I wanted to take the temperature of the community and see what they feel should and shouldn’t be patched. As we know, NRS has stated that they’re willing to patch out things according to what’s “fair.” What does that mean to you, and what should that mean?
Personally, I hope it only means infinites. I have a sneaking hunch that they’re going to remove Cyrax’s bomb trap and Smoke’s ground bounce on his air throw. I think that both of those things are fairly balanced and keep them competitive with the best characters in the game (and possibly even leave them a bit behind the best). Removing these things, IMO would be a drastic blow to them and would cause them to not be viable in tournaments (and we already hardly see any Smoke).
I have seen that NRS is looking into making the worse characters better. IMO, that’s absolutely the best way to go about it. Bringing the weaker characters up to snuff is a much more interesting way to create balance. We’ve seen some comments from the developers about how they’re going to improve Kano to give him a bit more of an edge. I hope that becomes the major trend rather than excessive nerfs.

I definitely agree. It puts his damage just above average, which is fine for his playstyle.
Idk, it does about 55%, which is only a bit more than most, and he needs to get in to do it. Cyrax can have a difficult time getting in on some zoners. He doesn’t seem overpowered with it imo, and without it I think he’s in trouble. I’d really like to see NRS leave it in.
At around 50 minutes in, Tom Brady says that the smoke bomb after air throw is going to be gone in the next patch.
I really hope that isn’t true. That’s going to make his damage potential plummet. He REALLY doesn’t need that, especially when he’s not overpowered without it…
I know it will never happen, but I’d like to see a patched move list for certain characters so they make some damn sense.
i.e. Lui kangs fireball moves being done with punches, not a punch and kick. Subzeros freeze ball being done with a punch not a kick, Lui Kangs flying KICK not using a PUNCH button. Just a few examples. Minor things and prob wont ever get touched, but no idea why they went with those in the first place…
I hope the bomb trap stays, I don’t think its too much or else everyone would be playing him. If I were to change it I would make it to were you cannot command grab if they are in a net, and keep the rest the same. Honestly I think its pretty balanced, I think Baraka needs buffs, smoke should keep his otg, and the thing that needs fixing is the buffer system, its not really that good.
I don’t know if this is just me needing to improve my game but sometimes the negative edge is really annoying. Maybe they could make a smaller window out of that. I don’t know, I don’t have a problem it when I use my main, Raiden or my fun character Johnny Cage, but when I use my alt, Smoke, I get random smoke bombs in combos I didn’t want them to be in, or with my other fun character Liu Kang, I get fireball after a long juggle instead of bicycle or the other kick.
The negative edge in SSFIV and MvC3 is fine to where it’s there, but it doesn’t interfere too much, but in MK I’ve had a lot of interferences. But like I said, maybe that’s just me.
Inputs should be patched. Other than lowering the damage on Cyrax’s trap, I wouldn’t nerf anybody. Give buffs to the shitty characters, don’t ruin the good ones.
Lol, I forgot about that one. How do you even deal with that? Is there anything you can hit him with, or can he just sit on a lead for the whole match?
NRS, I hope you’re listening. Nobody wants the Smoke Bomb OTG to be “fixed,” so please don’t patch it out. I’d really hate to see an awesomely cool character like Smoke fall into obscurity because he can’t break 30s with his combos and wasn’t particularly amazing when he had good damage either.
They make sense if you play stick and use the default button layout, I think this is why they did this, subzero ice ball is done with FK because on a default layout it is in the same positioning as ‘low punch’ used to be in the arcade (which is the old button for it) with the new attack system it actually makes sense in this layout I hated it until I decided to switch to default and now it feels natural again for an old school mk player like myself which grew up playing this game in the arcades.
same with lui kang, his fireballs are on the same buttons layout wise they used ot be in the arcade on default.
Yep, that’s what I did. 1 projectile is supposed to reset the glitch, but I didn’t trust it, so I bombarded him with a dozen until he got out of crouch block.
the only thing i believe needs to be patched are cyrax’s command grab bomb setup, quan chi’s rune trap, nd more recovery frames nd less pushback on kung lao’s spin move on block cuz i feel it should be made punishable so that kung lao players cnt throw that out with reckless abandon with it being exetremely hard to punish. nd some char- err kharacters could use buffs like baraka his b2,2,1+2 popup combo should give a higher groundbounce nd Jax could get a little damage buff i guess
