to do with the game aside from playing it) has confirmed that while Decapre won’t be at the Loketests, ES will be. I guess this makes it so that arcades and consoles have access to everything then, doesn’t it?
If arcades get ES then that should be the tournament standard then, everyone gets access to all the characters/matchups so there is no excuse.

I don’t know, but I like the most recent news I can get better than old news.
They have ES now at loc tests yes, but that does not mean that they’ve now opted to add it in to the arcade release yet, as of right now an official statement still trumps a twitter post from our EU lord and savior.

Yeah, I can accept that. Currently there to trial, not 100% that it would be there on release. Even posting it, I’ll admit that our community-facing guys don’t always know what’s really going on in dev, especially with Capcom.
I say make it a side event with good stream coverage at first (focusing on Ultra as the main event for the game), and see how the players and audience react.
I’m not saying make ES the standard, but let it prove itself. If it generates entries and hype, keep it. If not, drop it.
