As a Cyrax player I’d argue that the damage could/should be toned down slightly. The norm for the game seems to be 35-45% meterless combos (exceptions, of course, but that seems to be the general trend). If they just reduced command throw damage from 13% to, say, 5%, and then, perhaps, slightly reduced damage of either bombs or b+2 the problem would be solved.
The problem isn’t that bomb trap exists, it’s more or less just a combo like anything else, it’s that it averages about 55% damage instead of 45 or 40% as is the norm. Removing the trap entirely would just be a drastic overreaction.
1.) Ermac damage nerf
2.) Kung Lao damage nerf
3.) Cyrax’s command throw has a longer tech window
4.) Smoke bomb OTG removed
5.) One of Kano’s moves becomes low, up-ball recovery lessened
6.) Parry glitch removed
7.) Sonya’s military stance block trap removed
This change list has me concerned that NRS is just gonna nerf the crap out of every character who does well in a tournament. I think it’s WAY too early to be making drastic balance changes like that.
Hopefully we can get them to not take out the Smoke Bomb otg and gimp Smoke. I haven’t seen a single person think it’s a good idea to do that. And there’s hardly ever consensus on the internet.
The way they’re handling Cyrax’s bomb trap is good, although I’m still far from convinced that it’s overpowered.
Giving a boost to the worse characters is definitely the way to go balance wise, so I’m glad to see efforts in improving Kano.
Finally, yeah, Sonya’s trap needed to go. I wonder if they’ll deal with Ermac’s jail string as well.
you only get 50%+ off a bomb trap if your opponent doesn’t block, realistically your looking at 30% plus the damage from the command throw (about another 13%) thats not too bad most the top tiers can do that sort of damage easily, still if people really think its to much simply lower the damage of the command throw this will nerf the bomb trap but leave his other combos in tact
there is some sort of shortcut that i’m doing that is making me do xray’s totally on accident sometimes, and it is really pissing me off. it seems to happen w/out me even pressing all 3 of the buttons necessary for it, but I have no idea wtf i am doing.
last night i also saw 2 glitches i had never seen before.
cyber sub zero was “floating” and walking on a plane that was about hip level. happened more than 3 times in this one KOTH session.
reptile did his ex acid spit and it hit me on the other side of him, and the acid was coming out of the front of his head, as well as the back of his head, and it hit me coming out the back of his head.
And even less than that if the opponent jumps. It doesn’t do as much damage as people seem to think. Just think of it as a combo and it’s completely sane.
Well, to be fair, they shouldn’t be able to jump. If the opponent jumps during bomb trap that means Cyrax messed up the timing of his bomb into dash BP BP, at least according to Sprint and I’m inclined to take his word in matters related to Cyrax. And after the 13% for command throw, you should be getting at least 34% for the combo (+an additional 4% chip damage from the blocked dash BP BP). This is why I’m saying, even as a Cyrax player who has something to gain from bomb trap being left 100% alone, it wouldn’t be out of line to tone down the damage a little bit, as currently, you should be averaging 50-55% with bomb trap.
Then again, if the rumor of increased throw tech window for command grab is true, it might more than offset bomb trap enough to make reducing its damage unnecessary.
yea dude i had never seen them happen either, that sub zero thing happened quite a few times. that reptile one made me LOL though because it was just funny looking.
you know i’ve seen this on the rare occassion, but this also happened randomly back in mk1 and mk2 days. wonder if this is just some randomness that is built into the engine.
nope, the button that i have mapped to my stance change button isn’t even wired on my joystick.
Remember if you change from standing block to crouching block within a few frames of the sweep making contact, you’ll block it but remain in the standing position.
I keep hearing about Kabal supposedly getting his run block loop patched. Please don’t do this! It doesn’t seem patch worthy with nothing being guaranteed just another mixup, but correct me if i am wrong
you may be getting some negative edge interference when trying to do a combo or something. i normally dont play tag but ive accidentally tagged with negative edge a few times when trying to do something.
i think reptile’s ex spit and sub zero’s ex freeze may hit in both directions sometimes. haven’t thoroughly tested it
