I’ll probably get lots of hate for this but it’s pretty funny how people are already calling SF4 one of the best SF games of all time and it has been out on console for less than a year.

Alpha 3 is more fun than Alpha 2 in casual play to me (with all the crazy combos and extra characters like Cody and Karin), but Alpha 2 is more fun and exciting at high level play because overall it’s more balanced and grounded IMO.

they arent anime games in the first place, anime games are the likes of naruto, bleach, and dbz, also you are really fooling yourself if you belive that sf, is not in an anime style, like if throwing fireballs from your hands wasnt very anime :rolleyes:

I’m going to go ahem * buy it * today. It was really good from what I remember and you made me want to play it again.

I’ve only been able to play a few of the SF games in the entire series AND I played them at different stages of my life with my 2 bros.
Sf2 turbo I got when I was like 6. I grew up on that but it was nothing tournament level (fights consisted of ryu, ken, honda and chun-li because none of us could pull off any other moves. TBH, we’d just spam the special moves that we knew and that was it)
Then on playstation era, we rented SF Alpha 3, which was really fun at the time, mainly because it had a lot more characters and the ones from super turbo. We’d all improved by then and started using normal attacks as well as special and supers.
[We later purchased this game before sf4 came out and I started maining Deejay and Guile. It was improved play from us but not as much as today (though I have to say I loved alpha 3 a lot…good times and lots of fun had on that one)]
Then on ps2, Capcom vs SNK2. Man that game was awesome. I had never played any snk game so always stuck with the sf characters. Didn’t get to play this one as much though since I got it late into the stages of ps2 which soon after decided to mal-freakin-function on me. Then my CvS2 game disappeared off the face of the planet.
A little while later, I managed to play 3rd strike. But was pissed off that Guile wasn’t in it (I didn’t like remi at all, sorry any remi fans but he just wasn’t my cup of tea) so just stuck with ken or akuma (|I had familiarised myself somewhat with him on snk2/alpha 3 by this time). Nothing fancy here in terms of what I could pull off but it was fun. And I loved the animation on it.
Then SF4 was announced and I was pumped. This was when I started getting serious about SF in general, reading up on mindgames, footsies, cancelling - all that technical stuff that I never even knew existed in the previous games.
I got it on release and purchased an SE stick (which I later modded with sanwa FTW!) solely for it: that’s how pumped I was. And it wasn’t a let down at all imo. Granted, there are some things I don’t like (Guile being nerfed, no Deejay, some of the ultras in need of tweeking, online play skanking you every once in a while) but it’s all cool and it’s the only beat-em up I have on ps3 right now.
I liked all the ones I played, but there is a definite soft spot for turbo - I grew up playing that game (for the first few years on snes, we had two games: super mario world and SF2Turbo - two of the best snes games ever made) and even though I was crap at it and it gave me and my bros blisters, I loved it.
I can’t pick a greatest ever, because I did truly love playing all of them. Here’s to Super SF4.
Edit: I did purchase and play hdr, but didn’t like it as much as the other games.
Uhhh, FFIV and Xenogears were both great games.

Its a tie between SF2 and SF4 but im leaning towards SF4 because i simply like the damage output and throw system better.
3s is an excellent game, but once you get to pro levels you realize that its just a chun, yun and maybe ken fest! what i like about SF4 is the balance. take a look at the latest tournament results (seasons beatings 4) we have an excellent mix of characters in the top 10 finalists… Ryu, Rufus, Fei long, Sagat, Balrog, Ken, M. Bison, Akuma, Cammy, Chun-Li, Blanka, C. Viper, Rose, Zangief. this is what i call a balanced fighter! challenged only by the game that started it all… SF2.
