What have you discovered with Gouken in AE?

heres my take …i wholeheardtedly agree the better opponents are the less mistakes they make , therefore the less usefull those high damage ex palm fadc fadc palm fadc combos are in real matches! save them bars for your get out of wakeup pressure free card- the ex flip or some other shit! until then crossup mk and …sweep rinse repeat! i wont go much deeper here since i reserve the rest for dojo sessions , you know me…

Now mind you i have recently added nothing but Twinz friends to my list because we all need maximum exposure to their new styles , shit was mad frustrating up until about a day or two ago. Since we havent played any yun or Yangs in previous versions this is our most formiddable matchup so far.

Regarding Yun when hes within sweep range look for the following:

a nj means usually empty and he’s fishing for an opening and or bait, as you expect his mixup pressure- use lpalm to give him his bait but mash kongo right after. if hes below shoulder height mid kongo, if hes above shoulders at that time hp kongo

a diag jump @ us means one of three things, the least threatening being the empty crossup where they land on the other side and try their dumb bs all over again a nice hp kongo keeps us safe here or as they go overhead follow them with a j.mp or jmp>tatsue. The two frontside dive kicks can be either meaty or the pokey low quick one respond accordingly with ex kongo or mp kongo

i started to play the twins matchup heavy on the kongo treatment since vs dive kicks its only two choices for kongo since lp kongo is useless vs dive kicks, also since we know all they do is poke poke poke with limited recovery , so in those situations its only 2 choices again lp kongo and mp kongo and if they take to the air unless they get above your shoulders you wont need that hp kongo.

Instead of fearing the dive kicks the whole entire match i tend now to worry bout them only within sweep and or poke range, since im more comfortable with this matchup as the days go on.

lol, reipin snapped!
if you’re playing to win evo, don’t pick gouken, man.
unless t-hawk is somehow the meta-game.
one thing that is really cool about characters like gouken is that they are fun to play.
being a gouken player is kind of cool.
of course you get called a scrub a lot, but if you can play it doesn’t matter that much.
honestly, if you are a good player and playing this game for fun, the top tier is usually boring.
there is no sense of satisfaction after a win.
when you win with gouken, you did it on hard mode.
now, before the hardcores jump on my case, please remember the second line of this post!
i assume that most of us play for fun, since that’s why i play, so you should play with the character that is fun for you.
when i first came back to street fighter after playing wow for 5 years, sf4 had been out for a few months or a year or something.
the first character i picked was sagat, because he looks so cool.
but after finding out that everyone hated sagat for being o.p. and hating that damn backflip animation after his tiger uppercut, i started fooling around with gouken because he is the coolest looking motherfucker on the cast.
then when i found out that he gets smashed, i knew i was hooked.
some of us just gravitate to low tiers.
yeah, it’s scrubby, so what?
it’s really fun when a strong player with a top tier gets frustrated by his own lack of knowledge and calls you cheap when you’re using gouken.

Hear hear!

I moved this conversation to the fed up thread, I wrongly posted this here.

i didn’t read every post made so just ignore this if it was already posted:

near corner (as in ex senko puts them in the corner and your’e close enough for the rest):

any move that leads into ex senko followed by HP or MP fireball (depending on height at the time) followed by LP palm, immediately jump into HK axe kick. Someone did this to me 3 times last night, it did massive damage and only cost 1 meter, i’ll get on later and try it in training mode and report back with the damage and stun.

It’s known, but it isn’t really massive damage and it leaves you in the corner with them standing at the same time you land basically. It’s a really bad deal.

Up to the EX palm, if everything else is the same you have a few options:

HP fireball > LP Fireball > c.HK OR st.HP xx Gouken flip throw if you want to be tricky
55dmg --------- 55dmg -------- 100 dmg
HP fireball > LP palm > dj.HK
55 dmg ------- 90 dmg ---- 100dmg

You are basically trading 35 damage (if there wasn’t scaling, and there is) to put yourself in a terrible position.

i usually use the first option you listed, i just never actually saw the one that i listed before till yesterday heh. Maybe it was because i wasn’t expecting the HK but i sure never got back up before he landed (that’s what i’m noticing with that and the HP, if they’re ready for it they recover, if not it’s a “hard” knockdown. I just thought it was cool as i had not seen it

there is a video in the first page of this thread showing his changes and this was in there.

Even on a hard knockdown, I don’t want to be in the corner personally.

I have discovered that Gouken’s counter is too difficult to use in AE

that he sucks

Re-tahhhhhded. Any chance you can post the rest? Look how small the HP one is =\

That he’s the hardest counter (for me) to sim without switching to yun.

wow those green boxes better not be his hitboxes. If it is, its fucking fail by capcom on all sorts of levels on MP kongo.

lol why the hell can i code a proper hitbox on my MUGEN gouken that i made, but CAPCOM can’t do it right in their OWN GAME? Ridiculous -_-

before ae was released, i said that there was no way capcom would nerf kongo.
there wasn’t any point, i said.
i said, "don’t worry!"
lol

Maybe this is old knowledge and certainly isn’t strictly AE but I just wanted to share, if someone is neutral jumping fireballs at teh opposite side of the screen try doing a dash after your fireball and MP palm. It’s won me three matches tonight.

Has anyone been able to get this OS that b-nasty was speaking of. I’ve tried it in the past, but no idea how it works.

B-Nasty where’s the vid?

Yeah, I would like that too.

do we have the rest of those scans, giley?
