What is the greatest SF game of all time

I haven’t touched the EX Series, or the Movie, or 2010 (that game was supposed be be canon, then it wasn’t).

But I grew up with Super Street Fighter II when I was young and played that non stop. Alpha 2 came out and I a year or two after that got back into SF for a short stint again.

But out of all, Alpha 2 beats out SSFII despite the fond memories I have of both. Why A2 over SSFII? The characters and how different it was to just SSFII. It was new and fresh, and kinda pushed SF in the direction that it is today (in terms or the characters and the anime, etc). Alpha 3 is also on my top list. The only gripes I had of the Alphas was the infinite combos.

I’d put money any decent 3s player would destroy you at any street fighter game.

oh… and 3s is the best in my eyes, but Japanese ST is just… simply amazing. Those guys are unbelievable.

i like street fighter 4 the best because its my first serious fighting game. but as far as greatest goes i’m going to go with ST. never really played HF but would like to but i can never find anyone on it on GGPO.

mmmm IMO thats a bad equation I think. here the best 3S players cant beat me at St - A2 - SF 4. And Im talking about VERY good 3S players.

While they can win against me in 3S like 36 > 7 I won on ST - A2 - SF 4 like 40 > 11. Its a very different engine and maybe cause SF4 has more footsies i feel more comfy than them.

I think 3S would’ve been a lot more popular if they didn’t have the stupid decision to just rip out all the characters we’ve grown to love from the series and replace them with new ones. How on earth could Capcom have thought that was a good decision? There’s nothing wrong with adding new characters to the series, but just dumping all the original characters was a bad move, imo.

3S is not only the greatest SF game of all time, but the best fighting game of all time IMO. The engine, combos, parries, steep learning curve, characters, etc. Everything just felt right to me in 3S and I also believe it is far more of an underdog than it should be.

characters don’t make a good fighting game but rather engine mechanics. Who gives a fuck what characters are in the game as long as it plays like a great fighting game.

I have the rom for HF and I’ve only played it like 3 times on ggpo. NO ONE plays on there.

IMO, this was a good decision on Capcom’s part.

I mean, do we REALLY need another game where over half the cast is comprised of old characters that we’ve been playing since WW and A2. No.

3S’ roster was new, fresh, and long overdue.

Fuck popularity. Being a good game is more important.
