Alpha 3 seems like professional MUGEN to me.

I like SF3 2nd Impact. The way the announcer says Knock Out from a super move is cool and better soundtrack than 3rd Strike.
I have a soft spot for Alpha 2 myself if you discount the whole CC thing. I also like the original SF2 WW but for the life of me hated SSF2 in all incarnations. Hated Alpha 3 as well for some reason. It played oddly compared to Alpha 1 and 2 but I just can’t quite tell you how.

Street Fighter lll 3rd strike. Best SF game ever IMO. I use Dudley all the time. Nice change of pace with adding a lot of good solid new characters while keeping some of the main ones. Great soundtrack and graphics. All around solid fighter which IMO is very under rated.
It’s the typical “I like but don’t support” crowd. VS has them and so does Garou.
SF2: ST is the clear favorite. Hyper Fighting is worth mentioning.
SFA: A2 and A3 are both loved and hated, Z3’s competitive play outlast Z2 though.
SFIII: Same as SFZ. 2i and 3S are the best of the series. Both loved and hated equally. But 3S’ tourney scene has vastly outlasted 2i’s. Likely due to the all changes in the Parry system.
This is a pretty stupid thread in general though.

ST outdoes it though. For all the crap that old sagat gets, looking at the evo results there is no other game with such a wide variety of characters that win the tournament. You’ve got Ryu, Rog, Vega, old.Sagat, Chun, Dhalsim and others that I’m probably forgetting. Not to mention other characters also end up taking top places. Unlike 3s where one year the top 6 spots were all taken by yun…

Thats why I liked it. Its fun. I’ve never cared for balance except in…yep, Marvel vs. Capcom 2.
i like 3s becuase you can pick ANY!!! of the characters and if u just know the deepness of the ~~mindgames~~ u can truly win the game
What is with so many people thinking the first iteration of SF4 should have been so superior to the third iteration of SF3, or the second+ iteration of any SF game?
New Generation was one of the worst SF games ever created, possibly the worst.
It’s tied with Super Street Fighter.
Be grateful SF4 is as good as it is, it could have been like WW, A1 or NG.

Devil’s Advocate: You’re right that if it were honestly judged the same as the first of any given fighter series haters would have no room to speak, but being that the company’s been putting fighters out there for as long as the genre’s been relevant, it’s not unreasonable to hold them to a higher standard than, what was it, “missing frames” or whatever the bullshit with WW was?
Fighting gamers (notwithstanding competitive gamers and gamers in general) are just more demanding now that there’s established ground. Given it’s the big name in fighters being talked about here but not even SFIV would have held the attention it has as a competitive game if it were that kind of nonsensical garbage. Take Blazblue, it’s also a much more fair first try than beginning entries in many older fighting series from a fairly experienced developer but it gets slammed too, and if it were any worse it wouldn’t even get what attenion it has now being that it’s a new brand.
Yeah FG hate is annoying and circular and shitty but the fact that on some level it implies raised standards, at least among those who come to know better, means it’s good for something even considering petty and dorky crossfire.
