Only thing of significance that I’ve done is buy almost every fighting game that I could. SF:AC, MVC2, CVS2, Soul Calibur 3, Tekken 5, KOFXI, SFAA, GG:AC, MOTW, etc. Whenever anyone is down for any fighting games chances are I’ll have want they want.
Other than that I’m trying to throw another local tourney at one of the last comic shops left in Miami. The manager likes the idea but the last time there was a tournament someone broke a display case. Hopefully we’ll be able to get a steady stream of people on sundays.
In all seriousness though. What I did for our (small) community, I tried to get as many people to show up to my house as possible for gaming. (which actually turned out pretty good usually 8-14 people each showing)
I tried sitting down with everyone individually and teaching them said game and breaking it down for them step by step and technique by technique.
Use to film helluh matches (some of them are on youtube and filefront actually, they’re helluh old though so don’t watch. lol)
And when I move back to Washington I’ll be going to preppies to play games plus when I’m not there I’ll probably be building the scene around where I’ll be living as much as possible and try to record some of it.
well, its hard having to work a lot on the weekends, but when i can go out
i basically play a bunch of different games, so I guess i “try” to push each scene in houston a bit (cept marvel).
Guilty Gear basically being my favorite game, ive gotten a bunch of people into the game, so even if my skills still suck from lack of getting to play people, im glad with what i can do, ive impressed enough to the point that the people will play.
I manage to get people on the machine too, because they see how much fun i had (am having) they want to get in on some of it
for the internetz ppl, not much.
but for the local community…
being one of the best overall FG players in my country, showing up for every event, pushing for tournaments, pushing for changing tournament rules so they won’t suck, spreading the knowledge, helping the noobs, getting people to know and try other games that aren’t called tekken, organizing a group sale of hori arcade sticks.
thing i will do soon-opening a local FG website, making a series of guilty gear video tutorials a-la sirlin ccc2 , becoming an “expert FG reporter” for the biggest gaming site in the country, and still looking for more ideas for developing the scene.
