In the style of Jalapno…

My name is Patrick. Most of you probably have only seen me once or twice before EVO. It’s because I just started in the competitive scene here about 2 months ago. I’ve only been to Preppy’s and Deezo’s place twice and to Pablo’s once. (Quick thanks to you guys for being hella nice and hospitable.)

While I have come out to a couple of events and even hosted my own, I didn’t quite feel like part of the team. A lot of you have been very welcoming but it still didn’t seem to fully click…until EVO. We really had a great bond and stuck together. Knowing that people can both cheer and heckle you (shiet is even worse on the big screen, ya know?) made me even more pumped. Cause even though Yipes is a dick for talkin’ shiet during my match, it made me want to do the opposite for everyone on our team. Granted I was a little more respectful, but I felt really good whenever we call out “good shiet! or nice break!” as I’m sure we all wanted/needed the support of our peers.

Things to note, lessons etc. I was going to write an article or somethin so that we can post it on Seattle Versus, maybe I still will. But I forgot that my writing process takes a long ass time and I’m very critical of my own writing…so here is some of the stuff I remember.

Jared aka JalapNo holding it down for me during my first match vs Jibbo. Sorry I couldn’t put that NW flash on for everyone being the second guy on the first day on that big screen. But knowing that you were cheering and had my back meant a lot. EDIT: OH YEA, don’t forget the Jalapno and Emperor Pat remix of Sandstorm via BEATBOX. That was hot yo!

Watching Trace smash on some FOB ass dude dressed in some crazy overseas style WHILE Pablo was on the big screen. It was tight but kinda confusing when I was calling out good shiet for one match and looking to see the other made a move that you wouldn’t call out for. But I repped for Trace after a huge punish to finish the round with “YEAAAA GET THAT WEAK ASS WATER SHIET OUTTA HERE!!!”

Rollin’ with Josh and Fae, helping out when these nerdy ass pervs kept asking (and some cases, NOT asking) for pictures of C.Viper. BE RESPECTFUL DAMMIT. Some of these doods weren’t even friendly and were hella awkward but I guess they can’t help it.

I spent a lot of time clownin, cuz shiet, I’m never gonna see these random ass fools (that weren’t there for EVO) ever again. For a group of good looking girls I would say “HEY LADIES, STREET FIGHTER 4!”. If they were HELLA old, I would say “HEY LADIES, uhhh STREET FIGHTER 2!” - This got on Nolan’s nerves.

Chugging our beers outside Fatburger and the Fatburger employee smoking a cigarette on break watched us. Then told us it was alright to bring our beers inside. LOL

Frank and Superjoe talking shiet to each other. I don’t know what else to say besides it was hella funny. Then when Thad would try to chime in, both of them would say “SHUT THE FUCK UP THAD”. HAHAHAHAHAHAH

Raise the roofus/rufus…is hella lame.

Clownin’ with Mickey D on the guy that laid out like a carpet trying to hold spots like a bitch for his lame ass friends. I forgot some of the shiet me and Mickey were saying (most of it was in front of him to so you know he heard it, all of it was HELLA funny) but when his friends finally arrived, guess who they were? Those bitch-ass JDRs trying to talk back and clown when it was Trace vs. Daigo. Most of you were there for that. I don’t think we have to recap how sweet that was.

Deezo clowning on HDR.

Clowning on Triforce all weekend. And oh, NOT showing him the flash…as I covered it while taking a picture of him for all to see. (Check Josh’s pictures if you want to see it.) I’m gonna love saying all of the new quotes of his that we heard.

Almost drinking with Daigo & Kuni (getting blocked by those East Coast doods) turned into one of the funnest (I know that’s not a word, bitch) nights I ever had…to leave early. King’s cup is always a good time. It’s just a real damn shame I had an early flight. Trace saying “fuck” and pointing all the time for the loss. Josh and Kyle with their baiting. Thad getting so wasted we had to take him out of the game. “Four is for …aww that’s fucked up. Four is for Fae”

Theres TONS more. Maybe I’ll add an edit or maybe some of you can post up and help me remember.

EY!

What I learned most at EVO2K9: LTB vs. Lamp is always an epic matchup.

What I learned at EVO

I don’t need my mega super lens with the way the stage was set up

I’m never getting an offsite room away from the hotel

ScrubbyDan, Paul and everyone have great taste in food.

Justin Wong, Valle, Choi and all them are really cool guys.

I hate living in Salem.

I need to go back next year and am already starting the savings fund just in case I don’t have a job to make the money.

I have close to 21 hours of footage and over 8 thousand pictures to go through. I couldn’t make it over 9000…sorry ya’ll.

I don’t really remember what anyone from Team NW looks like since I didn’t hang out with ya’ll enough.

I feel like a fuckin retard for not throwing out one single low short through my two pool matches.

I need more money and to stay in Vegas longer to hang out with everyone.

So Mor recorded all of my matches but 1 so I really had time to sit and analyze myself after evo. I really see where I let my nerves get the best of me and where I just got too greedy. Anyways here are the videos give me input help me level up. :china:

Emmanuel- you execution is improving a ton.

What I learned from not going to evo - I should have, and will for sure next year.

(Also Frank that Jinrai’s seth is awesome I played a first to 20 matches and he got 11 on me, I got 9 because demon shenanigans against seth are instant kills)

eman i have bad nerves too which is why i think i do poorly in tourneys but a lot better during casuals. thats why when you see me im uuuuuuuusually pretty trashed cuz i wont give a damn and ill just be nasty. works for every game besides sf4 so far but im improving my inebriated gameplay. whatever you can do to relax and calm the nerves id say try it before the next tourney and see how you do.

wish i got to go to evo this year…

some things I learned:

-There are some girls out there who are actually legit marvel players.
-Sometimes falling asleep costs you $100.
-Even if you are playing well, sometimes the marvel gods just get angry for no reason and strike your ass down.
-The camera really does add 10lbs.
-Apparently a pack of gum, a bottle of water, and an apple comes out to costing $10.
-I don’t know how to fight Abel.

This.

This is the mentality that the big names had when they weren’t big names. Always looking back to improve on their game, listen I’m saying it now. Watch out for Eman, I hope you don’t give this game up anytime soon my dude. Because you and all the rest of the fresh faces have just sprouted, and I know that I’m excited to see just how beastly all of you will become by the time next EVO comes around. Listen not to put you on the spot or nothing but Mandel and I were talking at the airport at how much talent you really have at this game. I mean it’s almost getting down to where I feel I need to talk to *** you *** for some input and advice on my Bison game…just make sure next year you stay and roll with the Northbest =D.

Also a monstrous shout out to the SFIV kids that didn’t go to evo, it seems like you guys have leveled up soooo much too since I last seen ya (hyre definately comes to mind). Everyone keep it up. NWM’s and I’m pretty positive when Cole gets back into town he’ll have some great words of wisdom as well as what the future plans for Seattle and Northwest in general.

Some of my thoughts about evo this year:

  • I think I have only missed one Evo since 2003, but I have to say this was definitely one of the best so far! Having so many NW people there made this an awesome experience.
  • I need to always “warm up my Chang”
  • I made a fan in Vegas, this guy was helping run the brackets, was hella hyped everytime I played in pools lol.
  • It was great seeing everyone, I apologize if it seemed like I wasn’t kickin it more. Have to realize I was with 4 people who weren’t a part of Evo this year. Vegas was still hella fun though!!
  • I learned a ton about SF4, and there are some big things I think I can incorporate in my game. We’ll see…
  • Wish I saw more Blankas, doing well was not my main goal, showing everyone that Blanka is tight was!
  • I lost to Evil Rashaan, a Dhalsim… WTF! Seriously!? It should of been me against Ed Ma on the big screen, lol.
  • Thanks to Row for supporting us at home, and texting me after my 5v5 match. “Cmon!! That’s Sagat you should of raped him! Nerves!!”
  • I’m proud of everyone, and how the NW was repped. Sorry, I really wish I could have done more for us.

My favorite part of Evo-in-the-ballroom was cheering on the 5 on 5 team. Hopefully they have something like that again next year.

I was mad that I played so well the night before in James’s room (btw big ups to you homie for letting us get in there and play). Then just let it dwindle down to nothingness in pools, I wanted to show ppl what was up with Bison…unfortunately I failed =[. I think next evo I will be flying in two days early…first day get smashed, second day smash on ppl in casuals/money matches and just practice and polish up for the big dance.

But be on the look out folks, Bison’s looking for a sidekick…tryout’s are going on at Tournament Wars headquarters as we speak.

it might be better to not practice while there

To my boy scorpion baghdad: I like watching your matches because you have a good habit of making things work when it looks like they definately shouldn’t have. You are in the game breaking skulls and that shit will wreck a dudes mind and get him worried on how to react. I’m liking the clutch ultras, we don’t mess around with that shit. You are looking like you have a good knowledge of your character.

With that said, I think you need to block more, and learn to be cautious. I see you getting hit with some stuff that wouldn’t of happened if you had blocked a bit better. You have a good rushdown style. Work on the Cautious side of bison, make sure to think about what your opponent can and can’t do matchup-wise. It’s good to test your opponent, but when you get to high-level play there will be a point where you can’t expect anything but very strong play from your opponents so don’t underestimate them. Overall good shit my dude, your bison is very unique and I look forward to watching you wreck some more faces

I just learned that it’s not worth smoking the dirt ass weed down there. I have acute bronchitis now. :wasted:

When I found the recorded stream, I saw one of the tags as FLOWCHART KEN and I was like “FUUUUUU that must be me”. To my surprise, it was not.

What else did I learn? I re watched my big screen/streamed match.

http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/1823112/highlight/9536

http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/1823112 and click on the tag GEN@EVO if you want the full section and short Jibbo interview afterwards.

They were pretty respectful. Anyone who was on the stage knows that you couldn’t hear the commentary. But they were pretty spot on. I didn’t even notice (they did) that I was playing defensively…against “the nation’s best Gen” (which I wouldn’t doubt). I mostly did this because…I didn’t know the match up. I didn’t know shiet about Gen. They also added “executing combos in tournament matches (because of nerves and such) are extremely hard” which for me was 100% true. You can even hear the crowd and when I was sitting down, it was like they were right behind me yelling in my ear…and getting in my head.

But another thing I learned? Watching after the match (you’ll have to click on “see the original Full Video” on the upper right-hand corner) when they interviewed Jibbo, Jibbo’s hands were shaking. HE was nervous. Being on the big stage and wanting to do your best. Yea, HE was nervous. Someone lauded as the “nation’s best Gen” was nervous against me. But in the end he did what he’s always done and what I need more experience in doing. Playing in tournaments and focusing on what’s at hand. Concentrating on the game and beating your opponent.

Did I get scraped? Yea you bet. But in defeat you can learn valuable lessons. This only makes me more hungry to train and level up.

Oh, and can you see my facial expressions? It pretty much tells everything. Oh, and if I told you I did more damage in the last game (FTL) it was actually the first round and not the second. Well, either one is comparable as almost each round I got him to 50% life. That was around the time I finally got a hold of myself and was able t concentrate. Too bad I didn’t have an answer to him and lost the match.

your bad

Yeah dude…i hit an empire joint with some schwag in it…not sure if that was east coast or vegas but it sure as hell was not my turkey n gravy. >:[
