What is the meaning of the 4 symbols

No… the 4 kanji appear AFTER you grab them. It’s too late at that point.

Speaking of which, anyone else think Gouken is a bit of a retcon? I mean, he went from “Very very dead” to “Ooh, that was a nice nap”. Sort of a tangent, given that there’s no philosophy involved, but oh well.

Yes, I do, particularly when the significance of Shun Goku Satsu for Gouki was when he used it to kill his brother.

However, I’ll tie some eastern philosophy into it: Since Gouken now apparently has the ?? (power of nothingness), it could be very well that both happened: that he was indeed killed by his brother, transcended into the higher realm, but for whatever reason, his spirit decided to return to the more worldly realm. You can (if you stretch it) infer this from his opening animation sequence as he seems to magically know that Ken and Ryu’s, “…path is a righteous one.”

…It could also explain why Akuma’s initial attempt at the Shun Goku Satsu in his ending animation is completely ineffective, as the murderous intent may technically not work on someone who is no longer a “mortal” (living or existing on the lower realms of sprituality).

…a super big stretch, I know, but sometimes this is part of the fun: trying to make what seems like a retcon still somehow work with all previous observations still being true.

He’s made light of the situation. He is not angry or spiteful of Akuma’s actions. He exhibits no emotion of it. Rather, it is simply what it is: he was asleep (or a coma or something) and now he’s not.

Thanks Tonren. According to that site the Kanji for destruction in the Buddist term are:

??

Very Interesting.

false. go watch the animation again

Wow this thread really went off on a tangent but keep it up guys this stuff is very interesting.

Well, give us another Gouki question and I’ll/We’ll see what kind of theory we can spin

I think he ties his hair with umbilical cords…

I think you’re thinking of ? from ?? ???.

…Yeah, I would totally yield to Zelikazi when it comes to which kanji is correct.

…yyyyyeeeeeaaaaaah. This would be very interesting if true, but I don’t know if there were any Japanese Oni or specific examples of this particular kind of “practice.”

Does sort of remind me of Kali, thought I’m not sure why.

I just made it up thinking about his stereotypical brutality.

And here I thought he said DIE ONE THOUSAND DEATHS and thus the meaning of the YOURE FUCKED animation that I LOVE to see during a match…unless Im playing Akuma.

Hes just so badass.

what the hell does akuma say before he starts teleporting for the ultra? in english version its ‘prepare yourself’

but what is he saying in the jap version? it sounds like (dont kill me) “tachi moi oika” even tho that doesnt mean shit in jap. someone know/?

this is wat he says right before he goes flying accross the screen. or at least that is wat it sounds like to me. if u want the enlish its “die one thousand deaths”

and my thoughts about akuma/gouki and gouken.
i was thinking that maybe they are like equal but opposing forces. yin and yang kind of thing. u cant have one without the other, hence why gouken has come back in this game. kind of like, bad example i know but, neo and agent smith in the matrix, neo has to die so agent smith will die.
idk, i have only played alpha 3 besides this so i only know the story a bit, but thats what i think it is, just yin and yang. but the gouken being like a transcended spirit or something like that makes a lot of since as well.
or, just thought of this but, buddha, basically one who has transcended normal humanity, gouken has become so good that he has transcended humanity to a point where he is a buddha.
idk, lol, just me throwing my thoughts out there

are you devoid of ears?

its what he says once he grabs them. he says one syllable per kanji it goes

IS SHUN SEN GEKI

close enough.

it sounds like

tachi mo something… but that doesnt make sense either

What he says while he’s charging up for the RD, before he glides across the screen? I believe it’s “Kakugo wa you i ka” which translates loosely to something like “Are you prepared for an early death?” (the “ka” makes it a question, and the “i”, which I’m not at all sure about, could make it more like “Prepared for a glorious death?”). Akuma has kind of weird, anachronistic speech patterns in Japanese so it’s sort of hard to tell exactly what he means from how he’s phrasing things to the ears of someone who only knows some modern, conversational speech.

What I really want to know is what he’s saying when you finish Ryu with a RD during the “Rival” match in Arcade mode. The voice samples are completely different and I don’t know the language well enough to understand what’s going on. Then there’s the whole conversation they have during the course of the bout. I suppose I should just play through it again in English to find out what vague translation Capcom have used.

so based on the few previous posts, its like this?

Performing Ultra: Kakugo wa you i ka

When he actually grabs you: is shun sen geki

Result: you’re on the floor crippled looking up at his back with his “ten” symbol

is that how it goes?

i would love to know about this too, it also appears when playing gouken, akuma is the rival and start saying words back and forth, seems epic
