What have you done for the fighting game community?

This guy was looking for challengers once at this Aladdin’s Castle I went to years ago, apparently all the characters got deleted off marvel or something…so it was mainly just low tier scrubs getting they’re time in before fucking sent/mag/whatever unlocked to attract the higher tiers.

But this guy was different, low tier play for the most part…but he kept winning. I walked in and the manager had given him a stool because of the victories. I tried to stop him…but ended up losing pretty badly. He said he was getting the characters back or somethin’ - so I guess my loss added to his win stock, thus more characters, thus happier arcade.

I’m a cheerleader for top players.

I’m the one who went down on all the Capcom executives in exchange for making SF4.
You fuckers owe me.

i play

I love you, too. <3

I’ve also helped out with donating equipment to players for tournies and whatnot and have also invested in a $200 stick for a friend of mines so he could play.

Tell me about it!

  1. Been playing SF since I was 8 years old.
  2. Ran monthly tournaments at Gametime in Alexandria, VA from 2001-2002 with Sparatik… even though I lived 2 hours away.
  3. Played at the VCU arcade, and even payed for people’s games and taught many people CvS2. Eventually, had one student who overcame the master, Moosehummel.
  4. Founded the Video Game club of VCU in 2004, which grew to over 80 members. Not a high percentage of Capcom gamers, but a good smattering of 2d/3d/smash and old school games. Sadly, the Video Game club did not survive my departure.
  5. Ran a major tournament, the 2005 Mid Atlantic Video Game Championships. 11 games and Over 300 entries.
  6. In 2006, took over running C3 Cyberclub monthlies in Northern Virginia (still 2 hours away), and saved the area from sheisty Jinmaster and JC media tourneys. The C3 monthlies went from having basically NO entrants to being the first consistent tournaments in the DC area since Gametime closed. Also, did a lot of work to bring together the Smash and Fighting Game communities. The tourneys have survived my departure, thanks to Havoc and Ramza and the strong local smash community.
  7. Pretty much every tournament I go to, regardless if I hosted it, I somehow wind up with brackets in my hands, calling matches or running a tournament… it’s just what I do.
  8. Wrote an Iori faq on Gamefaqs way before Buktooth’s faq completely destroyed me and caused me to take it down. Also, the A3 Chun Li section on the SRK wiki is all mine.
  9. If SF4 comes out in arcades before console, I plan on buying a cabinet for everyone to play on in my area.
  10. I serve as a vital “scrub measuring stick”. If you can’t beat me, you’re a scrub. If you can… you actually may be pretty decent at the game… keep practicing!

So… yeah. I’ve done alot. I bow before the Cannons (obviously), and give HUGE props to ShinBlanka, Zeruel, JetPhi, DreamTR, Eric from Philly, and anyone else in this country who thought “hey, I should run a tournament!” It’s hard, it’s thankless, and it’s done purely for the love of the game.

When I come back from Iraq, I will pick up the brackets again. That’s a guarantee.

I parry.

i participated in the local cvs2 tourneys back in the day in Portland Oregon LLoyd center mall TILT!!!:china:

Me and my friends provide reviews for obscure fighting games for the enjoyment of the community…does that count?

I jump back fireball.

don’t forget the wake up spinning kick.

when in doubt, rh spinning kick out.

There’s a gaming room at my workplace, so I just installed MAME on every single computer and OCed the USBs and got a bunch of people into 3s and kof '02, but I think that’s about it, I’ve been trying to get them into Guilty Gear but they don’t like it that much, I think most of them are playing sf and kof out of nostalgia more than anything else.

I am a shining example of scrubbyness, for those of you who would like to know what to avoid doing.

The best line of the thread…

This kinda sounds like an ego stroking thread tbh

I must drink Renegade to stand a chance.

Sorry, Miss Jackson(Bear was for real), but Ramza already summed up what I’d say: Participation and coming out to events to support the scene itself, such as local tournies and/or the big ones(FR, Ts, EVO). You won’t get bonus points, from anybody, for going all out outside of that.

You know. I agree… but to some extent I feel it’s a little deserved. Almost no one outside of East Coast knows who I am, even though I’ve done all this shit.

It’s like you HAVE to be extremely good and win tournaments in order to get any kind of recognition in this community. There’s not really alot of props given to the guys who make it happen.

That is all.

I make it easy for everyone to get along because this vid is a great ice breaker http://youtube.com/watch?v=o2CMswYbN8A

Who can’t be friends and promote games after that?

Whatever happened to Moose?? He was a really really good player, and i have no doubt that if he was still playing he would def be like top 5 on the EC. I met him once at ECC 3 or 4 yrs ago, definitely chill guy.
