Oh what the hell, I’ll say SFIV. I’ll even explain why.
My local arcade scene is dead, and I had almost totally given up on fighting games. Then when SFIV came out, all my friends got really into it. We’re visiting this site, really trying to step our game up, playing online a LOT (for better or for worse), and looking forward to getting destroyed in tournaments! :bgrin:
But best of all? We started playing 3S, ST, HDR… all the SFs really.
It’s like saying mj is your favorite drug, because it’s the gateway drug, and SFIV is the gateway fighting game :smokin:
Well I can agree on that statement. I remember back in 2001 when SFA3 was the sh*t on SRK. Now 90% of SRK throws it in the gutter like SF3. If you were in the arcades playing with those games you can’t help but to remember how good they were and how fun they were to play.
Now people just look at the fact that v-combos are devastating and Chun,Ken and Yun run SF3. So they label those games as terrible. Yet V-Combos are extremely hard to do and if you drop em the person has a chance to retaliate. Plus I felt V-Ism gave a chance for lower tier characters to be fully tournament worthy. 3rd strike had a player this year decimate peeps at SBO with Q. Also some of my most favorite matches come from SFA3 like Valle vs BAS @ evo. The footsies in that match were something to behold.
EDIT: My bad, I remember SF3 was even shunned in the states in it’s early life over SFA3. But in Toronto, Canada that wasn’t the case. SF3 was adored here.

that q player is kuroda…i’m pretty sure. also, i watched some vids of dagger_g’s remy and an amazing hugo player and well, I like 3s a lot more now than when i believed chun, ken, yun are all 3S has to offer. but i’ve never played it so i can’t say much else.
Street Fighter II was the one me and my brother grew to love at the arcades,right before it came out for the SNES.Some how we managed to get it for a die-hard gamer price of $69.99 +tax.I think I played that game day and night for weeks(good times:).
True enough, his arguements were pretty good though so it’s only natural people are still high on that video series.

hf was awesome but so were champ and ww when they were first released…
never liked st much… only played cause its the only old school game that anyone plays.
loved a2 were it not for valle cc (probably my favorite were it not for customs) a3 was great except for customs.
sf3 was crap all around…
people walk too fucking slow in 4… if the walk speed were increased in 4 and crouch teching were taken out, plus not being able to dp out of pefectly timed pokestrings…
sf4 imho would easily be the best…
oh yeah, people shouldnt be able to focus then backdash if they didnt absorb anything or at least let the attack out… no more showing focus for free…

5 Star deserves the credit for holding down SF3 at Denjin more than anyone. He’s the heart and soul of that game.
But yeah, I think the problem with writing off games like Alpha 3 and 3s as unbalanced has been that people look too much towards American play in those games, where people are much less willing to dedicate themselves to the lower tier characters.
It’s really sad to me when any quality fighing game is tossed aside so readily when new games come out, whether its 3s, Alpha 3, CvS2, HF, or whatever else. No love for the game :sad:

Oh I agree. I don’t doubt there are people on this site that still hold HF as the best, and I know players personally who think that, but it bothers me when people just bullshit to look like more of a vet than they are. If the only SF you’ve ever played half competitively is 4, how could you say any other game is a better version of SF without really understanding the game yourself?
I’m going to go with ST or Hyper Fighting.

3rd Strike by a long, long way. It is the pinnacle of Vs. fighting games.
SFIV is the worst SF.

There’s always been a HF/ST split in this kind of thread.
Alpha 2 for me, even though I’m not a fan of the valle custom combo. Every game I love has some glitch (CvS 2 and Roll canceling). I would say Alpha 3, but the V-ism and some of those infinites are just god awful.
So for me, Alpha 2> HDR> SF4>SF3ts.
SF4 is a pretty awesome game. People just hate it because that’s just what’s in right now. But in all honesty SF4 is one spectacular game.
But for me, ST is the best game of all time. And HDR is even better than ST. Then it’s probably SF4, then SFA3 in 2nd and 3rd.
