It’s easier for anyone to play and win on casuals at their own pace. It’s a whole other game when money and tournament placement is on the line. Then the real bragging rights are opened up.
It’s a regular thing to see a promising young man get absolutely wrecked once he is in the ring with the big boys(Fanatiq vs Rayray for example) being streamed in front of thousands. Maybe you should refrain from judging the scene so harshly until you and your friend whoop America’s ass at a major.
i find that teaching is the way to grow a good community. people where im at wanna learn, not just get beat into the ground. so i host casuals next to ssf4ae and tekken all the time. i was pretty proud of myself when i started going to local tournaments and i didnt have to bring a set up for it.
it wont be long till they have regular tournaments for the game and im no longer the best player.
everyone here needs to be teaching and learning at the same time. there is so many untapped styles in this game and thats why i find it amazing. every characters has this “freestyle” aspect that i love. i can kinda compare it to marvel, that community is growing more because there is still so many diffrent set ups you can use and players are still finding where they fit in. in my community they are doing the same thing. there are 2 filia players here that are getting better everyday but they play her so differently you would think its another character.
The “freestyle” aspect of this game is what I like as well. When I play Capcom fighters, I tend to gravitate towards characters like Akuma or Ibuki, those who have tons of options, even if they’re not the best. It allows you to be flexible and mix up your strategies on the fly. But EVERY character in SG is like this, it’s pretty fantastic.
If you want to see this game on the main stage at EVO you’re going to have to start taking cues from MK and get the developers on board. The sole reason that MK is big game at MLG and EVO is because the developers are willing to drop money to make sure that the game is in events.
Of course the only reason they can do this is because the players continue to show up en masse to the events the developers pay for, and this is a lot easier for WB with their millions than Reverge with their $10 and workers who still haven’t been payed for contributing years of their lives to the project.
Grassroots simply isn’t enough anymore, tournaments (especially EVO) are simply too big. You need to get the dev in there and you need to make sure they and the TO see a good return on their investment.
TL;DR: Get Dev support, toss money around, keep numbers from dropping.
true say. i think its a big things that the company needs to push hard on this as well to get the results everyone is after, and so far they’ve been doing
a pretty good job of it. if everyone keeps up the momentum, it should turn out at pretty well
Actually, if you look closely, several of them are for different tourneys than EVO. Most of them have it laser etched on the side which tourney they were made for.
I could care less if anybody believes me regarding what happened at EVO but it’s the truth. They simply couldn’t handle the Parasoul+Cerebella BS. (Block String with Parasoul, call assist… opponent gets thrown by either the assist on the ground or Paraoul in the air who is going for the air grab. Both of which lead into a full combo. When you attack Parasoul with anything it’s alpha countered into Cerebella for another full combo. It’s evil stuff and they didn’t know how to handle it. It was as simple as that.)
Proving ourselves past casuals isn’t possible unfortunately as there are Zero Skullgirls tournaments being run in Mexico. We tried as hard as we could to organize them - heck we even made a video promoting the game down here in a vain attempt to get more people to play. I don’t see any of you trying to run Skullgirls tournaments or making promotional videos for your local communities. Our UMVC3, SF4, KoF and heck even our Random Hyperspin Game tournaments have more people coming out to them.
I’m not trying to prove we’re the best. I’m trying to grow the community. I don’t need to prove that Dino and I are the best 2 Skullgirls players in Guadalajara. We KNOW we’re the best because we’re the only ones playing the damn thing. During our last major tournament down here in April (soon after SG release) with over 100 players I had Skullgirls running on one of the systems trying to promote the game. Only one other person from Mexico City knew how to play the game. I’m fairly certain that I’ve done more to try and grow the Skullgirls community than most of the people on this forum put together. I can only do so much though and I need to start reverting my attention back to the games that people want to play.
Can you tell me where to go in that video to see good gameplay?
I clicked at random and watched 5 minutes around the 20 minute mark, and that was awful. I think I could beat you guys and I consider myself barely competent.
EDIT: Oh, it’s back from May. Well, that may explain some stuff, but probably shouldn’t be what you leave us with… not to mention that looks very mediocre even for May 25th.
