I played him earlier ranked and I was Ryu and he was Ken and I was beating him 2-0 then as soon as I went for the Jumping RH kick for the chip damage win he pulled his cord on me!
I messaged him “lolumad?” and he replied “F*** you I’m 65” as in ranked 65 on the leaderboards and I’m like “Yea because you just D/C when your getting raped scrub”
Oh yea there was this other guy I played the night before I forgot his gamertag he was playing Rufus and he was like after I beat him “Same combo over and over” and I’m like "Lolumad?"then he was like “you have no skill” and I’m like “Ok turtle rufus scrub can’t take a loss” like because he was playing Rufus like freakin’ Guile and he got mad because I was FB’ing him and crossing in on him and no counter for good zone play when he should of been a little more offensive towards me lol these ppl always put a smile on my face!
This isn’t any kind of derogatory mail, but I feel it deserves an honorable mention. I was playing a bunch of matches with this guy online. We chatted for a while, said “Good games” in between rounds, etc. - all in all, a very amicable conversation. Then, out the blue, his tone becomes a lot more irritated. I asked him what was up, and he yelled, “Dammit, I can’t do my combos on you because you block all the time!” I told him that yes, I do block when attacks are coming, since blocking was invented to prevent such things. He left.

I have my computer right here anyways, so i just go to the xbox website and send the message through there. I pretty much never use the 360 pad to make the message.
after deafeating gief, blanka, guile and sakura with my Sakura this guy swithces to ken. halfway through the match he turns on his mic and begins hurling abusive threats, which i found humorous as i imagined him wearing a little headset and talking trash at his television. he wins the next 3 rounds as ken, I muted his mic and continued to play glad for the chance to learn, next round I win and while i was tempted to turn the mute off i dont. next round I’m easily beating him and he disconnect drops.
what I take from this experience is that I am trying to get better at this game and appreciate when someone allows me the chance to keep trying, thats how I learn. in this case my opponent cycled through characters until he found an advantage, then upon losing, due to my learning from my fights, quits. He will never learn.
As for the verbal barrage, I can only speculate on the sort of sub-mental, illiterate upbringing he must have festered out of.

Everyone plays at their own pace, dude. I don’t think you were wrong to message him like that, but this guy decided to set his own limits. Clearly he didn’t have fun playing against you, so he decided to avoid doing it again. I’d say it’s foolish to think less of him for it. Another player might have put priority on improvement and said to himself, “Even though playing this guy frustrates me, I’m going to do it to get better.” But for this one, fun was a little more important. And let’s be honest–there’s nothing fun about getting completely steamrollered.
So, I think you were kind of pushing it by saying he “gave up.” He just decided to find someone he’d have more fun playing against.
Online I’m pretty no-holds-barred, but when I play someone who’s scrubby/new offline, I definitely change my playing patterns. Is it less fun for me than playing at 100%? Yeah, but I hate the idea of beating someone so bad that they feel shitty or lose interest in the game (or games in general). Like I said, it is simply not fun to get completely rogered in a game, especially if you don’t understand why. Some people–scrubs–are simply not interested in finding out, so in their case, I just play a bit and then say GTG or whatever. Other people will learn at their own pace. :rock:
Being that I have a learning disability and it usually takes me a long-ass time to learn how to do certain things(ask anyone I play 3s with, it took me almost 2 years of constant play before I started to win consistently), I feel for this guy. It’s a real killer to constantly lose or just lose real bad when you cant understand why, even when you put the effort forth to figure it out.
From a gaming standpoint, the point of a game is to have a good time, and if you aren’t having a good time because of problems you cant solve quickly enough, it’s can be a real morale killer(it got me off of playing MvC2 after giving it a good year of heavy play cause I got destroyed in it every time I played and never could figure out why) and can ruin interest in trying to play something. It’s easy to say “well, if you’re sucking, than just keep playing and you’ll eventually get better” but you have to realize that’s easier said than done for some, if not, most people.
So, in a nutshell, maybe he seems unsporting from the start, but like anyone in this world, people get frustrated when they cant win, some more than others. I’d take his words with a grain of salt and and give him the benefit of the doubt.
And yes, we’re very far off from living in a magical world where everyone is a good sport, which is why this thread is 36 pages.
