When people say it they basically mean air dashers that aren’t marvel. So no ground based footsie games. They should just call them air dashers though.

A simple counterpoint are games like Akatsuki, Yatagaratsu, Aquapazza, Vanguard Princess, Koihime Musou, Ougon Musou Kyoku, Battle Fantasia, etc that don’t have air dashes and are ground based.
And lol at implying that Ryu and co. or that Kyo and co. doesn’t look like anime.

When I think anime game I think… focus on fanservice. Honestly, I think the over the top fanservice is what gives most “anime” games a bad rep.

Wow, haven’t seen the elena picture before haha. I’ve never understood Cammy’s aversion to pants (I always think of the alt costumes in SF4 with the snow jacket and no pants). As blatant as the fanservice is in the 3D games you listed, I don’t think of most of them as being “anime” games because they are 3D fighters and their gameplay mechanics are entirely different than most games in the anime style. Also, DOA is in a league of its own in terms of fanservice, they even added the ability to jiggle the girls boobs with the PS3 controller in the last update! They know who their audience is.

How is Street Fighter not an anime fighter but Blazblue is? How are any of theses games anime? Now, I wont pretend that Blazblue doesn’t look like a game for Japanese children to young adults, but I wont pretend that Street Fighter doesn’t look like a game for Japanese adults, both look pretty Nippon-ish. If all you have to do is have air-dashes, then we gotta come up with a better name, cuz “anime” is just silly.
