is that how it goes?

this convo spawned so many random ones. all i hav to input is - someone said said they preferred the “ten” interpretation as opposed to “heaven” but im pretty sure they both the same, in reference to the highest point/highest number/and so on

What he says while he’s charging up for the RD, before he glides across the screen? I believe it’s “Kakugo wa you i ka” which translates loosely to something like “Are you prepared for an early death?” (the “ka” makes it a question, and the “i”, which I’m not at all sure about, could make it more like “Prepared for a glorious death?”). Akuma has kind of weird, anachronistic speech patterns in Japanese so it’s sort of hard to tell exactly what he means from how he’s phrasing things to the ears of someone who only knows some modern, conversational speech.

What I really want to know is what he’s saying when you finish Ryu with a RD during the “Rival” match in Arcade mode. The voice samples are completely different and I don’t know the language well enough to understand what’s going on. Then there’s the whole conversation they have during the course of the bout. I suppose I should just play through it again in English to find out what vague translation Capcom have used.

Hmmm… the “i ka” I’m guessing is actually ???Which would be, “is it [good] okay?” This would the “Are you…” part of the "Are you prepared for an early death (?).

Interesting read all, i myself had a hard time reconciling the Ten~Heaven Flash so i always attributed it to him having turned his back on heaven in favor of power… knowing that a slight mod to the character yields Early Death in translation, this is more sensible but i still like my story…

i would love to know about this too, it also appears when playing gouken, akuma is the rival and start saying words back and forth, seems epic

Well I just played through arcade mode again a couple of times. First with Akuma, suffering the hideous english voice actor for the sake of hearing the extra dialogue with Ryu. It’s not really anything special - mainly Akuma shouting stuff like “Show me your Hado, boy!” and generally putting Ryu down while encouraging him to unleash the fury, as it were. Ryu basically is just saying how he won’t give in, and all that jazz. Then, when you finish Ryu with a RD Akuma just says “You have a LONG way to go!” and that’s it.

Then I played with Gouken. As a matter of fact, Gouken’s rival match is against Ryu, not Akuma. I haven’t done the actual Gouken vs. Akuma fight in arcade mode outside of using Akuma to unlock Gouken in the first place. Basically during the fight, Gouken says to Ryu “Show me what you’ve learned!” and “Hmm… a bit rusty” or something similar. If you finish Ryu with an Ultra, Gouken says “I have no more to teach you”.

…in case anyone was still curious. I can’t vouch for the accuracy of the English dub compared to the original Jap dialogue, though.

Kakugo means to be prepared or preparedeness. Wa is the particle in Japanese which means to be or is. Yoi means good. Ka denotes a question.

“Kakugo wa yoi ka” just means are you ready. It doesn’t mean “are you ready for death” or “are you ready for glorious death” etc. etc. Just “are you ready”.

Isshun Sengeki means “A thousand attacks in one instant”.

I’m not sure about the four before the demon happens, but I know the last one means sky, or heaven. My roommate’s girlfriend told me haha. Funny story actually, while they were cuddling or whatever they were watching me play SF4, and I landed a raging demon:
GF: ehh… why does that say ‘sky’?
Me: How do you know that?
GF: Uh, I’m asian? Duh.
Me: x_x
