Street Fighter III: Third Strike is the correct answer. If it had hop/hyper hop/run/more methods of movement it would be the best fighting game ever.
Only statistics I heard (correctly) about Japanese arcades is that some of the most popular games are still VF5, KOF2002UM/98UM. I always heard SF4 isn’t as big/major deal?
EDIT: If we’re all gonna rank SF games
3S
HDR/ST (I know they have differences but right now I’m just putting them together)
Alpha 3
SFIV
Capcom fighters:
3S
CVS2
MSHvsSF
CvS2 > SF2
SF3S.
I played SF2 and most of the other SF’s, but 3 felt like it had the best fighting system. Plus, SF3S had more interesting characters than the others, and some kick-ass music.
Sorry for double posting guys, I have a bad memory. A very bad memory.
HD Remix.
I’m hoping that Super Street Fighter 4 will be my answer in about half a year.
Dr. B’s favorite Street Fighter game? The sidewalk in front of his house. The final boss? Dr. B.
Hands down to me it’s 3s baby.
As deviljin used to say it’s all about the THREESSSSZZZZZZZZZZ:rofl:

Third Strike.
I couldn’t compare different series because they all have great things going for them. Ultimately, the last installment for each one was the best:
ST
A3
3S
CvS2
The only game that sucked was CFE. That game is straight butt.
As opposed to… gay butt? :wonder:
I’m definitely on the side of Hyper Fighting.
A lot of the characters just felt more “complete” in that game than in others. Especially Blanka, it’s staggering how much deeper & more fun he is in HF than in any other game (while also being really good). Other HF characters that stand out to me:
Gief (gdlk kick lariat + T.Hawk corner tick throw loop, yet still not broken at all)
Balrog (TAP through fireballs into a possible 100% combo, no headbutt or super to spam)
Honda (basically ST O.Honda but better, no sitting on stored ochio the whole match)
Chun (fireball & air SBK are dope, and again she doesn’t need to abuse a dumb super)
Ryu (ST Ryu has more cool shit on offense, but HF is what shotos SHOULD be…fireball traps & footsies all the way)
Ken (the ST Bison scare factor in a more well-rounded character)
HF also has the least dumb version of Vega, although HDR would probably be most “complete” and I just hate that character in SF2 period. Guile I dunno about, I like ST Guile actually but HF is a step above CE at least. Sagat is pretty boring & one-dimensional throughout SF2, not a huge difference from game to game - I think HDR is the most interesting & best balanced version of him. Only HF characters I’m really down on are Sim & Bison - Sim is a bit too gimped, and Bison is way too gimped.
In general, I like the fact that not everyone has a reversal in HF, and I like the lack of supers - they tended to be a bit too good in ST. I’m also a fan of the higher chance of dizzies compared to ST, as that happens to balance out fireballs pretty well.
Just my random .02. =)
Please explain if you can spare the time! More detaaail. Squeeze for brain juice.
I’m super interested because love ST Blanka to bits but I’m very unfamiliar with competitive HF as a whole.

Pffft. I still play CvS2. My PS2 is on right now.
QFT!
The only thing I would say is that not only did I not like the supers in ST, but also didn’t like the “tech out of throws” gig. That removed alot of factors that people simply seem to deny. For example, in a game like Hyper Fighting, when I played Ryu, I used throws not just as a form of ticks, or what not, however also as a form for strategical positioning. Like if I was near one side of the corner, got a throw in and threw my opponent to the corner, this gives me the initiative and the advantage, because now they are pinned and I can barrage them at will. I hated it that in St, if I throw you, 90% of the time, they’d tech, and I wouldn’t really gain a real positioning factor at all.
On another note, I do however disagree on a few notes.
I feel this version of Sagat was the best version, even more so then HD:Remix Sagat. 11-41 Tiger shots in Hyper Fighting were absolutely perfect, this still gave him strong zoning, just not too good zoning. His hitboxes weren’t made ridiculously huge like they are in HD:Remix either, and I like the way the Tiger Knee worked in HF as well, much better imo.
Lastly I disagree on the dizzy notion because when you play Hyper Fighting at it’s true pure core, dizzies become extremely rare. Simply because the footsies, zoning, spacing and the fighting for position is so dominant that you really can’t land those “big hits” or “big combos”. That’s why to me, Hyper Fighting will always be the True #1 SF game of all time, no universal bullshit gimmicks, no supers, just true character individualism vs true character individualism.
What tools are given to your characters is what strategies you will develop and use to defeat your opponents. Hyper Fighting is where it’s at.
